Furiosa and the War Rig are chased by the Motorflyers. A motorcycle gang who use parachutes and paragliders to attack from the air while attached to bikes on the ground, they are led by the Octoboss, a bikie leader dressed in a flight suit and with a horned mask who rides a literal flying motorcycle.

The demise of the Octoboss is very fitting. The warlord who modeled himself after a sea creature ends up being harpooned, reeled in and turned into chum.
He is the one who killed Furiosa's mom lmao, I think most people missed that. Dementus' orders, but Octoboss was the torturer who did the deed.
I know. That adds an extra layer of poetic justice to the scene. As the harpoon pulled him into the Bommy Knocker, he could only look on and struggle in terror without being able to do a thing about it.
Never thought about it that way! Awesome!

@@rovinggnome143 The Octopus. Octoboss wears a pitch black diving suit and the horns on his helmet look like tentacles. His personal kite has 8 long strands flowing behind it to make it look like an octopus. A tactic his men utilize is using explosives to blind their target like how an octopus uses ink to blind predators. Plus, his gimmick of flying could be seen as "swimming through the air"
I love the Octoboss introduction here because the camera doesn't even focus or pan to the ominous kite in the background for several shots until he's right there.
Hard agree, I remember watching it and seeing the kite thinking, the hell is that thing. Terrifying moment as it was closer every cutaway. Noticed it floating around Dementus' camp during the opening after my second watch too.
It felt like something out of a fantasy movie for a brief moment like a giant octopus monster attacking the war rig. Some fantasmagoric vision that myths are made of.

That was excellent cinematography but I think they could've made its "reveal" a little more impactful. Like Jack just looks at it for a few seconds before Octoboss starts shooting and hovering in the exact same position.
When that dude hopped on his skates, tethered to the back of the bike at like 25mph, and then deployed a parachute to elevate, I literally was laughing out loud in the theater. Only George Miller could conceive something like this and that's why he's my favorite post-apocalyptic director bar none.
Edit: If Furiosa wasn't there, they took the war rig pretty easily. The Mortifiers are badass as all hell and Dementus screwed that up. He could've beaten Immortan Joe with them at his side, I believe.
Up until that point I had my regular Mad Max watching face on, mouth open with glaring eyes, and then when the guy got on the skates and went up with the parachute I just started grinning from ear to ear.
Yeah true, he could have used some arial combat to take some parts of the Citadel. What a goofball. And I agree, that was an awesome moment that really opened up the scene
you know what? yeah they probably could have eventually figured out a way to fly into the citadel now that i think about it

In the theater with the big screen and loud speakers this was such a great sequence and it just kept getting crazier and crazier. A lot has been cut here but at the time I felt like it was one of the best action sequences I’ve seen in a theatre

Ngl the bikers looks sick... Especially that they know that immortan joe's forces lack anti-air weapons & mostly used in fighting other ground vehicles ,so they deploy this parachutes & gliders
Yeah would be a real shame if they just targeted the bikers 5 feet away matching their speed 🙃
@@Leo-qv9bo they don't even have any guns. Only the driver is armed with a pistol & a SKS. .. unlike the bullet farmers warboys that are armed with a lot of rifles

@@Zane-It in Fury road all of the bullet farmers warboys are all armed with automatic rifles with extra ammo pouches.. Immortan Joes warboys are mostly using crossbow, javelins & ballistas as a range weapon
@@khylebaguingan8211 yup because the truck we saw was on a produce run before it fled. I would assume the load outs are different for war such as nux with the sawn off or slit with the tokrev during the chase.
Octoboss is basically an evil version of the gyrocopter guy from Mad Max 2. The actor is similarly tall and has a thin face too, probably not a coincidence.
Australia is a hell of a place

Cos their brains are a black mass rotted away by social media telling them anything remotely different or challenging is woke and should be shunned.
I personally loved the story, but loads of the effects in this movie simply don't look good. I think some of the shots here actually look quite awful.
There's a reason so many are complaining about the "bad cgi" in this film, because it's a genuine critique that affects the overall viewing experience.
to me it's simply because its really hard to top fury road, also i think fury road got much more practical effect, as well as the chase scenes escalation is better... kinda suck they made 40 days war into slides, making this scene as the peak action sequence

The soundtrack of this sequence is impressive. Also, I know people complaint about the film's CGI effects, but I don't think this moment could have been done without them...
I love how Jack's reaction to seeing Furiosa is in fact a girl is just 'huh' before getting back to work killin' guys. That's a man who doesn't waste words.

What I like about this movie is the action sequences appear to be or what looks like it, done in one take. It gives you that immersion and focus with no abrupt cuts. Something like Christoper Nolan's movies, like the Tenet truck scene.

The harpoon didn't actually seem to pierce Octoboss' leg, it looks like it just went through his greave. If he kept his cool and focused on taking it off he probably could've escaped

I feel some of the movie stunts are more cgi heavy by design, his old cinematographer retired and the new one didn't help. Like the hangglider was always going to be cgi it's too dangerous and difficult to film for non cgi effects.

I read that Octoboss' flying bike was supposed to be practical, they even had successful tests with the kite and bike, but Miller opted for CGI. Probably to avoid serious damages.
@@queekheadtaker7327 Have to remember 70% 0f Fury Road was shot in motion with moving vehicles and focused on live action. This was more story based and the cgi somehow fits the story. Probably cheaper to do it cgi then hire a bunch of stunt men. I really don't know what I'm talking about at this point 🙃

Putting horror scoring during Octoboss raid scene is genius, make him more like mythical being, especially when his presence is far away in the background.
Awesome sequence from an awesome movie from an awesome franchise.
Didn't notice in theatres but the Octoboss shooting the war pup, one bullet penetrated the metal top .... :(

My only complain is the background (CGI) seems a bit cartoonish compared to Fury Road..like if it lacks detail .. otherwise its the shit we all love
I'm convinced this whole movie was George Miller's secret plan to make the deleted Harpy ending from the first movie happen. Because the whole movie is awesome bit this sequence is just so freaking cool

The bad guys try (and in this case, succeed) to take over a gas refinery.
The Mortifliers are what you get is the Gyro Captain was a part of Humungus' group.
You even got a guy (cut from this clip) who got set on fire and put it out with a bottle of piss.
Like it seems like all airplane technology was lost between Mad Max 3 and Fury Road and what was left was this I wanted to see more airplanes

The music, or lack there of, really lets this scene down.
This war rig looks so modern
Year because this is its first fight
I believe the Citadel had its best engineers supervise the building of this war rig and provided them with the best gears and technology available. But they couldn't repair it after the war against Dementus. Also, the person I believe was the engineer in chief probably died during the fight against the Octoboss (I think it's the guy who gets partially burnt and has just enough time to give Furiosa a tube before going under the rig). After that, maybe they were out of fine material and went for something practical but crude, like the war rig from Fury Road.
I think it fits one the saga's theme. By the end of Immortan's reign, humanity is slowly decaying: no more shiny vehicles, no more giant robot arms. Human technology can't improve anymore, just loot, hijack, re-use and preserve as much as possible.
Wonder if Death Stranding 2 inspired the Octoboss design at all.

It's just the green screen, it's the obvious mismatch of lighting, a character having their backlit when the sun is right above them. It’s not terrible, it's just obvious

My guess is that the bullet farm makes more than guns/ammo. Probably explosives as well, for those spears

Too much CGI in this movie, it looks like a video game now, like when the flying guys throw their explosive spears at the truck tank, and the war boys just disappear, and they try to mask it with annoying camera angles.

Why guys who write so much about "too much cgi" look so lame? I sincerely feel pity for them. It is like they have never seen behind the scenes of fury road, never watched it on small screen to see all cgi components in full, never thought of why sands have so bright colors like the skin of a deathly snake...

For defense, Octoboss kept intercepting the smaller rigs, so this newly built one was made with every sort of defense in mind.
As you see in the film, they're used to get in the way of bikers, to pick them up, and to even intercept one of the mortiflyers.

But also if the rig gets stuck, the excavator can help get it out of the way

I don't think the movie makers understand how paragliders work. The fastest can go 40 mph, and in no way can they strafe like seen here.

Yeah that's a bit of a problem in this movie. I think it's a great film over all but the effects can be so bad at times that it took me out of the movie completely
Right. In Fury Road it was better due to practical effects, but they couldn’t secure enough money for practical effects this time. Because fury road didn’t make a lot of money for investors

The physics of this scene are completely unreal. There's no way any of these thrown objects would move in completely straight lines at that speed. This was a poor attempt to replicate the glory of Fury Road.
