I'VE OFFICIALLY MADE MY DECISION! Which Harley-Davidson Bagger will I choose?

  • I've officially made my decision! Road Glide or Street Glide? I can't thank @harleydavidson enough for loaning this gorgeous Street Glide to me for a few weeks to really get a feel for this bike! After riding it around, I have come to the conclusing that I STILL love the Road Glide! She's the bike for me!
Now that doens't mean i'm going to turn around and buy a Road Glide haha! BUT it does mean that I feel confident enough to base my decision off the ample opportunities to test ride multiple different H-D platforms and really learn which motorcycle will be the best fit for myself, my riding style, and my future!

you should get the Road Glide.. the Street Glide's front end is similar to your existing Harley Jess, at least with the Road Glide, the whole front panel stays in place when you turn (just like how Queen.Sit describes it), different from your existing Harley and the Street Glide (panel also moves when you move the front end), just my two cents, hihi.. don't get me wrong, all these bikes are amazing! im just sharing the difference, ride safe!!

Last year when I was looking for my next bike it was between the Streetglid and Road King. Needless to say the Road King won out I guess I'm still old school and I just didn't want the faring yet. I have found sometimes where the faring would have been nice( like when it was 46 degrees and I road 180 mi from Salem Oh to Columbus to get my Jeep) that was cold. But all in all I love my Road King but maybe my next bike will be the Streetglid only time will tell. Stay safe out there and keep making the good videos.

I have an ‘85 FLHTC. It’s the last year before HD went with the radio fairings, and it’s fairing is just a simple piece of fibreglass. I’ve actually had Harley riders ask me what I did with the radio. The E-G Standard is nice, but if they still made the old style fairings for use on a Road King, that would be my bike.

I love what you are doing here, Jess. Just giving the viewers your oppinion on that Street Glide, what you would and would not change, if you would own one to make it fit better for you. And you encourage others to modify the standard version for their fits. It is also nice to see where you come from, the bikes you owned and not owned but rode. I really like this format. I also enjoyed the babe ride out videos. Greetings from Bonn, Germany.

Your upgrading from the Shadow to a bigger bike confirmed my decision to buy a bigger bike right out of the gate.
I am a new rider (at 50 yrs old). When I started this journey, the best piece of advise I got was to NOT get a bike with less than 1100cc. The quote was "you can only twist that throttle on a smaller engine so far, before you're out of power. You can't twist more power out of it, no matter how hard you twist. But, you can always BABY the throttle of a bigger engine." That totally spoke to me. As I was shopping around for a bike, I saw so many ads for smaller engine bikes being sold with the reason of "I need a bigger bike." I didn't want to be THAT person in that same situation. I shopped around and found a BRAND NEW 2018 Suzuki Boulevard M90 for about $4K less than MSRP. It's a 1500cc engine. For a brand new rider, it is a lot to take on (especially since it's over 700 lbs.). I was really intimidated at first (scared to death, honestly). Luckily, I have a friend with a Honda Shadow (similar to yours) that was kind enough to offer me her bike to learn on. Having NEVER ridden a motorcycle before, after about 1.5 hours of practicing on her bike, my bike didn't seem as frightening. I just had to get over the fear. 3 months later, I now have over 1700 miles on my bike and no regrets at all. I would offer the same advise to anyone else out there starting today.

Great video. I was back and forth between the Street Glide and the Road Glide myself until my local Harley-Davidson store did their Demo Days a few weeks ago. Having ridden both of them back to back, it was a hands down decision for me >>>>>> Road Glide. The front end felt much lighter at all speeds. Also, price. The MSRP on the RG is actually $300 cheaper plus it comes with the dual LED headlamps. If I purchased the SG, the first mod would be to get a LED headlight. Also, I do not like the mirrors on the fairing on the SG, so that's another mod to get new handle-bar mounted mirrors. Over time, for me the look of the RG with its shark-nosed fairing is preferred over the bat-winged look. This is truly subjective though. The increased distance to the dash on the RG was an initial concern for me as well, but, practically everything on the infotainment screen is accessible from the handlebar mounted switches. After riding both back-to-back, I actually enjoyed the increased distance. >>>>>>> Perhaps the #1 reason I prefer the RG over the SG is at highway speeds of 65-75 mph, the SG was giving me a fair amount of wind buffeting on my helmet. This was NOT the case with the RG. At 5'8" with a 30" inseam, the RG fit me perfectly (both feet firmly on the ground) and the windshield height was spot on. Of course the windshield can be changed out on the SG to improve the wind buffeting issue, but again, I would have to spend more money on top of the LED headlamps and new mirrors mods previously mentioned. The RG and SG are, of course, the same bike from the fairing back. But, for me, the fairing (and the headlights and the mirrors) makes all of the difference and this is why my vote is for the Road Glide.

i'm a Retired Harley dealer service manager and GM and i have ridden them ALL since the 70's but for my personal bike i always either FX's or Softails, never owned a bagger till i got my used Road King Classic late last fall and OMG wish i'd gotten one long ago, almost did in 1992, i had ordered a 92 FLHS in Sapphire Sunglo Blue, well in the 90s you had to wait 6-10 months for a bike to come in, and when mine did it was An UGLY COLOR Not the blue i wanted, in the same shipment a blue FXR came in unspoken for and i bought that, then in 1996 the 1st Road King came out and i loved it, wanted one, but vs the price of the FLHS (Electraglide sport) it was out of my price range, i've ridden them, but i still can't get used to the fairings. so i'm a Road king guy

You did it right. Start out smaller bike and with experience you gradually increase in size. In Europe its mandatory to start out with a smaller bike. And people who started out with a full size bike just don't have a clue about motorcycles. I always say they have more money then brains. I have been riding over 50 + years have owned over 40 + motorcycles ( many different brands) and have recorded over 3/4 MILLION MILES. I enjoy watching new riders with their enthusiasm and surprised what options bikes have. Like your videos

@11:30 - I'll be real honest about it, Jess. I'm 5'9.25 tall and I've been riding 4 decades. I've owned more than 20 motorcycles, and have rode more than that over the time. I've never once rode a motorcycle where I wanted or felt a need to "flat foot" both feet at a stop. I guess it comes down to me feeling more sexy on toes than flat footing the stops. Weird, yes. Normal, probably not. Am I weird and not normal, ABSOLUTELY!!! :)

I'm not a "Harley-guy" and I'm definitely not in the market for a new bike, but you are probably the best voice for Harley Davidson on the internet. You connect with the fastest rising segment of the industry (women riders), you speak from a relatively new rider's perspective (just six years of riding) and you speak to where it can take you.. both physically, geographically, experientially and psychologically. All that said, I hope you've given a strong reminder to Harley and every other manufacturer to the value of a test ride of a new bike. I've always been amazed I could take a $150,0000 Lexus or Mercedes for a test drive after ten minutes with a salesperson, but not a $20,000 motorcycle. Makes no sense..

Started out with a road king moved on to the ultra limited then to the road glide special, & finally back to the limited a brand new CVO 2021 ultra limited CVO. 😊 if ya get the chance to ride one! You’ll never look back. I like your videos. I’d say only thing I’d say different is the difference between the batwing and shark . Shark looks cool 😎 & handles great. But honestly once you’re used to the weight of the batwing. You miss it when it’s gone. It helps you roll through turns. It also blocks a lot more wind 🌬. You can actually hear the stereo on the batwing a lot better. As for storage a dash organizer takes car of that. iPhone mini fits that slot though perfect. Also gotta watch those cubbies on the road glide. Lost a few pair of glasses & a garage opener out of there. But hey to each their own. Keep the rubber down. Ride on

I ride a Heritage Softail. For some reason, she fits me perfectly. Were I to trade her for ANYthing, it would be a Street Glide. But that's just me. The RG tickles your fancy, get that. Be happy.

Guess that makes that Street Glide a "girls bike", now! LOL 👍 Good on ya, never understood that macho posturing nonsense from the Harley community, I mean if a girl can ride your bike, then doesn't that also make it a "girls bike"?

If you're going to put down miles an Ultra is the only way to go.JMO. But I still have my 1200 to buzz around C-Bus. I still get compliments on the Sporty for how she looks and that is always good for the I'm cool ego ! lol

Hi Jess, I love your videos, they give me a sense of what it's like to ride a big bike and I like your unique way of looking at things, it always makes me smile. I sadly can't get a car or bike licence due to the fact that I am a chronic epileptic so your videos are my favourite way to experience different bikes and what it's like in relation to your other test drives. Love your camping videos just as much. Thanks. Fond Regards from the Emerald Isle. Twiglet, aka Jas the Bass...

The Road Glide and Street Glide are great bikes. No doubt about it. However, please include your UA-cam business in your decision process. As you mentioned in the video, you realize that we only see the gauges and the fairing from your helmet camera. And what we see needs to be considered. Unless you relocate your helmet camera to your eye level on the side, the best choice, IMHO, is the Road King with just a windshield. With a Road King you can keep your centerline camera position and we can see more of what you see. Road King is good for business.

The street glide is an amazing machine. I have a 2019 and love it. I also ride a 1997 softail springer and a 2006 custom chopper build. My springer is hard running and rides hard, it’ll beat your ass after a lot of miles but that street glide is the Cadillac of Harleys.

Started on a Yamaha vstar 1300 in October and put 7k miles on that. Went on vacation to Florida and rode my sister’s street glide, couple days later on Father’s Day I traded my bike in and got a 2015 ultra classic and loving it. Rode to Florida on a Yamaha rode back to Georgia on a sweet ultra with only 5k miles on it

I have never owned a street legal bike. Until last month an auction came up with a 2013 Victory Cross country tour. I've put about 2200 miles on 1500 of that last weekend.

Really dig into the pros and cons of a special over a standard and vice versa. You can kit out a standard with all the “special” stuff. Minus RDRS, VHC, 114”, black finish, and a couple other proprietary things.

I got the feeling that you didn't like the Street Glide very much. Is it the weight and/or the handling? I'm thinking of buying one. I will be graduating from a 883 Sportster. What are your thoughts.

Very cool. I like the look of the Bat wing, ( that's what I have ) but the Shark nose handles better, it's like the front end is lighter or something. Like you said, to each their own. What I can't figure out is why someone would watch a video just to give it a thumbs down. So weird. Be safe Jess !!

So to this day, I actually prefer the look of the batwing fairing. The problem for me was the way the road glide road. In my opinion, having owned both styles, is that the road glide maneuvers better because the fairing weight isn’t on the forks. That being said I bought a 19 road glide special because of the ride and comfort was better than the bat wing. I’ll probably never go back to a bat wing style fairing.

Happy it quit raining for you. We are looking at triple digits the next few days in Portland. I can.t ride that bike Because as I have said I am short and I would not be seeing over the fairing well enough to feel safe so you keep riding it for me!!!! I will keep riding my Bobber :)

My Road Glide's fuel tank can outpace my butt all day long even with an aftermarket saddle. I love that bike, and you'll love yours. The only problem is all the money you'll spend making it your own.

hi I've owned 3 batwing fairing baggers but in dec. 2020 I bought a new road glide limited what I have discovered is the batwing fairing blocks a little bit more air ,little . what I think though is the road glide fairing cuts the air better giving you a little better gas mileage I have 12k on the new bike now. enjoy !

I get the appeal of the road glide and the street glide, however they just were not comfortable to me. My first Harley was a 13 dyna super glide with leather saddle bags and clear windscreen and last year I traded it for a 2020 heritage classic with hard bags and clear windscreen. I went with the heritage after trying a street glide and road glide. The heritage just felt right, felt comfortable to me. Enjoy the street glide!

I don't listen to a radio when I ride, so neither one matters to me where that screen is. I do like where the gauges are on the Street Glide compared the the Road Glide. I like the protection the Road Glide gives you over the Street Glide though. If I were buying one for long distance I would probably just go for the Road Glide Limited and get the longer suspension and better seat along with the tour pack.

The way you started your motorcycle journey is the way you have to in my country. Once you get your motorcycle license you have to ride a motorcycle legally. restricted to 650 CC or less, after 2years of this you can go back to school and get your unrestricted motorcycle license, which means you can ride any motorcycle anywhere.

I went from a Sportster to a 15 RGS with zero hours on a touring bike. I was amazed at the balance and handling. 6 years later I have no desire to buy a SG. Be different. RG is roomier for taller riders and the fixed fairing was never a big deal other than the steering is lighter than a batwing.

Road Glide for the win. Ive rode both and find the RG much more nimble and less affected by wind.
