Dear HEART... at 79, I so love to watch your segments... a wonderful diversion from this crazy world...I can't begin to tell you how much I enjoy your sharing ... bringing back those old 'life skills' that sustained our ancestors. thank you so much
Years ago I was at a road side stand buying 2 bushels of pears. There was an older woman sitting by the stand just watching the traffic go by. She heard my husband and I talking about how long it was going to take to peel them all. She called me over to her and told me not to peel the pears. Just to core them and slice them and can them in a light syrup and they would have a better flavor. So i tried it and she was right! They had a wonderful pear flavor! I have never peeled a pear since!
But when u get ready to eat them you just eat the skin too ? Anymore there’s so many pesticides I think for me I would peel. Maybe if I knew who and what the grower did would I leave them.
THANK YOU LORD, FOR THE TECHNOLOGY FOR US TO BE ABLE TO LEARN, AND SHARE FROM AROUND THE WORLD . MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY . SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SPIRIT 💓🌱🌐.
When my mom canned pears, sometimes she would add little red hot candies to the jars, with the light syrup, before she put them in the canner. It made light pink pears that were cinnamon flavor
Love your memories of eating pears while watching Hawaii-Five 0. Childhood memories attached to food, moms, and grandmoms and aunties are sweet to remember. Smells even
juju55488 How true, memories. On a little different note, after my husband died of an aggressive Glioblastoma Multiforme brain tumor in 2005 at age 55, one of the items I kept was his bathrobe. When the grief was overwhelming, I would go to my walk-in closet and snuggle that bathrobe because it smelled of him. It was so comforting
You have ignited a canning epidemic I had to stop canning for a while and started watching your videos and now I’m on a Canning kick with it a lot of other people it looks like thanks so much for getting us back into canning again.
Hello Mrs Homestead Heart ok you got me canning like crazy Im lovi g it so good to see you as always you and hubby are so much appreciated and the dog is hilarious that look on your face is priceless love yall now carry on Im glued to the tube
Even greater when our husbands are on board. Makes things so much simpler. Mine is on board but not on the scale big enough yet. He thinks it's just a hobby. Lol.
one of the homes i rented had a pear tree in the front yard and the pears would be so big. my mom would come when they were ripe and pick as many as she could reach and she would go home and can them. i loved those canned pears. they were so good and the simple syrup had the right amount of sweetness to it. of all the places that i stayed, that home is the one i missed most because of the fruit trees that were on the property.
Your little dog is just answering you because surely you must be talking to him since there is no one else in the house. My little girl does the same thing when I'm on the phone. They may understand the concept of phones and cameras someday but in the mean time we just have to love them for trying to make our lives better. I love your videos and please hug your Great Pyrenees for me. I miss mine so much, It's a wonderful thing to be loved by a Pyr.
This is one of my favorite channels - you’re fast, and to the point (to your extreme* credit) ... you make it so understandable, and easy = adore you ... thanks so much for being here
I love pears too. This is a Martha Stewart trick I learned years ago, use a Melon Baller to core apples and pears. Yes sometimes you have to use a knife to to cut out the stem or blossom end of the fruit. My Mama Brown made the best Pear Preserves in the world. This is how she did it. 1) Peel and core the pears and cut them into slices. 2) Put a layer of pears in a pot then a layer of sugar.. 3) Put the lid on the pot and let them sit on the counter overnight. 4) Next morning put them in clean Ball Jars, the size of your choice. Cover them with the juice in the pot. 5) I follow my Ball Canning Book for canning cold pack canning pears. I've never lost anything I canned going by their directions. 6) I have even used a few pears enough for 1 jar and put them straight into my refrigerator. They are so good on biscuits, on ice cream, or a shortcake.
I'm new to watching your videos but when you dropped that pear and laughed I fell in love with you. This is the third video I've watched and you have simplified my canning life SO MUCH! Thank you, thank you, thank you. My 16-year-old grand-daughter even said, "Grama, I could do that." Guess who's canning with me this season! God bless you and yours!
Hello I am new to your channel and so far I am in heaven with all that you are doing. Please keep them videos coming, I appreciate all that you homesteads do, God Bless you.
See there, trying to sneak a pear for your later enjoyment.....the jar prevailed for a bigger later enjoyment, a whole quart(don't eat at all one time, LOL) . Love your way of teaching (yes teaching), sharing your knowledge of canning. It's like watching family. Thank you so much can't wait for the next tutorial. YES WE CAN CAN. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY THE HOMESTEADS

She passed in 1993 and the first time I heard and saw your video it took me back to a time when we would be in her kitchen. We would cook together and share recipes together and have so much fun. Please keep these kind of videos going. We need to teach these young ones what real wholesome cooking is all about. I am going to can some of your recipes in her memory. God bless you and may your life be as blessed and fruitful as my friend Margie's was.👍😉

Now if I can just find pears to can!

I dip my pears in boiling water just like peaches and tomatoes and the peels slide right off. You are having a gravity storm in your kitchen today. Love your videos, thank you for teaching canning. I have been canning and helping my mom and dad do canning since I was 4, I am 67 now and I still learning, many things change over the years. My momma said crank those rings down and the is the hardest for me to learn from you youngsters.
Wonderful video! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 I see what I will be doing in the future when my pear trees get a little older and start producing more fruit. Thanks for sharing. Kindest Regards, Lady Cheryl ❤️❤️❤️
Been watching you for a year and love love love your canning videos you are so sweet to watch and so informative for my daughter's generation that don't know the things!
New to canning here. I’ve canned strawberry and fig jam, so this was first for me. Everything seemed to go well, only thing I didn’t like was pealing almost 20lbs. Of pears. Ended up with 9 quarts, but only canned 7 since i couldn’t get anymore in the canner. Haven’t tried them yet, tomorrow, we’ll open a jar. I’ve watched this video a dozen times and had it on while working through the process...As old as I am, I’m kind of embarrassed to say that this was the first time to do this, and hope to do more. Thank you for sharing your gift of canning with so many folks. i look forward to canning more. God Bless.
Hi, 2-3 years ago I planted an Ayers & Moonglow whip in zone 6B, now they have grown enough to have fruiting spurs. This spring I am expecting to plant six Asian pear trees (on order), all different varieties. I really enjoy canned fruit from the store, but its crazy expensive as a treat.
I just want to say Thank You, because of your videos I’ve learned how to can. Something I’d never thought I’d do. I’ve even gotten my girls involved..... I’ve got a new hobby🤣🤣 I’ve been water bath and pressure canning every day. I also made cream of wheat bread for my family, I couldn’t even let it cool it was a hit. Please keep posting great videos, your inspiring us!
I am a beginner canner I have done canning watching your show, I so like your video's and of course when you make that face when you dog barks. I have leaned so much with you thank you for teaching me.
You are an angel!! When I was little I remember my mom and grandma canning together after a day of shucking Georgia peas. I watched but never learned how to do it on my own. Now at age 60 you’ve made it look so easy and fun that I’m going to give it a try. You teach for newbies in each video and it’s so appreciated. Just watching your channel brings me such joy and confidence. Bless you and Mr. H for sharing your lives with all of us!
I love the way she makes canning so easy. She has such a wonderful attitude as she does all her canning. And her dog his just giving his point a view as well she makes me so happy with her dog.She encourages others to can❤️Thank you lady so much
Thank you soooooo much for your recipes and suggestions for canning imma East Texas country girl that is restarting my country life ince more..no summer oears just fall pears so for this year..your dog is is so funny, I love your videos..showing real life living n how we can prepare our harvests if the seasons..
I really like watching your canning vidoes. They remind me of how much I enjoyed putting up my own food. My garden did really poorly this year. I need to find a good farmer's market and get back to it.
One been binge watching your channel done I found it yesterday. I've been saying I want to relearn to can for months now. I did it as a small child. I keep saying the fact that I haven't been canning as an adult has to have my grandmother very disappointed in me. She's cooked everything from scratch and I chose convenience. As I've gotten older I find myself wanting more and more of the homesteading life.
I wonder, Mr. and Mrs. HH, do you wish you could have started this “homesteading” adventure and way of life sooner where you could have raised your own family in the way you are living today? ❤️
Dear HEART... at 79, I so love to watch your segments... a wonderful diversion from this crazy world...I can't begin to tell you how much I enjoy your sharing ... bringing back those old 'life skills' that sustained our ancestors. thank you so much

It's way more fun watching you can pears than actually canning pears.
I did peaches for the first time in June and used white grape and apple juice juice instead of a syrup:)

I really like watching your canning vidoes. They remind me of how much I enjoyed putting up my own food. My garden did really poorly this year. I need to find a good farmer's market and get back to it.
I love watching all of your canning!! I grew up canning with my granny in southern Louisiana as we had a 2 acre garden.
⚘ Peace & Blessings Sis ❤, I simply love pears also 🤗... Thanks Again! 🙋🏽♀️🥰👍🏽
And just like that. I'm off to canning Pears! You are awesome 🤗❤️🌱

Yaaaaa I was hoping for canning 💕
I wonder, Mr. and Mrs. HH, do you wish you could have started this “homesteading” adventure and way of life sooner where you could have raised your own family in the way you are living today? ❤️
I love the looks you give your barking dogs.
