I am a simple man. I get that Mark Bone uploaded notification and then come to the video for viewing
The way UA-cam kills such a valuable videos is beyond me 🙈
I’m trying to learn everything I can for cinematography the last 3 years and I follow some awesome channels but this one is just gold !
Mark, If you feel underrated from UA-cam there is something important you need to have always in your mind !
Your work here changes life’s and the endless hours of work you spend for those tutorials and free help worth much more then you can even imagine!
I just found you few weeks ago and watch 2-3 videos of your per day and I have learn more then the last 3 years and I feel more motivated then ever !
Thank you for everything you do for us 🍻
Wow. Thank you for this. So appreciate it. Gonna Screen shot this comment ♥️🙏🏻
@@markbone I couldn’t agree more. Your videos always leave me with motivation and knowledge I didn’t have before watching it and tons of inspiration to become a better filmmaker. To me, this is the standard of quality docu filmmaking. Thanks for all your effort and hard work Mark!
Every time I watch one of your videos going “yeah I know what he’s about to say” I’m always left being like learning so much. Always amazing content
😂 I love it’ keeping you on your toes
Great video Mark! Thanks hanks for always dropping some knowledge!
Thank you for this. Very Helpful.
Amazing lesson Mark, thank you !
Thanks Mark, you keep delivering this gold just at the right time! 10% crew!!
For commercial work: “The story is a question and we journey towards the answer”. That’s deep and really true. Awesome video. Thanks for this!
"Story is a character who wants something, and we follow their journey." -- If this isn't the god damn essence of every good everything ever made... 👏
Thanks Mark. Great tips!
the value on this 8minute video is incredible! thank you mark!
Great video, Thank you! And best looking set you've ever done for your videos, I think
Great tips as usual Mark! Love those 2:
- be guided by the goal and intention of the scene more than by the shot list
- know the desire of the subject as a guide on what to shoot - Brilliant!!
Another banger video! Always appreciate you taking the time to share some of your knowledge 👌
My pleasure brother
Rules are important. Helping us to get where we need to be.. . loved it 🔥🔥
Mate that’s some wise points of contact between creator and audience you’ve raised ,always enlightening bro thanks heaps cheers
I love Anker. Got my wires, adapters and even earbuds. Just received my earbuds today
Thanks Mark for sharing this valuable knowledge!
Gold so much gold! Thanks for taking the time to make this video
Thank you Mark. You are amazing teacher.
Mark you are a legend. I love this!!
Favorite channel by far
Thanks mate
Nice job ! Thx a lot Mark for all of your work on your channel
Uncertainty = currency. Very simple but effective point!
such good tips, thanks mark.
I don't need film school .. I have Mark Bone. Yet another exceptional piece of content that teaches. I've had similar conversations with directors on set and many of them (the good ones anyway) say very much the same thing. I think I will watch this once a week to keep reminding myself ...
Loved it. Thank you.
this was refreshing to watch!
Thank you so much!
Much love from Sierra Leone west
I'm a big fan
Your teachings helps a lot
Really digging your work lately. It’s been incredibly informative and has definitely helped my filmmaking. Keep up the good work.
Thank you, so glad it's helping
Love this insight! Applies to so many different genres of film making
🙏🏻 it really does!
Thanks for the tips, man! Great work your doing on this channel!
Thanks Julian!
Seriously Mark, thank you for all the work you put into this channel. I can't thank you enough. You are like my teacher I have never met. Your advice and experience have been paramount in my films I'm currently shooting. Your films have shown me what I want as a creator, to show authentic stories in an artistic way to get people to care about a subject. There is nothing quite so powerful to me as telling stories through films. I'm so thankful I stuck with this passion. In this video you said something I really needed to hear and sparked an idea that will make my film better. Thank you so much man. Cheers!
Bryce! thank you for this brother. So appreciate you taking the time to write it. Go crush some films!
This video is soooo valuable. Love it 🤟
Thank you Mark. Useful tools for me as a person very new to pointing a camera as the stuff my dog and I do on our world 🌎 tour
Mark, you do really deserve a ton of praise for your valuable content. I just got back from an interview shoot and I'm so glad I watched "How to make people comfortable on camera for interviews." the night before I set off on my trip. Initially, the subjects were very nervous and anxious, I was able to engage deeply with them, we gathered fantastic material and the client could not have been happier. Thank you Mark!
So amazing Marcus. Thank you brother for sharing this. So glad it went well
I completely agree with every single tip
Awesome stuff!!!!!!
thanks mate!
This is gold 🧡
Directors... who's your favourite? (doc or live action!)
Nolan and Fincher!
Kubrick, Kurosawa, Scorsese, and Spielberg. Honorable mentions to Bergman, Fincher, and Nolan
@@ryanguidofilms all the heavy hitters, love it
DOC!
James Cameron. Not afraid to delete an expensive scene if it "didn't move the story along".
Mark Bone, this video was amazing! I've just finished a mini doco and the wrestle with the edit was immense.
Your content has really helped guide the process. Subscribed!!!
Here to help! Congrats on the mini doc!
@@markbone Cheers! It's about a group of young adults with Autism who start a coffee business inside their school. Really appreciate how much gold you share on this channel! Way better than film school :)
love it, really helpful!
This was such a valuable piece. Thanks for sharing this! 🙂🤙
🙏🏻🙏🏻
Story is king! Thanks for the reminder! Can't wait for the next video. How long do we have to wait? I'm uncertain 🤣
Absolutely spot on!!
Thanks mate!
Beautiful tips 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤩🤩
Haircut looks awesome Mark!
♥️ thank you! Glad you noticed
So funny man! And so good! Thanks for this!
thanks brother! glad you enjoyed it
Perfect. Thanks for this video. 🙏🏼
Muito bom !
Mark - I really appreciate you and your work. Great tips! I'm just starting out, but already I get it .. story trumps cool. :) Thank you!
Thanks for stopping by Frank!
Thank you Mark ❤️
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂👎👎👎👎
Hey Mark.. a great video as always. Btw I just finished my 1st documentary (I am an amateur). I made some mistakes. But in next ones I will have to take care of all these. But again proudly saying I am a student of AOD. At least I could even start a doc because of AOD. The community is so helpful and believe me there are so many talented people in it.. 🙏
Thanks for this. It definitely made me realize a script I wrote needs some more refining
Never let up on story!
great advice, thank you.
My pleasure!
Gem after gem after gem!! Wow!!
thank you!
You're welcome!
Man that last tip is GOLD
;)
I'm a self taught short documentary filmmaker from Romania and I'm so incredibly thankful for your channel and what I'm learning from you. At the moment I can't afford to join AoD but it's something that's definitely on my list of investments. Thank you for what you're doing. And that B-Roll shot of you while shooting is just... So. Bad. Ass.
Roberto! Thank you for commenting! So glad you’re enjoying the content. Also we do have payment plans for AOD and a big sale when the course launches in September. Most of our students make their money back from new client work within the first few months based on what they learn from the course
Son of God 🔥 🔥 🔥 thank you so much
I appreciate you for taking your time to teaching me I feel blessed 🙌 I need more 😆 love it 😋
Thanks for sharing. Postponing my "all season womens mountain bike film" bs I'm too busy to record it this year as first planned. It needs to be my master piece. I need to have time. I neee all the good stories. Your video here just comfirmed me in postponing is the right choice.
Love it
I just found your account and wow, I’m in shock that I haven’t seen you before! You’re videos are incredibly inspiring! And you are so talented.
You mentioned you went to film school and didn’t feel like you were a great director, looking back would you still recommend going to film school or take the self taught / UA-cam academy way?
Find guys like Mark and follow them
MARK,thanks a lot man!loved it and learned a lot/are u in skill share?
I am not. We have our own with 100’s of videos theartofdocumentary.com
Great stuff once again, sir! I look up to you in my « documentary journey ».
♥️🙏🏻
The hair!!!! Dope!!!!
💇🏻♂️
"And yes there's a camera there, so you know imma filmmaker"..... I haven't even watched the video... Liked it only for the humour! XD
I recently finished my first short documentary film, and I’ve used your channel as a kind of touchstone, if you will, to help guide my filmmaking process. I’ve internalized a great deal of your tips, so when we arrived on set, we just executed the shots for the film. It took me a little over a week to edit it, and I’ve been happy with the results. Thanks again 👊
So glad to hear the channel is helping!
Mark, what’s the 5K display on your left?
Cheers
존경합니다 !!!!!!!!
Excited about your new workshop Mark! So refreshing to see someone like you putting so much work in true filmmaking & directing and not another "silly" channel about comparing gear... or making "coffee" or openning boxes with new knives...😂 (you know what I mean...). Couple of questions, hope you don't mind me asking... 1-The monitor you have on your Sony camera... is it a monitor or also a recorder, and which one you use...? 2- If I want a more "technical "oriented workshop, which one would you think is the better choice, your "docu workshop" or this new one coming up "Director's. workshop...). Thank you! cheers! (I am more into documentaries: outdoor, nature...etc... So I am always looking for new things to learn at thigh/professional/Technical level specially if I will be either 'solo" or with a small crew! ;)
1. Monitor is not a recorder. 2. In terms of technical can you expand? You looking for camera tips and gear related?
@@markbone hey thanks for your answer... you just made the video of the menu changes on the FX3 Sony... and that is what I mean: excellent detailed video on technical aspects ... not exactly gear oriented, but going deep in detail about technical points ... I think as you stated many times, knowing the gear one uses is super important, and though is true brands are different... I think there are universal concepts that apply to any brand/camera: how to read scopes... what is GenLock/Time code how to and when to use it... etc. Sorry I was not more specific before. ;) Also... I received a message from @Mark_Bone1 regarding the FX3 giveaway... is this from you or a BOTT? ;) cheers !
Very good Mark 👍🏻 I make actually a tennis documentary from a former Nr. 1 player in germany 😉 it is a completely independent project. I have no time pressure and consciously take my time with it 🎥 best cinematic greetings from 🇩🇪
Mark a cool video you could do is show how to transition between scenes of a documentary
i have a whole video about this over in theartofdocumentary.com
Hey Mark - Do you have a rule of thumb for how you expose skin tones in camera? I've always been impressed with that in your stuff.
Yeah! I am gonna be doing a video about this!
Quick rule of thumb, I use false colours and always land at 70%
@@markbone exactly what I was looking for. Thanks man
Ouf Number 4 😮💨
🙏🏻
This is great but my real question is how do you hand hold a cinema camera without it being jittery?
the heavier it is, the less jitters
@@markbone gonna turn this C200 into the Sandbag 200 then
damn dude, you start off the video saying something profound!😳...........that's exactly what thought I should do! i guessni have a lot to learn! good video!👍🏾
🙏🏻🙏🏻
Where can we watch the okay asd film?
it's in the festival tour so it's not out yet
Im curious why the AOD is a waitlist? Im guess its interactive? Otherwise, Im ready to go👍
You can move through the course at your own pace but for module 2 we do have an interactive component. If you do need early you can email info@markbone.com but we will have crazy good sales in September
@@markbone Thanks👍
0:15 breaking the fourth wall in the most nonchalant way.
When is that storm chasing documentary coming out tho 👀
hopefully soon!
Others director never went to film school like quentin tarantino those are gifted
3rd!
U look good btw.. (cool)
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Second here!
Like the new haircut
Glad you noticed
DC's Lucifer would approve your tip #5
I am first here 😃👋
T H A N K 🫵🏻
"Don't chase cool shots". Proceeds to show phenomenally beautiful shots obliterating whatever is left of our egos. *Self Esteem Crushing sounds"
haha, not my intention
I think I'm First
My take from this is that good directors always have you wonder about nipples.
😂
Wait… did Mark get a hair cut?
💇🏻♂️💇🏻♂️💇🏻♂️💇🏻♂️
Haircut
I can't stand all these transitions videos on youtube. Transitions and cool effects don't make a good video. Thanks for hammering this point Mark
ummmmm Why you cut your hair?
freedom
@@markbone that’s a great reason. Love your content. I’m making my first documentary this year. You are the motivation. Thank you, freedom
Get a REAL director to teach NOT a poser!
😂
As I could write under each video: mark, I love it. You put complicated things in words, everybody understands. You showed me so much, can’t wait for module 3 AOD 🫶
Love your films. Everyone is inspiring
Thank you Sebastien ♥️🙏🏻
Great tips, thanks Mark!
No problem!
