If what I’ve read is true the original script for Doomsday (back when it was assumed MMPR would only be a single season). Would’ve had the Rangers sealing away Rita, reveal Ernie had been a human disguise for Zordon the whole time, and would’ve shown Kimberly going to the dance with Tommy
The dance would’ve also been stated to be their Senior Prom, meaning the Dawson Casting in this show wouldn’t have been as egregious as it ended up being with the characters Retconned to being freshmen during Season 1. This also means Saban was initally planning to go full Sentai and have a new cast each season
Also they were going to adapt Kai under the name of Bubba
Huh... Ernie as a human disguise for Zordon... I mean, okay, I can sorta see how that could have been an interesting twist... or rather if there had been any hints to Erni even having any mysterious secrets in even one previous episode, or maybe scattered scenes where Ernie offers the civilian rangers sage advice establishing him as a secondary mentor. As a reveal that only comes up in the final episode, however, it would have just been contrived nonsense.
@@EmeralBookwise though I’ve also heard the idea of Ernie being Zordon was scrapped once they cast Richard Genelle because they thought a fat guy running a fitness center was funny
@@skibot9974: Yeah, it makes more sense as a scrapped idea from pre-production. Especially as MMPR did at least feature some parallels to ZyuRanger, so Zordon having a civilian identity would have better mirrored Barza.
A bit of a shame they never went through with it though, even after casting Richard Genelle in the role as a "joke", I think Ernie could have still worked as an alter-ego to Zordon, if they'd actually hinted at it.
@@EmeralBookwise hell I can’t think of anything off the top of my head that would outright contradict it and Genelle had to leave after the second movie from health issues, with Zordon leaving Earth in the Season 5 premiere so it might as well still be canon
The Bandora dance is pretty great.
It's so funny how Power Rangers generally tries to be sillier than the Sentai, but they cut out the Bandora dance.
Shame
You can catch a glimpse of it in green with evil
IRRC they do somethign similar in a later season despite it no longer adaptng zyu ranger
4:13 - As long as we're re-reusing footage for "A Pig Surprise", I wonder if it would've worked if the Megazord fight featured the return of the Chunky Chicken instead of Goldar. From what I remember from the original Zyuranger 2-parter, the Dora Cockatrice was actually two monsters the heroes had to destroy twice. The Megazord fight we saw in "Big Sisters" was the first one, with the second one where he looses his hat and gets hedge-clippers instead of scissors going unused. This would've been a perfect excuse to use it I think.
You are absolutely correct. There were indeed 2 Dora Cockatrices.
What’s espically ironic about comparing Bandora to Rita is that in Season 2 after Rita gives Lord Zedd a love potion he suggests having a baby causing her to flee in terror. Then the 15th anniversary special in Operation Overdrive “Once A Ranger”, would reveal the two ended up having a son named Thraxx (who was somehow alive centuries in the past)
He might be like Trunks from Dragon Ball. A Time-traveler.
@@38procentkrytykI’ve heard some theorize that Rita and Zedd were actually together in the past and just hit a rough patch before Rita’s 10,000 year banishment
It would explain how they could independently have the titles of Empress and Emperor of Evil along with Zedd still being in love with Rita even after he’s freed from the love potion’s influence in Season 3. If they already had Thraxx and lost him it would explain why Rita was mortified at the idea of having another kid
Of course this is an example for the fans putting more thought into the lore than the writers
Seconding the "New Mighty Morphin Dairangers".
Thirding!

RIP Robort Axelrod voice of Lokar.
To note, the Bandora Song of this arc did make it to the West before we would get Super Sentai DVD.
It showed up in a 1998 special Power Rangers Funniest Moments hosted by Johnny Yong Bosch (Who would shortly show up in Power Rangers in Space "Always a Chance").
Special also showed an ending theme from Kakuranger and Megaranger.
There is another bit from the Zyuranger finale that was used for a PR product rather than in an episode proper, but that's for the last of the Zyuranger review.
Oh wow, that's interesting.
Maybe you're referring to bandora when she's sealed up again and she's dancing that they briefly used in a clip talking about rita and zordons backstory. I saw that video that was a few minutes maybe but I can't seem to find it anymore.
@@thealmightyfalcon1359 I meant the song before they began the first of the final battle.
Oh dang, episode 28?! Okay, guess I gotta go back and catch up :O
I think I know who wins the best villain award, but we always did.
Other than toy sales, I'm surprised that Saban didn't use the Dairanger costumes when they ran out of Zyuranger footage. I mean, it would have made things a lot easier, afterall. White Tiger was an uber upgrade, so why not the Dairanger outfits? It's not like those outfits are bad. In fact they're extremely cool. So maybe there's some behind the scenes mess that I don't remember or know.
It's because of branding. The original run was very successful and they didn't want to change too many things. The costumes became iconic and they wanted them to last as long as possible.
You answered your own question. Had the show been a modest hit they’d have jumped on that route but Mighty Morphin was a JUGGERNAUT
Marketers are paranoid once they find something that works, anything new would be too risky
Nl
I've heard they originally were gonna adapt the kid as Rita's son Bubba.
They should've kept the name. Thrax sounds boring, Bubba is at least fucking hilarious.
I have to say, I do hope you continue with Dairanger, it would be interesting to see your comparisons to the storylines there and how well the footage got adapted for MMPR. I've really enjoyed your comparisons and would hate to see them end
Feels like the kids piloting the enemy mech could've been used for Power Rangers with Bulk and Skull taken hostage. Maybe have them try to escape and wreck the place, giving the Ranger an edge.
amazing how that was how things almost ended but became the franchise it is
Oh sweet this episode yes!
The next season dosen't exactly...have a counter part until zeo,
What will you do after this?
Which episode has the review of Daizyuzen's last day? (Sorry if I misspelled that)
I really want to refresh my memory of that one since youwntion it a lot

And then scientists classified birds as dinosaurs so the Dino-Apocalypse was never going to happen.
Doomsday definitely comes off as a finale crudely rewritten as random episodes. Especially with part of the script of one of the older drafts of the script floating around online due to a old writer sharing them proving it. Where Kai would have been adapted into “Bubba”, Zordon taking control of the Megazord as the it way of adapting Daizyujin talking and having Rita sealed away. Kinda surprised by the lack of mention of that part of the old script here.
Can someone make a fanfic based on that old draft of the script? I love me a good “what if?” story!
I wonder if this series will be finished before the end of 2023.
Our you going to do the all new mighty morpin dairangers?
SEASON 2 HYPE!!!!
5:01 They're squatting like they just shat themselves.
Will you talk about lord zedd?
Can you please do season 2 please
Season 2 only uses Megazord footage from Sentai so if he dies later seasons he wouldn’t have much to compare till Zeo
@@skibot9974he actually doing Dairanger
Season 2 is a far looser adaptation, consisting of way more original footage. It's far harder to draw any direct parallels between MMPR and Dairainger. Moreso than perhaps any other season, they are just two entirely distinct shows which only share a few aesthetic similarities.
It would probably be easier to compare and contrast MMPR season 3 (which at least leans all in on the ninja angle) with Kakuranger, than season 2 with Dairanger.
Well, doing or not, it would at least be interesting to look at both series overall rather then episode to episode, using examples from random episodes, and compare and contrast. He could do a few videos with that angle, similar with season 3. I get the feeling MMPR is where his nostalgia ends, so it might be tougher to have him do beyond that. But it would be appreciated nonetheless as far as he is interested in going.
Before season 2, there's still the Zyu2 footage episodes. Even in season 2, dairanger monsters don't appear until episode 14 and even then because they don't use the dairanger footage you don't really see much of them unless they get the monster suit out apart from zord battles which can also be quite short a lot of the time. Not that it's bad, but dairanger footage feels quite short in power rangers compared to Zyuranger and Zyu2.
I am planning to use some Monster Suits for an Animated Show, that I am working on!
I think wanted to try and do more themselves instead of always using sentai footage
Saban removing the tragic backstory involving Bandora’s dead son isn’t remotely surprising, but them getting rid of the wacky villain song seems unnecessary. Power Rangers is already campy as all hell, and the villains are already over the top wisecracking cartoon characters, so why hold back?
Time. 4 episodes condensed down to 2 is wayyy harder than you'd think.
@@ZeroX7649Yeah they had 40 episodes ordered. So I don't think they could go over and have it be longer.
RIP JDF
Do Superhuman Samuari Syber Squad vs Gridman
I get the feeling they left the villains musical number not only for time constraints, but also the paradoxical "we want this show to be silly, but we DON'T want it to be silly" nonsense. Like Bulk and Skull can fall into a cake, the kaiju can make dumb puns and American pop culture references, but Rita singing a song and dancing is just a step too far. Shame. I'm sure they would have to rewrite the song for multiple reasons (music copyright and it's usually easier to have a completely new song than try to force translated lyrics), but the musical talent under Saban could have produced an original banger. Maybe it personified the villains too much, I dunno.
The paradox is in MMPR's pretense of "maturity". Sure, Power Rangers can have comedic slapstick, but it was ostensibly not supposed to be "childish", and musical villain songs... that's Disney stuff. Never mind that Disney animated features are actually made to appeal to all ages, but especially back in the 90s there was still very much a stigma that anything animated was exclusively for kids.
And, yeah, Power Rangers was also for kids, literally airing alongside other cartoons, but being live action gave it that pretense of being more "grown-up". It's all very dumb in retrospect of course.
@@EmeralBookwise My issue is, as an adult with the internet that has easy access to what the show came from and a more critical eye, I don't see this musical number as juvenile. Rather I see it as a "WTF, why are they singing, this show is WEIRD to begin with, and I didn't expect that, PLEASE give me more," situation. I get that they were trying to move away from fantasy elements and leaning harder on sci-fi ones. And that works for that version of the series. But what I don't get is just taking all the fun and camp out of the villains, but keeping it for the American made comic relief. Plus, I think giving Rita more layers and more camp villain tendencies would have made the American series so much extra. The headache stuff and Roseanne-esque voice made her funny, sure, but why stop there?
@@mightyfilm It was a different time and humor simply wasn't the same. It's funny now through a post internet-UA-cam world view, but back then humor was more wit and "WTF that's so random lol" didn't exist yet. It would've come off as very uncool and annoying to their mostly young boy audience.
The writers didn't seem to show Rita's face for that long before cutting away to something else and I think it was because of trying to match words to her mouth movements, that also could have been why they didn't use it. They used some of the first song in the mantis episode repurposed as summoning putties and a bit in episode 18 also repurposed as approaching Green ranger. They did have extra footage of rita but even then a lot of those longer scenes were ones filmed with the back of her costume to the camera.
Spoiler Warning and all, but given that Part 2 of "Doomsday" arguably has to cut out even MORE of its "ZyuRanger" counterparts, I'm not exactly LOVING its chances of faring better than Part 1 did.
Dor dor dor, dora dora dorrrrra Bandora
I hope it doesn’t take months before the next episode. I hate leaving things at “To Be Continued”, only to never finish the stories. That causes me to not want to watch.
What happened What takes you so long and you have to do season 2
There's an issue with that
Season 2 dosen't have a orginal series.
The rest of PRMM used costume bought footage for its next few seasons. And mixed multiple senties once the white ranger came around...
Funny thing about this Power Ranger Finale... because in my back of the woods, they started airing Power Rangers in... I wanna say 1994, they managed to just keep airing all new stuff without ever taking a break for years! I'm pretty sure it was an ongoing show, all year round, twice a week, until at least Lost Galaxy, so I never took the finale as a Finale, and instead it was just a two part episode (of which I have no remembrance at all), which was then followed by them introducing Lord Zedd, who'd get rid of Rita, and then proceeded to curb stomp the rangers, destroy their Zords, and make them lose their powers.
That was memorable, and forced a change to the status quo, Doomsday did nothing.
I believe MMPR first aired in 1993 which would only give a year gap. That said, the "hiatuses" taken were extremely short with the one between season 1 and 2 being the longest iirc. After that they knew they were continuing so they sped up the process I would assume. So it's still possible that yeah, you would have no gaps between seasons until much later because aside from the first there were shorter gaps if any at all.
@@PathBeyondTheDark I clearly remember season 1, 2, Ninjas, Zeo, Turno and In Space going all one after the other without and gaps between series.
I barely remember watching Doomsday as a kid at all and I know I've seen ever episode multiple times. Hell, I remember the second Pig episode more than I remember Doomsday. I think it's because Cyclopsis just wasn't that interesting.
The opening episodes of season 2 is kind of like a finale to some season 1 elements. I find it funny how later on they say they might need tor because thunderzords might not be enough to win against goldar and scorpina even though they fought the dinozords which apparently weren't strong enough anymore for zedds monsters. If thunderzords are stronger why would they also need tor when they managed fine with the dinozords against goldar and scorpina. Its like when lord zedd says he thinks rita monsters are inferior, no more of them and then rita monsters are brought back later on before rita comes back.
@@ZeroX7649Cyclopsis was a force to be reckoned with and gave the rangers a big challenge. Meanwhile, serpentera just runs out of battery. People might like serpentera and so do I, but the rangers actually had to beat clyclopsis. In terms of evil zords, I definitely prefer Cyclopsis. Serpentera has more of a size advantage. Even when cyclopsis was beat, Rita brought in lokar to help reconstruct it. Serpentera just flees.
9:11
Well, to be fair, the celebration was announced in the papers at the very beginning of the episode, BEFORE the Rangers actually defeat Cyclopsis. So the celebration wasn't for the Power Rangers defeating Rita; it was to show their appreciation for them simply _being there_ in the first place.
In the mechanical sense of the narrative, yes, you are absolutely correct. But structurally and thematically, the event exists to celebrate the Power Rangers triumphing over the forces of evil.
@@MistareFusion There's also a line from Zack in the Command Center, where he says "We may have beaten Rita, but there'll be others." Others like Lord Zedd and the Machine Empire.
So yes, there is mention of Rita being defeated, even in the final cut. So we could presume that her retreat at the end was her actually retreating all the way back to the M51 Galaxy, not just retreating back to the moon.
There was also a line that was left in the final cut where Zordon explained that, now that the Command Center had access to Rita's entire database of spells, they could put a stop to her altogether. Obviously, that line was forgotten immediately after the episode, so it definitely SHOULD have been cut entirely, but nevertheless, it remains, to the detriment of future episodes.
So there is definitely the occasional line here and there about Rita being somehow defeated. Episode 41 onward merely ignored all of that.
hemmm........
Season one did needed to continue with season two for the Mighty Morphine Power Rangers as nothing like Zyurangers from Japan
Doomsday was awesome 😎
Are you wearing a dress?
In this video? No.
@MistareFusion
I dunno. Looked frilly like something females wear, so I assumed it was a dress.
Cosmic fury floped so this is sadly the end of the power rangers for good.
From what I understand, that guy who worked for hasbro just said they won't be using stock footage anymore and creating something completely orignal from what Super Sentai has been doing.
not really cosimic fury did really good and most of fans base really liked it
there been much wrost seasons of power rangers and show keep going
@@drow_Lilith9940It didn't flop, you're right, but it was always intended to be a finale of the era, like In Space, Wild Force's Forever Red, and RPM were. Next up is the reboot details about which we don't yet know. Is it a full reboot or a soft reboot, what it's about, nothing for now.
Most people actually liked it so no it's not a fucking flop. Do you even know what a flop even is?
Speaking of flop, is that what happened to Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling? It was supposed to air on Nickelodeon, but they canceled it and threw it away to Netflix, automatically deeming it a flop. Yet just yesterday I saw it under the “Popular on Netflix” category. But the mere fact that Netflix somehow owns it is the reason Nickelodeon can’t make a follow up season, or make any more Rocko merchandise. Netflix wrecked my life and my intended fanfic.
