Well said James...this really is probably one of the greatest achievements ever. It should be way bigger news than it is...and the fact that the gent who did it (Alex of course) seems to be one of the most down to earth ego-less people I have ever seen makes it seem even more incredible. I hope nothing for him but more success...
Alex is the same age as my daughter and I have followed him for many years and just love his work ethic, the love he has for climbing and just everything he stands for, the environment, his contribution to those people who have no electricity which his money provides them with via solar power though the foundation he started.... what a brilliant young man and the bravest of all men he is and what he does is beyond any human has ever accomplished.... yes, Alex is my hero, there's no other that compares.
I practice all winter, spring, and summer this difficult boulder, but only made it halfway because I would be literally be shaking, scared that there was a high chance I could injure my self or possibly fall to my death. so one day I got enough courage to just go for it, after months of preparation I climb to the top with no safety gear and made it back. I don't suggest you do the same, I had a professional rock climber friend of mine teach me techniques, I worked out at the gym and practice many times. the feeling of conquering your fears is the best feeling ever.
@@cwoods711 bouldering and free soloing was the same thing for a longass while before crash pads existed, you're being a dick, it's all climbing, who the fuck cares wether you're scrambling class 4 ridges, sending 5.13c sport climbs, bouldering v11 or free soloing 5.6 alpine would-be trad, as long as you're having fun and enjoying the outdoors it's all that matters
Actually it does! The Matterhorn for example is crumbling down because it is kept togheter by ice wich is melting for the Climate change and now it's more risky to climb it for the rockfalls and an entire section fell down and now it's a technical slab, harder than before...
......everything changes. His trust in it being the same and it being reliable is something I will never understand. In a weird way I do understand though not in the same manner. I'm no climber for sure however, this is simply amazing. Credit to Alex who took his dream and embraced it to the full. One mean feat of human endeavour. Hat off to you Alex.

He doesn't need to prove himself to anyone anymore. I'd just love to listen to him speak. His words and life lessons, goals, effort would be valuable to children everywhere. It would be a loss to humanity should he die doing what he obviously loves to do and that wisdom become lost.

thats the thing he said in one of the earlier interviews. If you do free soloing for the recognition you will end up killing yourself. whereas he does it for the fact that he loves to do it and does it simply for himself and no one else. He would climb el cap even without anyone looking.
I've heard Alex say in interviews that he climbed it so often (with ropes) he had every handhold and foothold memorized. I think that is why he says that he minimized the risk to almost zero. But still...
He can be perfect 100%, working on the route 1000 times, and still one strong wind, a bird or even earthquake can make a disaster. Thats how dangerous it is.

I'm genuinely curious to why you guys regret it. I'm 18 and tell everyone I'm never getting married. They give me shit for that. But If your reading this, your married and regret it, I'm curious as to why?
yeah... idk why but a lot of rope soloist like using gri gri. He's not really rope soloing here though but he anchored the rope to one of the pitches which he abseiled to from the top.
@@jackdumanat49 so I wouldn't ever consider myself a "Soloist" but I've soloed a couple single pitch routes and I've also rope soloed using only a grigri because I knew I wouldn't fall I just needed to rappel down after but with as big as he is, i dont understand why he wouldn't rope solo with a mini traxtion and an acender or some variation. @@crisgarcia4400 yeah just like he said above, hes not really rope soloing (leading) hes basically top roping to practice the moves. I've used a soloist but many times I've just used a locking knot in the rope and keep moving it up when u can
