but its still true that nepotism is a big factor in success.
i worked for a big building developer. it was started by the old dad, and he grew it and then all his kids came up in the business and one of the son's became the CEO.
very common across that industry and many other industries.
you may say so what - but just think of all the talented and hard working people that simply won't have a shot because they aren't in the family.
anywho, i'm maybe a little bitter yet at the same time i don't dwell on it and i have found success in life.
but we should not be ignorant to this variable of nepotism, we should be aware since it can affect one's career choices.
for example, do you think a kid from the midwest could move to hollywood and make it big in the film industry? its possible, but most try and it's too hard, many "glass ceilings". But a kid who's parents are in the industry already will bascially have a very easy route into the industry.
so, turn back around midwest kid. and go into a new industry like AI. this is where nepotism is a non factor. and many other industries, so and i'm fine with it.

Agreed, I have an 350 sq ft room over my garage that I want to redo, and this space looks bigger than it, especially with the bathroom.

Happy Fathers Day to her dad and all the other awesome dads that hold it down. My dad can be difficult to work with sometimes but I know if he physically could right now, he’d make repairs for me as well.

What a beautiful apartment. This young lady has done everything possible to ensure a bright and happy environment to stoke her creative juices. To harness so much light in a city that is so often bleak and overcast, is a stunning achievement. Anyone could do this with an unlimited budget and scores of professional helpers. She did this on a tight budget and with one helper. I would love to have her do my apartment as her personality would mesh well with mine even though her style is different than mine. I could almost guarantee that I would love what Tess could create in my space.

You think this is a DIY? It's called: I've got enough money and maybe sponsors to buy what I want and do major renovations. Yeah I painted my bed frame. Oh, dad did all the work which would have cost a fortune in contractor fees. Please this isn't diy

Your apartment is beautiful. I love the mix of mid century, vintage, and modern vibes. I love to decorate and started decorating when I was a girl with my first project being my doll houses. I asked for doll houses and furniture for Christmas and I made sure to take good care of them because my dad couldn't always afford to buy them yearly. I had three and I would save my money and buy furniture for the houses and would take the furniture from one and put it in the other to see how it would look in there. I truly appreciate this video as well as the personal touches that you gave it. The white really brightens up the space and makes it look like the sun is shining even on a cloudy day. Job well done and dad is wonderful!

Wow. Love the attention to detail, color palette and creativity. You can feel how much you care about where you live and it is so inspiring. You were also lucky to have the kitchen be separate, there's a large closet and an entryway AND outdoor space. These factors make all the difference to small studio spaces. I've seen so many studios in New York where everything is just one big room. Good for you!
Watching from England - was just shocked the parquet was ripped up. I get it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but it still surprised me.
That broke my heart. I love her design but no way would I have touched that floor.
It might have been cheap parquet that didn't age well. I had a condo once where the previous owner had sanded it down to almost nothing in some areas, and stained very amateurishly in others. We couldn't salvage it.

This is a beautiful home, for the square footage I loved how every space was utilised in a way that is functional and yet allows so much space. The lighting is impeccable and just airy. Wow every piece complements each other. God bless your Dad indeed, that ceiling looked like such a challenge.

Well done girl!! It looks fantastic!! I think my fav aspect of the renovation is that fact that a lot of white was used, but it does NOT feel sterile or cold. Great usage of greenery, accent colors and beautiful decor to really warm the space. The only thing that made me cringe were the scratch marks on the gray sofa...please tell me that wasn't from the cat😭😭😭
This is amazing. I just got my first place and its really dated and needs a lot of work. . I think I never really noticed how much security my childhood home gave me living with my parents. I had a fair amount of big traumas in my life and sitting in that new apartment felt like it was choking me . I feel so anxious being there, my body kind of went into a fight of flight mode .Even tough the place is mine it doesn't feel like its mine. It feels so alien to me. I love diy's and I have big plans for it to make it homey as quickly as I can because I didn't bring any furniture with me since they are in terrible shape.
My reno will be painting the walls, wrapping kitchen cabinets in white shiny foil, changing the door/ cabinet knobs to gold, doing a tile backsplash wrap on the ugly tiles, probably will do a vynil wood flooring in the future as well and bringing as much plants as possible. The bedroom and the bathroom/ toilet room will need the most work. It needs everything, tile painting, bathtub painting, sinkand vanity changes. . and my cat!!
I appreciate your transparency. I'll be moving soon and had never thought about that feeling "abandon" that might be experienced after living under the comfort of your parent's roof for so long. I'm wishing you the best! Take your time to place pieces in your space that make you feel secure, good, and confident! It might take a while to curate those pieces, but it'll be well worth it. And a good baby step would be to fill the space with candles - it's a great mood-setter + makes the place smell amazing (even if it doesn't quite look the way you want)!

Loved this apt.!!! Wish you would do more of these. Most of us I think, live in much smaller spaces then you usually show, and though I love them all...I would like just a little more 'reality' from time to time.
She did an amazing job with it! I'm looking at condos and I want one where I will be able to put my personality into it. I already told my dad that he will be helping with the floor, bathroom
