Tigers Jaw: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

- Lars | June 19, 2017 - The new album from Tigers Jaw, spin, revels in quiet pleasures, even as its rich production pulls power from the band's open wounds. It's the major-label debut from a band that, at one point, made yelping and earnest pop-punk before finding its way to intricate, and melancholy, pop.
After the lineup shake-up three years ago, Ben Walsh and Brianna Collins both step into larger roles as the primary songwriters and singers, here playing songs from spin stripped down to an acoustic guitar and keyboard. It's a strikingly intimate format that illuminates their close harmonies that tangle like garlands, and spare arrangements that open gingerly.

Acoustic June is one of the most beautifull songs i've ever heard.
@@strawberrykush6067 They should do an acoustic album with the new songs!
mos def
Thinking about where this band started from and how it lost so many members this is great. Im glad they didnt give up and still make great music.
awe
Didn’t they have a hiatus in 2013
true story! can't help but miss Adam though
@@goochface1000 He has a few newer projects
@@scottmccutchan3653 Yeah he's without a doubt having more success now than ever before. And not splitting it 4 ways, I feel bad for smaller bands these days.
I bet it feels so good to harmonize with someone like that
Tigers jaw has this weird aura to them, all of their songs are so well crafted, I could listen to them do stripped down versions of their songs all day, there’s something so perfect about the simplicity of the keyboard and guitar and their two voices
thats how I feel with old tigers jaw. I love them but I miss how it use to be I saw them for their 10 year anniversary tour and fuck it was beautiful hearing their self titled being played again ;-;
I still come back to this regularly, it’s so lovely.
so real
This band is bittersweet and nostalgia in the best way.

This is one of my favorite recordings they have done simply because she sings so confidently and harmonizes with him in a phenomenal way. It is absolutely stunning.
wholesome AF
I get a kick out of sad music, it always leaves me feeling "not alone" in my sorrow. Thank you tiny desk!
thank you. made me see it from a different perspective.
Peighter Novack misery loves company. So it would seem solitude does as well. What a freaking paradox that is.
i definitely got a late 90's vibe!
Tigers Jaw... Being as an ocean... Ben Gibbard (DCFC)
Cruel one convinced you in his stillness
In a dream, safe and harmless
Unknown to you
Wolf in sheep's clothing
Hand over mouth
His secrets you're holding
I can see you and the ache you're hiding
I'm here you know I'll always remind you
Lonely one, I always knew
The future tells a hazel view
Gemstone, like polish and acetone
For you are my sister sewn
I know you like the drive home
Breath deep, the knower's perspective
You'll see how the rest of this is undeniable
Hold out for June, it brings new season
Vision is clear, your mind revealing
Pressing the flower in the page
Forever kept, a memory made
Now you're so sure, you're always leading
All the same words now bring new meaning
I can hear you and I know you're singing
"I'm here you know I'll always remind you."
Lovely one
Four leaf luck
Skilled hands built you up
Hold out for June, it brings new season
Vision is clear, your mind revealing
Pressing the flower in the page
Forever kept, a memory made
Now you're so sure, you're always leading
All the same words now bring new meaning
I can hear you and I know you're singing
"I'm here you know I'll always remind you."
"I'm here you know I'll always remind you."
no fucking way you did tigers jaw, hell yes thank you
ugh, amazing. their voices are so nice together.
I have big ears too man
Jacob Wright i can relate too
Jacob Wright Big ear gang
Better to hear the music with
HAHA
Me too
their voices are bright and clean. nice thing to hear
tigers jaw is at their best with just ben & brianna writing songs imo. loved this set!
whats left of the band, is still just as special
This is incredible. I've been listening to this album over and over, such a bookend to charmer and yet so sad in a new way. These lyrics capture so much in simple but beautiful words - unpretentious and humble, yet bleeding hope into kids and adults on the margins of giving up. These days its hard not to feel alone.
This made me wanna cry!! Thank you
Jade Rosales awww! Thank you Jade. That is very kind of you to say. Keep goin strong!
ADiamondQuartz beautiful comment. First time I’ve typed that on UA-cam.
well spoken, the days of simple, intimate connections are rare. Now taken over by technology, in my opinion
J Agreed. There’s just so much distraction and apathy.
Went to their recent Pittsburgh show on a whim, no idea who they were at the time; they are great! I listen to metal, but I find it refreshing to step out into other genres every once in a while.
Same, I've been venturing outside heavy music a lot in the last few weeks and spin is one of the very best non-heavy records I've found so far
The best tiny desk I will take no arguments
I love this band. June is a fantastic song.
I think this band has such a great grasp of emotional and honest songwriting. This is their best record to date. So happy to be able to experience their output.
Definitely think this album was made to be performed live acoustically
ethan avrigean right?! sounds great both ways!
Key to good song writing is to start off acoustically. Start it off naturally.
i feel like all the songs were probably written with just acoustic guitar but recorded with electric
I can only listen to it acoustically, and it is truly one of their best albums they've ever made when they play it acoustic I think. I dunno why, but the only studio stuff I can listen to is their self-titled and all the lo-fi stuff before it. there is something more intimate about how it is bare-bones.
Fun fact, there is an acoustic guitar layer going on pretty much every song of spin, so this figures
have watched this at least 50 times. gets better ever time.

This will always be one of my favorite TDCs. Always have Tigers Jaw in my rotation, new or old, always great
it really wouldn't be tigers jaw without a twin peaks reference thrown in somewhere, god I love this band lol
"June" is stuck in my head! Beautiful tune :)

it’s my favorite by them🤍

I can say June acoustic is my favorite song in the world.

I'm so obsessed with these guys right now
this whole video is so soothing, i will never get tired of it. theyve already been so successful but i hope tigers jaw gets even more recognition, they have such a unique sound.
I am so glad these guys are on Tiny Desk, they have been around for a while now and definitely deserve to shine a bit in the spotlight to perhaps bring in some new fans to enjoy their new stuff as well as discover their superb previous albums!
Window had me in tears really hit home
now here is some quality music, very good thank you to all involved for blessing the world with this
My favorite band from my teenage years. You guys rock!
I mean I love their new album... but this acoustic set is perfection. So stoked for their show in Orlando!
the one band that can get me in tears instantly. Love you guys
This was unbelievable. The two of them are phenomenal performers. It's taken so long for this video to make it's way to the channel, and I was thoroughly impressed
Love Tigers Jaw. So awesome to see them here
Damn! This blew me away. Amazing music here.
"I feel like I know her but sometimes my arms bend back." -LP

I ADORE this video.
I love this band. My friend had me listen to them and I fell in love with the Spin album. I went to see them live and they were amazing. Hope they come back to philly again🤘🏼😁
This was so golden
Why is it that every time tiny desk puts on an artist with a "mainstream" sound 80 percent of the comments are just trashing the artist and NPR? I mean if you guys want to listen to death metal polka music or death grips that's fine. However, just because an artist/band sounds more "mainstream" doesn't mean they are less talented or not worth listening too. I think the tiny desk is a fantastic program and just because you don't like the acts they have on due to their "mainstream" sound shouldn't really be an excuse to get in the comments and just trash NPR and everyone else who enjoys this kinda music. It's such a counterproductive stance to have.
thetennispro5 couldn't have said it better if i tried
Mainstream means generic music anyone can listen to by turning on the radio.
To many people, mainstream DOES mean they are less talented and not worth listening to.
Compare this performance to the Penguin Club performance. The penguin club performance was filled with complex music and many musicians working together to create something beautiful.
This performance contained songs that had simple single-voice melodies, over a couple chords repeated, with constant 3rd harmonies. BORING
Aside from that, this is what the comment section is for.
Stop telling other people what to think. i.e. fuck off.
Today I learned Tigers Jaw is "mainstream" lul
stop telling people not to tell people what to think. those people are inured to your concern. now go wash the dog...
Nick Knuckle At no point in my comment did I tell anyone what to think. You don't have to like the music that NPR has on here. Music is subjective as an art form and as a result not everyone is going to like every type of music. Admittedly, I don't enjoy every artist that's featured on this channel. That being said, I don't go into the comment section and trash the artist and the people who enjoy said artist. Like I said in my original post, that kinda comment is just really counterproductive and makes people who make those comments come off as music snobs that can't appreciate anything that's not music in 4/4 time with a basic chord structure. When last I checked some of the most influential and respected artists of all time (Dylan, The Beatles, Nirvana) weren't making music with polyrhythms in 6/8 time.
Their voices together though. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is actually really good. I haven’t listened to them much since 60% of the band left. I always loved Adams voice so i guess i just didn’t think i would be into it. This is great though, just a little different.
So interesting to see where Adam came from behind before joining up with GBC. Kinda would like to see him still with these guys. His voice would fit these lyrics pretty well
I LOVE THEM SO MUCH
10 seconds in reminds me of funeral for a friend... oh the memories
i love love love tigers jaw
These harmonies make my heart beat a little faster, in a good way. 👌
Came here because I've got a Tiger's Jaw succulent in my window, stayed because it was nice to listen to.
So cool seeing them here. ♥︎
