Unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to use it while I have been in army flight school. When I get back home and start flying on the civilian side again I will give you and update.
I apologize for not doing a follow up yet. Life took me down a road that has had me fully consumed. I'm in the military and I became a Warrant Officer and I am currently in flight school to be a military rotor wing pilot. I have not been able to do anything with my civilian flight train as of late. Hopefully I will get some free time soon and can remedy that.
I have not had a chance to test a phone function, but It does work with audio/mp3 type devices. you can use them like headphones without the jacks being plugged into a radio.
So I picked up and accessory cable with an in line mic and hooked it up to the headset and I was able to use it to make phone calls. I do not think it was using the head set mic at all. I also have yet to test in an airplane. I will let you know how it goes.

They remind me of my old Softcom headsets that I started with 26 years ago.
