  • In this episode we show some new seedlings I plant for a potential Howard Dill Award as well as give some tips to non competitive growers on when to start there seeds. We do a spy on Toms patch and feed the Giant Pumpkins out in the patch. We go over a single vine vs a double and find out if not double planting the hoop houses burnt me.

    I guess double planting is also for 2 of the same plant.. I put 2 diffrent plants in but obviously they will grow at a diffrent pace with diffrent genetics lol.. mark clements told me it makes more sense to plant 2 of the same then if one ribbon vines or something you can cull it. Idk I go with the most dominate but that really doesn't mean much this earlier either lol.

    What happens if I cut off the curly antennas from my pumpkin vine. Is it bad, I only cut 1 ? That's my question thanks

      Those are tendrils and no its not bad. Some growers cut all of them off the plant. I have in the past, but have lately been preferring to leave them on for stabilization.

    Wait you have to force the pumpkins to lay down? They don’t do it on there own? I’m growing them for the second year. And this year I’m hoping I get fruit. Ive never grown them successfully yet so I’m just trying to figure out the best way to get lots of pumpkins! Thanks🎃

      You don't want to "force" anything, we as competitive growers make sure they go in the direction we want them to, they will lay down on their own, but might not be the way we want them to go

      @@MobyMikePumpkins oh ok thanks! They are starting to lay down. But now I have a problem with cucumber beetles. I have been treating them with neem oil the whole season or since (June) I planted late, and it’s been working well until now. I sprayed Diatomaceous earth on them today, and I have sticky traps coming. Is there anything else i can do? Thanks ! Lots of questions lol.

      @@cayden6807 are you you all organic? If so I don't know any effective methods for cucumber beetles. If not bifen works wells, be careful with neem oil as it can easy to burn your leafs with

      @@MobyMikePumpkins yes as of right now. I’m not strict with it. If I have to I’ll use chemical alternatives. I wait until dusk to spray, to minimize burning. Thanks for the recommendation! Hope your growing season goes well!🎃🧡

    When should you stop adding nitrogen to the plant and start phosphorus?

    • @MobyMikePumpkins
      @MobyMikePumpkins  2 роки тому +1

      The plants need Nitrogen and Phosphorus their entire life cycle, so there is no start or stopping of any Nutrient. Generally growers will use lil more nitrogen during plant growth and less during fruiting. Phosphorus generally people look at flowering and fruiting, but understand that it also needed early on as well for rooting
