I think showing hikes that didn't go as planned makes a lot of sense. There are so many highly idealized vanlife channels that only show the highlight reels, but your theme has always been more authentic. Life doesn't always cooperate with our plans, so you might as well show what you did about it in the end.

    • @tarstarkusz
      @tarstarkusz 3 роки тому +20

Not only does it make sense to include the failed ones, it is outright lying to not include them. I am glad he had the integrity to post it. If you never fail at your climbs, it's because you are picking ones well below your skill and fitness level.

    • @Cutlass_Rudd

From what I've seen the "highlight reel" channels are fake and made by film students. The bulk of "van" channels are simply an ebegging venue, my transmission went out again, please send money boo hoo boo hoo. THIS channel is real

This was actually very interesting to watch. Because it breaks up kind of the routine what do you typically now accomplish. So it shows a even more realistic view of the risks and pitfalls of climbing a mountain by yourself. And so it’s very interesting to watch. Yes please do also show Trips like this one when you encounter very difficult situations and need to improvise and not necessarily achieve the summit.

@@AltraxX and much more honest. I can't stand it when channels only ever upload their successes, whether it's repairing a car or climbing a mountain. It is very misleading. It is really just lying by omission.

I can't even imagine how tough that hiking was. Bushwacking is exhausting, doing hours of it uphill would be a killer. Boots leaking bad. Mosquitos swarming. Trail destroyed. Log crawls over whitewater streams. Makeshift backpack (had to be painful on the shoulders). Apex predators. Impassable cliffs. Having to stay an unplanned extra night with just a handful of food left. Beer gone. Foresty is one gnarly dude.

Foresty you are quickly becoming one of my favorite channels on UA-cam. I'm totally living vicariously through you with all the hiking you do. As someone who works out in the woods for a living, I really appreciate and applaud how you are constantly evaluating your situation and questioning whether you can continue safely (not that I haven't seen you take calculated risks). In my opinion, it takes a very mature individual to say "no not worth it" and turn around and head back to safety, especially after putting in that much effort. A good, humble lesson for us all. Cheers man and stay safe.

This was great. I think it's super important to see safety being prioritized rather than idealized hikes. Safety is often underrepresented in the 'social outdoors' space, and I really appreciate seeing it here. Thanks!

Showing the failures as well as the successes is actually a good thing IMO. Too many people on social media only show the up side of their lives and completely ignore the reality that things sometimes go sideways so you have to re-adjust or bail out altogether.

Grizzly Bears live throughout most of Western Canada. They are as dangerous, or not as dangerous, as the ones in the very close northwest USA, northern Montana, Idaho, Wyoming. Many migrate across the border. Part of the problem in the USA is the bears are squeezed into a fraction of their former range and are in close proximity to lots of people, especially in and around Glacier and Yellowstone Parks. In Canada there are fewer people and lots of space for the Grizz so there is less stress for both.

Putting up a video showing you not completing a summit is really good for your followers to see. It shows you calculating the risk and deciding that the odds are not good. It also shows you stopping on the way back to the van in order to give your body a break. All good modeling for people who could get carried away by the "do or die" motto. This video was great, really enjoyed the different camera angles when you were cooking, and the over all message for me was acceptance of the experience. Not everything you set to achieve is going to work, but what you learn from the experience is what’s most important. Good job keeping it real man 🤙

Still a good video despite the disappointment of no summit. Keep showing us the rain as well as the sunny days. :)

I absolutely love the incomplete trail conversation. That recap of your trip and sharing your experience with us was the best part 😊 thank you

Good change of pace. Sorry you had to lug the drone around all day and night and couldn’t use it.
I get the disappointment but the video was solid. We like just being part of it!

As always, you being you and being real and showing everything is what brings us to watch you. It's not always sunshine and rainbow! Thank you for the entertaining video.

Actually, i tremendously enjoyed this video POV, learning more about the little ‘ends and outs’.
For me, pitching tent in the ‘middle of trail’ first night was hilarious. I would have been leary of a ‘bear visit’…AND you WERE!! 🤣🤣👍🏻
(especially after eating IN your tent🤔)

DITTO !! Pitching directly ON a game trail ? With recent Apex scat ! Cooking within 100-200' of your tent ?! & eating INSIDE the tent ???

I dont know how you do it, I walked 100ft into the woods in Canada and every noise was a Grizzly, even after being told they hadnt seen one for 50 years in that area.

Bushwacking through still natural forest (with wet feet) and you return home with zero serious injuries after two plus days is a successful hike . The journey, not the destination is key (for me). As always, thanks for taking us along.
