Tip number 6) if you have a two channel amp then select your overdrive channel and make this as clean as possible (turn the gain down to 1 and turn the volume up). Run your DS1 into the amps (now clean) OD channel and turn up the dist knob to max on the pedal. Use your guitars volume knob to get a range of clean, crunch and lead sounds. Usually an amps OD channel has a better lower and mid range response which will help give your DS1 that classic warm Marshall type Overdrive/distortion sound and prevent that fizzy, transistor radio sound you get by using a DS1 into a clean, sparkly amp.
This is fantastic advice: Tone at 12 o'clock level at max, distortion at max. Plugged into gain channel as you say. Sounds very good. Gives a nice 90s grunge sound.
I use it with a tube screamer for a classic metal sound. Tube Sreamer with drive on 1 Tone 6 and level full > DS-1 tone 3, gain barely on (1 maybe) level full > Slighly breaking up Marshall, bass 3, mid 2, treble 6.
Versatile, not expensive, good sounding. I love the DS1 . Thanks for the video. Cheers from Brazil. PS - I use it with full dist and the others knob on 12 o'clock. It gives me a good sustain for solos.
Practice matters with this pedal ! Take the time to listen to all the tones, growls, distortion levels, sustain- yes sustain ! Most individuals dont hear it ,but it's there ! And last but not least, it has a small window of Overdrive ! Yeap, try volume 11 o'clock, tone 1 -ish,and distortion at 2:30 -ish !!!! That's what the Girls say is the sweet spot ! If you know what I mean ! Peace !😎✌
I watched reviews on this pedal all morning and was gonna pass until I watched this one, and am buying one first thing this week. Amazing sound you pulled out of this pedal
Excellent video, sir! By your playing style, I wish I were your neighbor. I'd be grabbing my bass and microphone, finding a drummer and knocking on your door. 😉
Am I right that your clean sound is a bit crunchy? All the most convincing demos seem to say this is the way to get the best sounds from the DS-1, that it was designed for cranked power amps on the late 70s-80s. Sounds really good in the fx return too by the way. Got one coming in the mail!
Question: Is it normal to have any volume drop with the ds 1 placed after my overdrive? I'll have the level cranked all the way up and it still feels like the volume drops when the ds 1 is engaged 🤔
When I connect this I get a constant static buzz which is very annoying. Do you know how to get rid of it? Sometimes a Humbucker pickup or certain angle of guitar reduces the noise. Any solution is appreciated
It’s kind of expected with any distortion pedal, but a noise gate or turn your volume off when not playing , just trying to help cause I had same issue
Just bought the DS-1. Have it in front of an OCD, not much point in having both on together, the last pedal (OCD) is dominant, hence warm not bright. If you want bright disortion, just engage the DS-1. Yet to try the DS-1 after the OCD; half expect it will be mushy with both engaged.
@@jas641 Just tried the DS-1 after the OCD; I prefer that set up; works well (both on adds noise). The DS-1 is known to compress the signal, so going through the OCD first boosts the desirable frequencies. The DS-1 then provides the distortion on top (with some compression). DS-1 last = prominent bright distortion. OCD last = prominent warm overdrive.
Here's a little thing to be aware of, in my case at least. It does not respond well to EMG Active pickups (possibly all active pickups) it sounds amazing through all my guitars with passive pickups, but once I plug in my Ibanez with emg 81/85 config it sounds like thumpy garbage lmao.
Hey Sasha. Ansonsten weiter so👍
You need a very good amp for this to sound good, if you have small 30 watts cheap amp youll need a cabsim to make it right watch my videos im using cheap amo
Your vid is really the rigth way to use this pedal i mean many people don't know the pedal has to be with use with a CLEAN amp only to get the sound of what is the pedal itself . Just one thing why not using it with a REAL amp ? Cause even if i understood the purpose of your demo , uses virtuals cabs will never show the real potential of the pedal .
The amp i used is real, just the cabs are virtual. I think the cabinet simulations nowadays are very authentic and sounding way better as if i mic up a speaker in my unprofessional homestudio ;)
@@SRguitar i made a mistake i guess you ll understand , i wanted to say a real amp with "real" cabs" . yeah virtual cabs are ok i ve been a hudge follower on this second way since 18 when it began and it's ok when you re at home and make computing record but i have to say i ve never been satisfied on these things exept having a fractal or the neural like ...but i dont why maybe i am too much old school but nothing compare to play on a real Stal one even at home in my room. @Steve buy a metal zone lol

nice and informative. Thanx!
Man when you use it like a boost #3 was such a tight sound can you share how you had the amp set for that??
Try a composer pro or a ultrafex pro from beringer in line with the ds1, it will blow your mind. Totally awesome. Rock on.
Nice tone! What amp did you use for this demo? Thank you

Exactly looking if I can use it as an overdrive, thanks ❤❤❤, can you use it for solo without using boost from amp or booster pedal?
Yes, you can use any type of petal or rack mount effects. It's awesome
I have the same exact pedal.
Love that 2nd guitar.
What is it....good sound.
Outstanding. :)

just a quick question, my ds1 is SUPER noisy, like whenever i stop playing i get tons of feedback and background noise, any thoughts?

does it need a battery and power adapter? i lost my power adapter cable and just put a battery in it after a few years and it doesn’t turn on

when i turn on my pedal it has a lot of bussy sound going on
do you have any solutions?
What happens if you use a Ds-1 in front of your OD-Pedal instead of after? Is it to recommend?
