She used to play on the streets of Melbourne a few years ago when only a handful of people knew about her. The first time i have heard her play "Notion" and i literally saw crowds of people getting around and staring in silence, crossing the streets and getting off trams to stop and listen. People looking at each other in disbelief. i got to work late to stop and listen. I can only describe the experience of stumbling across such an amazing experience as meeting God's particles floating through space. Unreal

Probably they just get the master recording from the mics/amps running through a computer before being. All electric instruments have input > output w/ simultaneous ability to capture. Each instrument is captured seperately and I'm sure someone in production gets the levels of everything right or just the same as they use at the location. Applause is probably just picked up from mic. Thats my guess Anyway. It's either that or those big mic drop down things you see on movie sets.
Its like a lesbian awakening watching this. Shes so sexy. And not just physically, but spiritually.... The joy in her smile, the skill in her mind and body. She has SOUL
I'm so glad modern media platforms are allowing these independent, talented artists. I've met a few of these types in my lifetime in music and they either don't do well in bands or they just end up limiting their creativity in traditional band environments. I'm glad artists like these are finally getting the outlet they deserve.
The thing is that the majority of people is like being brainwashed by the nonsene mainstream music wich is produced nowdays. They just totally are not ''open'' for music like this, well atleast that is my observation from it. I am so glad i came across this Girl since 2 days ago, it was like a gift for my mind and soul !
@Maxwell Gill I agree with you. If someone cannot do well in band, it has little to do with their musical skills & more about the attitude. Being independent doesn't mean one is better or more creative than others. I'm not saying anything about Tash here, but this comparison does not make any sense.
That's why I love tiny desk. It's where I saw Kate Tempest for the first time. I saw an interview with Tash on Facebook. I immediately looked for her on tiny desk. I'm so glad I did. She's amazing.
WHEN I SAY THE BEST CONCERT OF MY LIFE MAN!!! YOU JUST HAD TO BE IN THE ROOM TO Witness her play her voice!! ATL GAVE TASH HER FLOWERS 100 x OVER ! THE ENERGY IN THAT ROOM MAN WAS F*CKING ELECTRIFYING !!! I honestly cried man I got to smoke 🍃 💨 one to the VERY FIRST SONG(Jungle) I heard by TASH! When I say IT WAS A VIBE MAN!!! Crazy because the very first time I heard her I was higher than a giraffe p***y 😅. Overall outstanding show and chefs kiss
That’s awesome that you’re actually open to hearing her music out and being open to listening to other genres. I’ve had partners who refused to listen to anything besides their chosen preference...and it wasn’t like I was sharing something downright silly 😛 props to you.
Just saw her live and I’ve seen hundreds of shows and I am at a loss for words. Out of body experience wth just happened. Thanks for taking me so fast through the universe of emotion I’m not even sure I exist right now
I always wish they would turn the cameras around for two seconds to show us how the audience is experiencing this. I can only imagine if I'm stunned and in tears watching this on my phone, the people there must be incapacitated with emotion. Tash is phenomenal.
They do in a lot of these and it seems they draw the audience from people who dont listen to that person much, I'll be frickin jamming and the audience is just standing there aha. Might just be the proximity or something though.
I've been homeless for about a year now, and every single night I listen to this it reminds me that music is the only important thing that humans do, and it's the most beautiful thing we can do. We belong to nature
After climbing Machu Picchu, I sat down in front of the mountains and played notion in my headphones, i was the most magical moment of my life, crazy energy
Sounds wonderful! That's also on the top of my bucket list, but with Nepal instead of Peru. Someday I want to take the Inca trail as well, but Nepal is top priority. Hope you will have many more magical moments like that 💜
I saw her live in Cape Town, South Africa at a festival called Rocking The Daisies. After that festival I fell into a deep depression and it's only now, 3 years later that I can listen to her again without being triggered. She holds a special space in my heart and so does her music.
Yees, I found her some years ago in England when I was having a pretty hard time as well, and to this day she and her music make me tear up in a healing way 🌄💜
I like how she apologizes for us "having to hear this song all the time" then proceeds to play a masterpiece that tears my soul to pieces then carefully and at the same time beautifully sews it all back together. she is so fucking amazing to me
She is saying she apologizes to the person she was having difficulties with when she wrote this song. I think she is saying sorry that you have to keep hearing this song and be reminded of our hard times...
i think you are , you are just trapped in your mind and think that you dont have time or whatsoever to not do it. be it anything from traveling the world to a dirthy dancer :)
she made me cry.... not just because of how raw this is... but because I now see how much I have neglected my talent for music. her expression is so free and she cares less about what others think. .. why have I restricted myself so much????.... fuck man.... that was just.... vulnerable.
This is what music is really about. Music isn't about going up there to make people like you. It's about going up there and showing people HOW MUCH you love what you do, and in turn they love you for it.
Was sitting in a bar last week listening to the bartender's playlist and heard about 17 seconds of a song before I Shazammed it ... Two songs later, another 15 second Shazamm. Both Tash. ... And here I am vibing to the best Tiny Desk concert I've ever bloody heard. What a staggering talent.
or... like other talented artists/actors/comedians/musicians, she most likely exaggerates her natural tendencies. You don't think Mick Jagger danced at his wedding like that? Do you?
I have never ever seen anyone be this in tune with every sound and instrument around them. The music literally comes out through her! You can see it in her movements and expression's.. dude, I'm a better person after this performance
Good lord the memories and feeling this set brings back is incredible. We instantly feel in live with her music, let alone the chemistry that was exchanged was intense. Being 36yo and 15yrs of marriage 4 kiddos that night we first listened to this together was beyond euphori, it was like soulmates meeting all over again. Jesus….we have a broad spectrum of music but this women delivers a emotional prosody with her euphonious voice that had my wife and I crying and a feeling all the feelings. I have never had a spiritual experience but we agree this triggered something that brought us closer together at our weakest point. Music has its ways of healing but this set took it to a very personal level and as cliche as it sounds will now remain our sad happy confused forever after if it ends live song. Tash your amazing and I wish we could have attended you sold our show at red rocks. Don’t stop creating beautiful music
I saw her live in a little venue and I swear out of all of the concerts I’ve been to, she is the most visceral and enchanting artist you’ll ever have the chance of coexisting with. Her music is otherworldly and it really takes you to a place not many can transcend you to. the way she shreds and completely immerses herself into all of it, it’s unreal. she deserves all of the success i know she will receive.
the first time i noticed her was when i traveled to AUS and while walking around Melbourne CBD I heard a hipnotic sound. she was playing on the street in frunt of H&M and ahad a cardboard sign saying "Tash Sultana" so I wrote it down and looked it up later. a couple of years later she droped out and album and started touring! so so happy she got noticed! chills
She uploaded her stuff to Triple J Unearthed.. if you were here long enough it is the radio station most young people listen to.. It just went freaking crazy after that. She makes me cry with absolute joy when I watch her .. her honest and real approach and just the charisma of truth just drips off of her. She is at present selling out around the world.. I cant wait to see her live .. I simply cant wait.
Jesus Christ! I've never heard of this artist and this is only the second vid of her I've seen. Just when I think music is dead I see talent like this. She is on FIRE! Much respect for that insane level of talent, passion, rawness, angst, everything.
and here's another thing... I don't think I've ever seen or heard anything like her. So, she's doing her own thing, her own sound, her own tone. Originality, in the truest sense. Watching her negotiate that 12 string w/ that powerful song was an experience. I gotta find a way to see her show live someday!
Absolutely. Everything is sound. Energy and frequencies make up everything in the universe. Everything vibrates with harmonic frequencies. In the beginning was sound. The word, the big bang, the ohm or whatever you want to call it was a sound. Our voices are some of the most powerful and dynamic sound machines known. Most just don't know how to connect to it. She's apparently very much tuned in.
Watching her build a song from scratch is fascinating every single time, no matter how many times I see it happen. Just wonderful artistry, and I'm glad to be alive at the time time and able to enjoy stuff like this thanks to the power of UA-cam. What a time to be alive.
You're saving my soul today. Just found out my husband cheated all 9 years. We have two little girls and a 6 month old son. He left. I know I'll be ok. Music heals.
Nice to see modern guitarists having that much fun with their pedalboard. Holy shit she's all over the place, I love it. You can watch her make all these little adjustments with her knobs and her feet constantly kicking on and off effects, she's obsessed with her tone. Best click I've made all month!
I've been in the labor room for 18 hours with my sister and she said "Play me that one lady you listen to when you photo edit." I said "Tash Sultana?" This was her music of choice to listen to relax ♡
Lol that's great and funny cause I listen to this too when I edit my pictures. Like 3K pictures/gig or even per day (I'm a photojournalist...) this helps xD
when you unlock your greatest gifts...and pour your soul into who you really are...you realize your supreme and discover your Tash Sultana. Tash Sultana is the highest level of existence in the human form.
My brain almost can't handle the mixture of beauty, insanity, passion.... But the sound gives gives me just enough distance to handle reality... This isn't just art, it's medicine. Oh my
This was incredible to watch. I'm convinced she has figured out how to separate her soul from her body and shoot it into you through her guitar. One simply does not just "listen" to this....this was an experience
Although I don't doubt your intention to be half funny and half truthful, I actually think you've summed her up in one single statement. The force is definitely strong with this one.
NPR I would happily buy this on a a vinyl. As well as many others that you have posted I'm sure I'm not the only one. How many thumbs up are below to support?
So many of these performances I prefer to the studio recordings. There's an intimacy captured in these videos that get boiled out of far too many studio sessions.
I can’t lie, despite “the best” being entirely subjective, I will say this is my personal favourite Tiny Desk ever; even to this day after 5 years. This introduction to Tash changed my life so many years ago, and after experiencing them three times in three different countries, I can’t deny, they are the best live act I have ever seen. They have done so much for me which they will never know but I felt compelled to put it into words and share it in the hopes there may be others who feel similar. We are utterly blessed to have lived in the same time as Tash Sultana. As they have said; “If I'm in a good headspace, then it doesn't matter which direction things go.”
I just saw them live in Hollywood for the first time. It was amazing. Hands down the best musical, possibly the best experience I ever had in my entire life. Tash Sultana came out and I immediately started to cry. And I was like what’s up with that? And then I just cried the entire time. It was like I cried for every time I couldn’t and for every time I couldn’t feel or wouldn’t let myself.
I only discovered Tash a few days ago, thanks to discovery weekly list on Spotify and I'm totally obsessed. I've listened to only her music for the last few days and cannot understand how her music isn't being played everywhere right now. This is what we need...at least my soul does.
I'm 6 minutes into this video. I was watching Pigeon Pit's performance, and this came on after. I've never heard Tash Sultana's music before, but my entire body is covered in goosebumps since hearing the first note. I can't wait to hear more.
I love Tash because it is absolutely impossible to sing to her live music. Is so unpredictable. She is so different than other artists I've heard. She's not afraid. She makes me feel free.
I wish she didn't feel the need to apologise for something so beautiful. I'd pay her to play notion for me everyday everywhere all the time. What a miracle.
Eman Eldeeb I completely agree she should make no apologies for this version on Notion I could literally cry watching her perform this. Absolutely soul baring.
I remember seeing Tash busking on the streets in Melbourne, Australia, years ago....and thought....wow...she's amazingly talented, and she will be going places. So glad to see her making it in other countries. She will only get better with time. Can't wait to see that.....
I stumbled across Tash about 5 years ago now randomly while tripping and the sheer amount of passion, emotion and talent conveyed absolutely moved my soul. It’s been a couple years since listening and returning to this and her other works is truly incredible. Much love Tash from one of many 💚
To be honest I had chills from the beginning to the end... I'm a MAN, a VETERAN and I felt her pain.. felt her SOUL.. I can't get over her. I need this as a song...
Came back to this today, 3 weeks after I first experienced it and 2 weeks after my 16 year old son had a brain aneurysm resulting in a stroke... I can't put into words the awe I was in when I first saw this, nor the immense comfort it gave me today.. it's unexplainable and from the bottom of my weary, tired heart, Tash, I hope you somehow read these comments and know how deeply you have touched the lives of those blessed enough to come across your illuminated splendor. Eternal gratitude for offering me such solace within such crippling desperation.
Saw tash when she had 10k followers on instagram at a pub and when she did the guitar solo in notion the whole pub stood still in awe watching.. was crazy
@@vidanahy2565 i knew that about tash but i have my own opinions re gender pronouns. please let's not dissect that topic and just enjoy the music and energy we are all grateful to be a witness of :)
if she doesn't give you chills, nothing will... I've been passionate about music for a long long time - saw Led Zepp in Toronto, spent 1 1/2 hours on stage with the Dead and The Airplane - at the same time (they were jamming), but never have I experienced such a powerfully moving package of pure musical talent.
She is pure magic..part of the beauty of creation..when the universe was created and the angels sang for joy it can't have sounded any better! Check out Ren..he is the male equivalent
Imagine a performance like this bring judged in a talent contest. They wouldve told her to be something else. Its so nice to hear and watch authenticity unfolding through a performance as intimate as this
She is so full of life inside her. I have similar expressions when I hear good music on big speakers. I dont give a damn what somebody is going to think about me, just close my eyes and dance sometimes I notice that my energy is contagious and people look at me and come closer and start to dance with me. Love those moments
Discovering her on youtube, then seeing her on Rock Werchter early on the day was awesome ! She made the whole crowd move (which is incredible as one of the first acts of the day ! She was by far one of the best acts of the day
Most definitely. I feel like I'm on some type of acid spiraling in the same direction over and over.. (in a good way because I've listened to this entire clip for 2 hours!!!!!
Saw her play live last weekend at Lowlands, she was by far the best artist there.. Unbelievable passion and joy while playing her music. She played guitar, piano, trumpet, pan flute (beatboxing on it) and did even more.. Amazing
Tycho H Yeahhh I was there and I had tears in my eyes the whole time, the feels of her pouring her heart and soul out. This is amazing, but live is even more meshmerizing. I just walked blankly for 30mins trying to process what I just had experienced... ♡
I’ve seen her over a dozen times live mainly at Red Rocks.. the most unbelievable concert you can possibly watch. Watching her build each song live in front of you in real time is an emotional roller coaster

Yeah, I've watched a ton of her performances and this has the absolute best mixing
@Josh Rogosin, well done!
Woah and when the vocals come in I was like best ever
yeah insane! you should also listen to COLORS SHOW recordings - all the songs sound so good

@Maxwell Gill Where are her bandmates????
@@prosnowboarder3 You don't get the point
@Maxwell Gill I agree with you. If someone cannot do well in band, it has little to do with their musical skills & more about the attitude. Being independent doesn't mean one is better or more creative than others. I'm not saying anything about Tash here, but this comparison does not make any sense.

had a similaar experience ive never had that before except when I saw her live.
I always wish they would turn the cameras around for two seconds to show us how the audience is experiencing this. I can only imagine if I'm stunned and in tears watching this on my phone, the people there must be incapacitated with emotion. Tash is phenomenal.
I watched her in London a few years ago and I was most certainly incapacitated with emotion.

I saw her live in Cape Town, South Africa at a festival called Rocking The Daisies. After that festival I fell into a deep depression and it's only now, 3 years later that I can listen to her again without being triggered. She holds a special space in my heart and so does her music.
I'm happy you're here.
Yees, I found her some years ago in England when I was having a pretty hard time as well, and to this day she and her music make me tear up in a healing way 🌄💜
I like how she apologizes for us "having to hear this song all the time" then proceeds to play a masterpiece that tears my soul to pieces then carefully and at the same time beautifully sews it all back together. she is so fucking amazing to me
Literally teared up just from the instrumentals on that 2nd song. I felt it and she didn't even have to speak.
She is saying she apologizes to the person she was having difficulties with when she wrote this song. I think she is saying sorry that you have to keep hearing this song and be reminded of our hard times...
I teared up a bit at the accuracy of this comment ❤
Tash Sultana is nonbinary, and uses they/them pronouns.

For her good and ours, let's hope it won't do her in.
The only other live performance I've seen in recent years to match Tash's has to be Ibeyi. Check them out if you don't know them.
.
Loved the expressive way you described her....excellent choice of words! The phenomena that is Tash Sultana was on full display...
After reading the first eight words I thought she was homeless. Stupid me.
the first time i noticed her was when i traveled to AUS and while walking around Melbourne CBD I heard a hipnotic sound. she was playing on the street in frunt of H&M and ahad a cardboard sign saying "Tash Sultana" so I wrote it down and looked it up later. a couple of years later she droped out and album and started touring! so so happy she got noticed! chills
natalie w: you are blessed to have been graced to hear/see her busk! She’s a gem
natalie w that's amazing you experience that!
So rad...!
Your ship lucky. Now my only dream is to see her in concert. She's the best 😊
Ronnie Williams she is the best! Go see her live..its tears of joy and shivers down your spine
Never, ever say or think that music is dead. There's just so damn much talent out there. Music is more alive every single day.
Ronnie Williams anyone who thinks music is dead isn't paying attention to the right artists.
If you think music is dead is because you haven't explored enough or because you are closed to a new type of music.
Five years later still coming back to this... so so so good, tingles my heart!
This girl is an absolute trip! Who can help but get totally lost in her talent! She is phenomenal! Her music is not a song, its a freaking experience!
What language is she singing in, Columbian?
She isn't a musician, she literally IS music.. what a beautiful thing to witness 👌🏽

Absolutely. Everything is sound. Energy and frequencies make up everything in the universe. Everything vibrates with harmonic frequencies. In the beginning was sound.
