“I don’t give a shit if you’re vegan or not” is probably my favorite phrase I’ve heard in awhile, I don’t care what the food is if it tastes good I’m eating it!
I just finished making your kimchi recipe. GREAT instructions, easy to follow. Made two substitutions, maple syrup for the plum syrup and store-bought vegan fish sauce. Next time I make it hopefully I'll have the plum syrup and ill also make your vegan fish sauce. It still came out delicious!! I can't wait until it's fermented the 4 days. I have made several different kimchi recipes. Yours hands down is the best!! Thank You!!
Joanne, thank you for sharing your culture with us. I think food is a love language for so many of us so learning about other people's food cultures is so intimate in my opinion. Im gonna try this but im gonna use Savoy cabbage instead of napa, it's got that iconic wrinkly texture but i can buy it locally grown instead of having napa shipped halfway across the planet.
Actually, I mention in the recipe that you can try using a different cabbage! Just watch out for the visual/taste cues--I'm thinking savoy cabbage will require far less time to get salty and pickled!
I am making kimchi today (from a recipe that I have followed several times) so I naturally went looking for some "new" videos and found yours. I love it!! It reminds me of a cookbook I have called "Thug Kitchen". The same superb use of language. For that you gain a new subscriber. You go, gitrl!
Joanne!!!! Fooooo kkkk i made your vegan kimchi! This is the best kimchi I ever tasted in Europe! Never been to Korea to taste the original one BUT it doesn’t matter because I have this recipe now! My asian market better have a good membership policy cause imma gonna be a frequent now! ❤ thank you for this recipe you made me super super happy! I ❤KIMCHI!!!!!
I love my Plum Syrup, if you don't have it GET IT. It's a great investment. I use it for my Kimchi as well as Bulgogi marinade and a simple add it to hot water for a tea. Thank you for this recipe, I love trying all the different ways to make Kimchi
I’m not a fan of regular sour cabbage kimchi, but I’ll try your vegan version to see if it hits the spot for me. Fresh cucumber kimchi, daikon kimchi, and green onion kimchi totally opened the world of lightly fermented versions to me, and I really love making and eating them. I hope your recipe does the same for me.
Making kimchi is like a little workout. But I legitimately believe you when you said this is the best kimchi you've ever had. I hadn't heard of plum sauce before. But I found an Asian store in a city that's a hour away that I love to go to. I watched someone make vegan lasagna with dried shiitaki mushrooms and walnuts. Since I specifically go there for Natto and gochugaru (the latter is for the spiral cucumbers that I enjoy). I was delighted that they also have dried shiitake mushrooms and a whole produce section that I plan on exploring next. Making your kimchi would be cool.
best reason EVER "Because my mom told me to" 🥰 What would you add for someone that LOVES spice heat? Any particular dried pepper? Would something like habanero work?
My teenager and I have made and eaten so much geotjeori in the past couple of months. How did we live without it before? I think I'm ready to make the fermented kimchi now.
Hi I’m hoping you see this I seen you one day while you were out to lunch I wanted to say hi but I was too scared and I didn’t want to bug you it was nice to see you
After leaving out for a day and then few days in fridge, do we still have to worry about stuff growing that shouldn't? Just wondering bcz we have made some in one of those air tight kimchee containers and it is a pain to open and close and keep clean everytime you want to eat some. Can we just take it out and put in loosely packed jar?
🤣🤣🤣 so aggressive , this is not you, nonetheless I love the vibe. the explanation is very detailed. First time I did , U failed miserabely, I got scared to make second time. Now I want to try again. Thank you so much Joanna 🥰❤️💯
It is not her job to parent your children. Some of the topics on her channel are not appropriate for children in the first place, so that makes *you* the weirdo for leaving this comment.
Hi Amy! I’ve been thinking about this comment a lot and I think perhaps the swearing doesn’t suit the person you think I am-which is partially my fault. I wanted to start sharing more sides to my personality and the truth is, I have a potty mouth 🙈🙊 I think that vulgarity + intelligence + class can coexist and I like to think I bring that mix in who I am. That said: I don’t want you to stop watching with your kids!! I will start bleeping out excessive cursing going forward!
@@TheKoreanVegan Thank you. Here’s the way I see it. You are MORE SALABLE for viewership when you don’t swear. No one is going to stop watching you because you DON’T swear. As a business woman, it just makes better sense to forego the unnecessary language.

Hard work but Kimchi is SO worth it. Love your delivery 😂
could not agree more!!

So happy to find this! I'm allergic to shellfish, so kimchi that I can eat is difficult.

I’ve been making your fishy sauce for several years. Thanks so much for sharing the recipe.
I think it's easy and fast and delicious too
Looks yummy!!
Omg i can't wait to make this yum
Hi I’m hoping you see this I seen you one day while you were out to lunch I wanted to say hi but I was too scared and I didn’t want to bug you it was nice to see you
What are the advantages of precutting the cabbage vs salting each layer individually? Is it just to save time?
What is gochugaru?
How can I make it at home?
That looks so God damn good, holy shit!
looks good, couldn't find the fishy sauce recipe!!
😍😍😍😍

Veg fish sauce recipe please
Where can i get a bowl that big??
❤❤❤
Honest question because i generally don't know. What makes"regular" kimchi not vegan?
Fishsauce!!
@@mara2914 thankyou, that makes sense.

But I actually do give a shit cause wow, thank you 😂😂
Fuck yeah.
all the people mad about the swearing would not last a second working at a restaurant.
But need the vegan fish sauce recipe, it is nowhere in the description 😅
Kimchi is non-vegan?
yes, it contains fish sauce and shrimp
You know the word "shit" doesn't really add to your video...
just make the food... the shit will come in the end anyway...
The problem is it doesn't look safe for people with high blood pressure due to the salt ....
You feelin' ANGRY, Joanne? 😡
Not givin a shit is the opposite of feelin angry! :)
I COME Here From UA-cam To See Is This Channel Fake Or True 🤣🤣😂
Stop cussing around food it is disrespectful to God and blessings some people cant even eat...

they will hear much worse things on the playground, even when they are young. there's nothing wrong with swearing its a healthy way to express emotion
