Hashbrowns. Those things are hashbrowns.
😂😂 'are those grits??'
Wtf!? There's a huge difference btwn: hash browns, i.e., shredded fried potatoes, and grits, i.e., ground corn. 😂
Are those grits? 😂😂😂
Damn if my grits look like hash I'm gonna GTFO!
🤣🤣🤣
As a Wisconsinite I have to say Culver's is wonderful. The Butterburgers, crinkle cut fries, and frozen custard are so good.
You'd probably never come here but some of the barbecue places here are good as well. You'd like Texas barbecue much more
but it's still good. There's a Mission BBQ location about 5 minutes driving distance from where I live in a suburb in metro Milwaukee.
I went there once and liked it. I've never been into barbecue much so that's why I've only gone there once.
It's a cool place. There's a tank right in front of the restaurant.
There's a Jersey Mike's location near the grocery store i go to but I don't like their subs. For a sub place, I've
been meaning to try Firehouse subs. I've heard their subs are pretty good. It's a national chain but Outback Steakhouse
is pretty good. I think you'd like the barbecue ribs there. Texas Roadhouse is a good chain too. There's one location
here where Old Country Buffet used to be.
I had Firehouse subs last weekend after a couple years, still quite enjoyable. I only ever had the meatball subs. It is very close to a subway meatball, but just better quality. Their sweet and spicy meatball is a little to sweet for me, but the spiciness is at the right level.
I live in Missouri and we have Culvers oh man it's delicious and the Frozen Custard mmmm 😋 lol!
"The cheese is looking plasticy." That's because every fast food restaurant uses what they call American Cheese, which isn't really cheese. It is a processed cheese food product. The reason it looks like plastic is because I think it has jelatin in it. It usually has a little actual cheese in it, but it isn't real cheese, and it tastes gross, not just on its own but also on other stuff. It melts really easy, and that is why fast food restaurants in the U.S. use it.
Gold Star Chili and Skyline Chili are big in Ohio. Big rivalry between the two restaurants. There's another place in Cincinnati called Camp Washington which is really popular
Quaker state is a brand of automotive oil or lube. The first restaurant was in an old automotive service station. Hence the name Quaker steak n lube.
If you're that interested in biscuits and gravy, you don't actually need to visit the US to give it a try. The biscuit is essentially scone - eggs + buttermilk, and the gravy is literally just sausage drippings, milk, and flour. Somewhere along the way, salt and pepper make their way into both.
If you want to wait for the authentic experience, that's fair, but you probably already have most of the ingredients in your kitchen right now.
When it comes to salads you want to try a grilled chicken Caesar salad.
Grated Parm, Caesar dressing, and croutons on top of course.
Can never go wrong.
Chili and cinnamon rolls may sound crazy together, you do not have to dip it in, but the spicy of the chili and the sweet and spicy together is perfect!.
The Quaker thing is a pun. There’s a motor oil called Quaker State. Calling the restaurant Quaker Steak and Lube is funny.
As a Michigander, I have never heard of Big John's Steak and Onion. Might have to try it sometime, maybe.
You gotta hit Primanti Bros in Pittsburgh Pa for some of the best sandwiches in the world, if you're ever in town.
All their sandwiches come with coleslaw and fries on the sandwich, theres probably a video review somewhere on here. The last I knew they had 2 locations, but that was more than 10 years ago when I was there last so they might have opened more, the original location is in the strip district that opened back in the 30's and is still in operation.
I lived in Idaho for a while and visited Big Juds a couple of times. Most people go with friends and split a burger. (1 burger can usually feed 2 to 4 people). Also, the Burgers come with a knife so you can cut it into more manageable pieces.
Hashbrowns are crispy fried shredded potatos, yum!
I'm from the American South and love great burgers with cole slaw, chili, and cheese, as well as anything with a Biscuit, HOWEVER, Taco John"s is freaking amazing. Their jalapeno/cilantro sauce is great with hard-shelled tacos and potato ole's are an all-time favorite.
Love taco John’s, my go to is always the fried chicken meat and potato burrito
One way to kill a McDonalds franchise location is to build an In-n-Out next to it. I am from Los Angeles, but knew nothing about INO until I was 40n years old. Why? My Mom said they were more expensive for a family of five when we were young. I also found out that my parents were sneaking there to buy IAO burgers! lol.
No self respecting state would list McDonalds as their best state fast food chain, even though they are ubiquitous. People who want a fast, cheap meal with basically the same quality around the nation will get food there than rather a local place that they know nothing about.
IAO is almost as old as McDonalds is, but they have chosen to stay regional. I have lived in Kansas for a lot of years now and so it is treat to visit In-n-Out these days.
I busted out laughing when he looked at the hash browns and said oh are these grits. Bless your heart 🤣
Lube is motor oil, which makes sense since this is an auto-themed restaurant in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania is nicknamed the Quaker State since it was founded by William Penn (a Quaker), and Quaker State Motor Oil was founded in Pennsylvania. ETA: The first oil wells in the US were in Titusville, PA. Also, if you want to try a real burrito, I can send you my recipe. ;)
Actually "lube" was short for Lubrication or grease.Back in the day suspension components had grease fittings to lubricate. If you took your car / truck in for 3000 mile oil change you would ask for a " L-O- F .Lube-Oil-Filter and was often displayed prominently on the building.
There are also several quaker, steak and lube’s in Indiana surprisingly. There was one five minutes from my house.
Right, but the US still calls it Lube for the nether region lubrication that he was alluding to as well. Just clearing it up for him lol
Wait til he finds out where MICHELIN STARS come from
I was about to say lube is motor oil here, but lube is also the word we or at least some of us use for intimate gel/oil. Some places may call it something else for all I know so I can't speak for everyone but where I'm from we call both things lube.
Keep in mind, these are “local” chains in each state. With the few exceptions listed, these chains aren’t found outside the states they’re listed in. That’s why the “main” chains you were mentioning- McD’s, KFC, etc. - aren’t listed.
Hashbrowns are grated, then fried, potatoes. They are, generally, crispy on the outside and moist in the middle.
properly made hash browns are made from boiled potatoes. lazy fast hash browns are made from raw potatoes. McDonalds hash browns are mutant tater tots.
@@kenbrown2808The best hash browns are made from shredded day old baked potatoes.
@@jodiebristow3210 I've never seen evidence a day old baked potato is a thing.
@@kenbrown2808 They are hard to come by unless, you bake them after everyone has eaten and are full.😂 I would bake them after dinner. Let them cool then throw them in the fridge till morning.
@@jodiebristow3210 my mother would boil extra and set them aside before mashing for dinner.
McDonald’s rose so quickly because it was decent food, it was fast and the best part was because it was cheap. They have now pretty much began-pricing their way out the top spot because for the same price you can get better quality from these other restaurants.
I have lived in Illinois for over 50 years and have not been to Harold's Chicken Shack. There are only a few locations. I think Portillo's is more representative of an original Illinois hot dog, Italian beef and hamburger chain. Although Portillo's has expanded to other states, it originated in Illinois.
I lived in Central Illinois for a few years, and I agree about Portillo's. Nobody ever mentioned Harold's Chicken Shack the whole time I lived there, but Portillo's was always held up as the holy grail of hot dog places. When Portillo's opened up in my city, the line stretched forever for probably weeks because everybody was so excited to get Portillo's without having to go to Chicago.
Same. I live in Illinois now. But I lived in Indiana for years and never heard of that chain. Arni’s however are throughout the state and it’s the place my family goes to for get together and where I go for salad. I don’t generally eat salad because I am particular, but theirs is really great.
I came here to say just that. Living in the Chicago suburbs, I've had Harold's and the chicken is damn good, but I'm truly shocked Portillio's wasn't the one representing Illinois on this list. I mean hell, the chain sells so many Vienna Beef Hot Dogs that Vienna Beef actually named one of the factories after the restaurant chain and uses that one factory to only make hot dogs for Portillio's.
While there might be some debate over Als's Beef, Mr. Beef, or Portillio's for the best beef sandwich, you can't deny that their beefs are amazing {and always get it dipped!}
@@YSongCloud. Yes, baptize that beef.
I was super surprised by their choice! Giordano's or Portillo's make way more sense
Remember, dude, that a biscuit in the US is rarely sweet unless you put jam or syrup on them. They’re a thick, soft, crumbly bread that’s usually buttered or eaten with gravy or as part of a breakfast sandwich.
Biscuits and gravy..:homer simpson noises:
I've heard the pre-made or ready to make ones like Pillsbury taste a bit sweet to people sometimes, but I'm sure that's because manufacturers put added sugar into their products for..reasons
The Quaker Steak and Lube is a joke on a type oil sold in the US. It’s called Quaker State…the lube would be for engine parts. They’re trying to mimic an oil changing station that also lubes up engine parts in cars.
Lol. I was getting ready to explain this. 😂
We also use lube as a description of the stuff used to make sex easier. We have many words that are used for multiple purposes.
@bamachine I mean it's still the same purpose. Just different... materials
@@brandyanderson3522 runs different engines. Lol
Pennsylvania is also known by two names, The Quaker State and the Keystone State. "Quaker State's Oil, origins may be traced to the founding of Oil City, Pennsylvania, in the nineteenth century. Oil was first discovered there in 1859 by “Colonel” Edwin Drake, bringing instant prosperity to the region." "The Quaker State name is derived from the nickname for Pennsylvania, the state founded by William Penn, a man of the Quaker religion"
About Braum's in Oklahoma, what she didn't take time to tell is why their stuff is so good. They have their own cows, make their own milk and cheese, and they make their own ice cream. Because their meats and other ingredients are fresh and never frozen, the flavor is out of this world. Even their milk is processed differently. It's not cooked to kill the bad bacteria like grocery store milk, they use pressure instead, and it preserves natural flavors while making the milk safe to drink. That's the same milk they use to make their ice cream! I eat there at least once a week as a treat for myself.
Yo i actually have braums here in Dallas tx and their food is good also there a mini grocery in there winch blew my mind when i went there on my first visit
I’m so glad my home state is Braums! They have always maintained the quality of the food! It’s so good! And the fries are the best!!!
Yeah sorry to burst your bubble but since I deliver the frozen meat to braums distribution center, there meat is not "fresh never frozen" it is amazing tho lol
Arkansas here, can confirm good stuff. Also visit weekly as demanded by children (as if it were necessary).
I wasn't sure which way it was going to go, Braum's or Sonic, but the milk is reason enough to drive over just for the small grocery store. I was devastated when I became lactose intolerant and can't have their chocolate malts any more. 🥲
The dish you saw a few times and wondered what they were are hashbrowns. Hashbrowns are shredded/julienned potatoes that are fried on a griddle or stove-top. They could be baked as well but mostly fried. They can be put into a patty format or just loosely piled on a plate.
You definitely won't find Subway on this list. I can't speak for all Americans, but most people I know consider Subway to be a sub-par sandwich shop. At least in my neck of the woods in Ohio, most people prefer going to places like Penn Station, DiBella's, Jersey Mike's and Firehouse.
I'm a bit shocked they picked Gold Star Chili for Ohio. I personally would pick Skyline chili over Gold Star any day. Skyline is what put "Cincinnati style chili" on the map.
Jersey Mike's is good too but personally I love Subway 🙂
I agree, I like Firehouse a lot more, but since there's a Subway only 5 miles from my house...I try to talk my mom into something better when she sends me out for a Subway, though.
I love firehouse subs, but here in TX I have seen more Jersey Mike's
Firehouse is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I agree with the Skyline! Why would they choose Gold Star??? 🤢
I'm cracking up at the thought of McDonald's being in this video 😂
Historically speaking...I believe In-N-Out slowly expands it's business because they want their restaurants within so many miles of their warehouse in order to keep the quality and freshness of their products.
They.were never going to.expand beyond Southern California, but a portion of the board of direct was killed in a plane crash and the daughter who took control of the board expanded to Las Vegas and then Arizona.
And I'm an Arizona native and I've never even heard of Bobby Qs. Tom's BBQ is excellent, and for fried chicken It's poll's Chicken and Waffles. For Mexican food,.particularly in the valley, Serrano's is so good and serves the best bean dip.
That, and they will not become a publicly traded corporation nor take on venture capital investments.
They remain family owned. Daughter Lynsi inherited it some years back from her folks and is now the president and a billionaire.
They are set to move their headquarters to Tennessee and will therefore be expanding out here in the next few years. As a native Californian who lives in TN I can’t wait 😀 also, I’ve lived in TN for 17 years and I’ve never heard of Pal’s
Guess i’ll never get to try it since its not in Michigan
In'N'Out is not so great. They can stay in California as far as I'm concerned.
If you really want to see some mouthwatering food in the US, you need to check out Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Guy Fieri did this series that takes you everywhere across America to places with many different menus.
Guy goes right into the kitchen, watches and often assists, while usually two dishes are made. Then he samples them, as well as talks to customers about the place and their food. Enjoyable show and will make you hungry.
omg yes. my fav hometown restraunt made the show Singletons in mayport-jacksonville fl. :) if u like that homestyle low country fla food its the best. and the bartenders are very generous with the liqour so be careful!
Subway, McDonald's, KFC are some of the worse chain fast food
White gravy is easy to make
Cook bacon or sausage and use the grease, white flour, and milk. Season with black pepper.
As a native Wisconsinite, Culvers has a lot to offer. What the presenter dropped the ball on was what made the restaurant popular to begin with: Butterburgers and frozen custard. They also have a very tasty pot roast sandwich.
Culvers in the best fast food burger place hands down
As a native Wisconsinite, I agree.
Culvers is my favorite fast food restaurant hands down and I'm not even from the Midwest/didn't grow up with it. I'm not much of a fan of fast food/burger joints in general but Culvers has legitimately good food. I have yet to have something there I didn't like.
They didn't fail to mention the burgers. They specifically mentioned them, and had a freeze frame on the custard. That said, as a Wisconsinite that has been all over the country and eaten at all kinds of food chains, I will say it's better than In'N'Out, Whataburger, Five Guys, and almost any of the other burger chains out there. That's not saying much though, as the bar is pretty low.
For Wisconsin, you absolutely cannot go wrong with Erbert's and Gerbert's for chain restaurants. Their sandwiches and soups are second to none. Culver's is good...but E&G? Chef's kiss.
As a neighboring Minnesotan, I also agree, though I'm more a fan of the cheese curds and the lemon ice they serve in the summer. Cor, but that stuff is refreshing!
They're not onions, They're not grits, those are hash browns !!! Hash browns are shredded potatoes cooked to a crispy brown.
Subway where I’m from is “the cheapest option.” If you want a sub, you don’t really want Subway, but you’ll take it if it’s the only thing available or affordable. We say here that “all Subway sandwiches taste kind of the same.” We have tons of delicious sub shops to choose from, and Subway is at the bottom of the list.
Where I'm from we have Subway, Jersey Mike's, and Jimmy Johns. I usually only go to Subway if I'm in the mood for a flatbread sandwich. Maybe it's just location but we have like 5 in my town and all are really good. Jimmy John's is my absolute favorite though because their sandwich combos are perfection. My go to is the Country Club, but their downside is they don't toast their subs. I haven't tried Jersey Mike's because the sandwich selection looks like a mirror of Jimmy John's only toasted and like $4 more.
Most grocery stores make sub sandwiches with more meat an cheaper prices than subway
Your accent is so cute and fun!! And I'm so glad that ypu are not embarrased at not knowing the word or the correct word for things, it's so cute! People fall for people who don't pretend to know everything. Also, people enjoy showing people around who are new to things. Your enthusiasm is so fun on your videos, in person on tour in the states.....we would love you! It makes it more fun for us! Can't wait until I see your videos from your first visit in the US!! You are so down to earth and honest, stay fresh young friend!
As a native of New Jersey, describing Jersey Mike's as "Subway on crack" is pretty accurate.
We now have one in Lubbock TX, and I just don't get what's so great about Jersey Mike's.
As far as Louisiana goes, Raising Canes is good..I won’t lie…but Popeyes is BETTER! ❤️
When I come home to Louisiana, gotta get Johnny's Pizza. Love my sweep the kitchen ❤
@@happypraise9426 the last trip I actually brought home a take and bake! ❤️
Lube does mean the same thing in the states, but it's short for lubricant, which is also used in cars. The entire gimmick of the place is that you can have your car worked on and get a meal at the same time. Also it's criminal that they put Gold Star for Ohio instead of Skyline. Both are Cincinnati chili places, but Skyline is the original.
KY jelly is commonly referred to as lube in the states.
@@MrMirackit's not "referred to as". That's literally what it is. It is printed right on the bottle. Lube is short of lubricant, which is anything used to reduce friction.
I've never even heard of Gold Star. They should have picked Melt Bar and Grilled.
I'm surprised they didn't put something like Swenson's for Ohio.
I agree- lived outside of Cincinnati for 5 years (as a kid) and have never had Gold Star but loved Skyline
Runza is absolutely correct for Nebraska. I live in Texas now, and it’s the only fast food I crave when I go back home. The sandwiches are so good and the fries are THE BEST. Also, dipping your cinnamon rolls in your chili is (mostly) a Nebraska only thing, and it’s damn good!
Whataburger representing Texas is a no-brainer. Texans are almost cultish about that place, which is hilarious because it’s…fine.
Also, sorry to disappoint, but Taco John’s is as far from Mexican as Chef Boyardee is to Italian. 😂😂😂 it’s decent, but it doesn’t hold a candle to actual Mexican food.
Georgia should have Chick-fil-A way better than waffle house. Waffle house is after you have gotten smashed at the bar tbh it is good but to me Chick-fil-A is way better and 2nd to none for services
We also have a couple cook outs in georgia and they are cheap and good for the price and there milk shakes are really good
I’ve never even heard of Pals in Tennessee and I’ve lived here 25 years. Tennessee’s restaurant is Cracker Barrel.
OMG, I never laughed so loud, LMAO Quaker steak and Lube... was originally set up in an old auto shop (garage) Lube is used in vehicles.. lol "It was founded in 1974, in Sharon, Pennsylvania. The original restaurant was built by George "Jig" Warren III and Gary "Mo" Meszaros in an abandoned gas station in downtown Sharon, and decorated with license plates and old automobiles." Lube is greese used in cars.. lol It also means what you said.... LMAO
Fun fact on the Milo's restaurants: the family actually sold off the restaurant business and now sells their sweet tea across the US. In fact, it's the number 1 selling refrigerated tea in the US.
Milo's is my favorite sweet tea. When my husband drove thru, I made him buy all he could. He came home with 14 gallons. I'm so happy it's spread, and I can now buy it down the street at my local grocery stores.
It is the only good packaged tea
like the milo's lemonade tho never had the tea cuz theres no decaf option 😂😂
@@joshualee8151Yes, there is. It’s the blue label.
Milo’s tea is made about 30 minutes from here on the outskirts of Birmingham. It really is the absolute best packaged tea. Their normal sweet tea is just tea, sugar, and water. No citric acid to preserve it or anything else. I don’t even make my own tea anymore.
The restaurant pretty much sucks though. The only things worth ordering is the chicken sandwich, which really is very good and the tea.
I was surprised they picked Milo’s over Jack’s. While Jack’s isn’t my favorite, it’s leaps and bounds better than Milo’s.
Ohio chili and Texas chili are two different things entirely. They're both very good in their own right but don't confuse the two.
@@mamaw757I’ve had Texas chili that I got to enjoy once, but not the next day. I felt like I was giving birth to smoldering charcoal. I love spicy food, but what the hell is wrong with you people in Texas?
Real Texas chili doesn't have beans.
Keep in mind that these are all STATE chains, and nationwide chains should not be listed here at all. A few of the state chains has migrated to other nearby states, but it is mainly in the original state. Also, going nationwide requires a lot of infrastructure, which is what MacDonlad's has done to a perfection.
I was surprised Waffle House made it onto the list considering how many states they are in.
Ahhh…Waffle House…that restaurant has fed more drunks at 4 am than any other place on the planet. It’s a cheap, greasy, generally delicious place. When I worked at another restaurant, we would get out of work at like 1 am, go to the bar and get messed up until the bars closed at 4…then off to the Waffle House for a double cheeseburger and hash browns.
Dude! Here's the optimistic American view. Buy a couple of meat smokers and start a bbq brisket, sausage, and pork place there. You'll rack up since they don't have it but seem to love it! Pair up with a pub to sell it even. You'll be rich in no time. Then you can buy that house you want and travel here whenever you want!
Mess cooks are military chefs. The dining area in military camps is called a mess hall.
I grew up in Lexington, KY and worked at Fazoli's in high school. The pasta is fine but being able to go through the drive through and get a dozen breadsticks is a gamechanger.
Chicken Fried Steak with white gravy isn't chicken. It's beef, breaded and fried like chicken. PDQ really means Pretty Damn Quick Fazoli's Baked Spahgetti is GREAT!
Yea but chicken fried chicken is. Go to Texas Roadhouse! Yum!
Fazoli’s is 75% as good as a sit down Italian place at half the price. I’ve always left there stuffed for less than $10. I wish we had one around here.
In addition to these places there are approximately 500,000 individual (non-chain) restaurants in the USA.
Milos is the bomb! The tea is the best and can be found in Walmarts all across the US. The chicken fingers sauces are great... my fave is the Double O's which is the Milo's secret sauce mixed with ranch dressing.
Chains are kind of meh in America - some exceptions of course. Lots of processed food. If you want really good food, you have to find those stand alone restaurants that have a reputation for being the best of the best in the city.
Ok, now that i've watched the full video, they did pretty good with the small local chains. I thought they were going to do more of the nationwide chains that kinda suck.
I worked at waffle house for about 3 years they are pretty good but best believe the staff is ready to throw hands even with each other its crazy
At marker 26:17 they are talking about Artic Circle food, they mentioned how their Halibut and fries are popular, and then you asked, "what is Halibut?" Halibut is a type of fish and is really good when cooked just right. Just so you know for next time. 👍
Yes halibut is delicious so much better than cod.
Ah yes ! CULVERS in Wisconsin ! Family owned that grew fast because of the cleanliness, fast service , using high quality products. I love the pot roast sandwiches, fried cheese curds and fish dinners.
We call the sliding stuff Lube too, but this refers to Oil Lube for your car engine. Quaker State Oil and Lube stations, so it's a take on that.
There are a handful of American-style BBQ places in the UK, Jolly has covered some of them. They're a mix of either American-owned or Brit-owned with regular annual trips to the US to learn more authentic techniques and dishes to bring back. Both are great ways to operate, honestly. Some examples are Bluegrass BBQ in Windsor, Camdon BBQ in London and Smokehouse in Wakefield. There's plenty more, might just take a bit of research to see what's the most authentic location closest to you.
Halibut is a flaky white fish often used in fish and chips in the US, you'll find it more commonly the further west you go.
I'm not saying you can't find halibut in the US, but if you get "fish and chips" in the US it is going to be cod 99% of the time, regardless of the state you are in.
yea its usually cod lol.
Any time there is a best of food video for each state, they will always name something in New York City. The problem is, outside of the city you've never heard of the places they name. To be fair, people in the city have never heard of the local chain restaurants in the rest of the state. Geographically speaking the people who do these videos are literally only picking one city. More broadly speaking I would name Dinosaur BBQ, Tom Wahl's, Bill Gray's or Abbott's for New York State. She kind of mentioned the history of Quaker Steak & Lube. It's a play on Quaker State motor oil and the related mechanic shop.
As a proud Masshole, I can say the same. I've literally never heard of the Massachusetts restaurant in my life 🤷🏻♀️
I completely agree. My best friend lives on Long Island and her husband works in the City and she said neither of them have ever heard of that restaurant. The both know about Dinosaur BBQ, as do I. I’m from the Capital Region.
Thank you for being another person who calls out these lists for disregarding upstate and NNY. It's not a restaurant but Stewart's does good ice cream.
I moved from NNY to South TX to the home of Whataburger. Every state has a place that unique to the state. McDonald's is national which most of the ones on the list are not
Also BBQ is different than grilling
You're from Rochester, NY...
@@wdw4187 Xi'an Famous Foods' original location was visited by the late Anthony Bourdain, which is how the family (it's a family business) was able to open more locations. Not sure how the restaurants on this list were chosen, but it doesn't claim to be the most well-known chain in each state; if a chain is very local but gets high ratings from customers or food critics, it might beat out better-known ones. As for Dinosaur BBQ, IMO it's not even the best barbecue chain in NY, much less the best chain overall.
Waffle House ahead of Chick-fil-A is a wild choice
Agreed. Chick Fil A is growing as fast as corporate will allow. Waffle House is a meme.
Well, Waffle House doesn't hate gay people as far as I know, so I'll stick with them
@gigi-ij1hk Waffle House accepts everyone, so long as they can scrap.
Nah, Waffle House definitely should be ahead of Chik Fil A for a beloved restaurant in GA.

Waffle House is such a hit/miss. One will be amazing and the next the food is drab and the restaurant looks like a you need a tetnus shot after visiting.
Pennsylvania where they are located is called the Quaker State. Quaker state is also a name brand part brand that specializes in motor oil and quick oil change brands usually have lube in the name (Jiffy Lube, Quick Lube, etc). 9:54 I saw a reaction to *Spitfire Barbeque* in Bristol and it looks very legit. Dunno if that's a feasible location for you, but I believe they said their cooking staff are trained in Texas(and other states) and they return from time to time to trade tips and tricks and perfect their methods as well as creating the different bbq sauce types.

Gold Star chili is decent. They are one of the last to come out with Cincinnati style chili, having paid a Skyline Chili corporate chef to defect and give them their recipe (whise founder worked for Empress chili) . About 15 years ago they did change their recipe to differ slightly. In my opinion Skyline (the largest Cincy chili chain) is better. There are many Cincinnati style chili parlors. Started by the Empress chili parlor. It's a Greek meat sauce recipe. Most parlors/chains (including Gold Star) are derivatives of Empress. Too many to list, but all are good (to me). Visitors either love it or hate it, it seems.
Agreed, although just not a fan of gold star.
Also this only represents the Cincinnati area of Ohio.
@@jameseddy7485true, but I’m curious what else you would choose. Wendy’s? Buffalo Wild Wings? Bob Evans? Something else?

I would pick Bob Evans.
Lions Choice cooks their roast beef medium rare, it is AMAZING! I got to get back home and eat some proper midwest food. Even though I would say Imo's pizza is more popular than Lions Choice.
Quaker State lube is a combination restaurant and oil change and lubrication affair for your car. Quaker State is primarily known for their automobile lubrication products.
Agreed
Yes Quaker Steak & Lube is a play on the Quaker STATE oil & lube. Their restaurants are car themed, including race car bodies in the restaurant.
Lived in PA all my life and never seen one. But I'm all the way up in the Northeast. A stones throw from New Jersey. Maybe more out west in the Pittsburgh area? Not gonna lie it was a bit sad to see our state wind up with a Gas and go location, while all these other states have really really good looking spots.
Got quite a few around the Cincy suburbs
@@ugib8377 Quaker Steak actually sucks. We had one in Pittsburgh but no one wanted it. Do you guys have a Primanti Bros yet? Now that's a chain everyone loves. At least in western Pennsylvania and now parts of West Virginia.
Yeah, it's true. I've eaten from most of these chains when I travel the US, and I've never had a miss. Also, if you want a proper burrito, come down to New Mexico and get a traditional NEW MEXICAN burrito, they're way different than a "Mexican" burrito from anywhere else in the South West US... The key is our New Mexican Chile... Unforgettable, trust!
Halibut is a flatfish similar to flounder and I grew up mostly in Salt Lake City, Utah and I Loved dunking Arctic Circles Yukon Gold Fries in Reese's peanut butter cup shake. Also when I lived in Kansas City I never went to any BBQ "chain" if I wanted BBQ I went to K.C. Masterpiece or Gates BarBQue they're not chains
Halibut is awesome
Actually, Jersey Mikes doesn't have nearly the variety that Subway has, but their food is good - I'm fine with just mayo and tomato on a ham and cheese sandwich. I love that they make a small sandwich, too, so I don't end up throwing part of it away.
I'm in Alabama, home of the Milo's Restaurants. The nearest Milo's to me is about 80 miles away, too far to drive even for a good burger. But Milo's Famous Tea is sold in gallon jugs in many supermarkets. The restaurants and tea production were both founded by Milo Carlton, but his family eventually sold the restaurants. They still own the tea company.
Same! I’ve been in Alabama all my life and never eaten at one, but the tea is a staple at any get-together!
Same
I live all the way in NC and we get Milo's tea from the grocery store here. Had no idea until this vid they made anything besides tea & lemonade 😂
Milo's Tea still makes the tea mix for the restaurants, though they don't make the lemonade. That's why if you go to the restaurants, they cannot call their lemonade Milo's Lemonade.
Love Milo's Zero tea
There was a Taco John's where I live in Montana for decades. It closed down a couple years ago. In college, I dated a girl who worked there and she told me, after a shift one day, that they had gotten some bad burger shipped to them and they had to throw it out. A few hours later, the owner showed up extremely angry and yelling, made them get the ground burger out of the dumpster, and pick out the "good" burger from the spoiled to use it. Never ate there again, which sucked cause I still crave their meat and potato burrito to this day. Fortunately, I love to cook and just make my own now.
I've lived in Indiana almost my whole life and I have NEVER heard of Schoops. A better representation of a fantastic chain in our State would be Pizza King. One of the best pizzas ever!
Thank you!!!! I would have settled for any place served a decent tenderloin sandwich.
I used to be one in warsaw It was o k nothing to write home about I guess that's why closed
Lived in Indiana my whole life, never heard of Schoop’s.
Don’t know how they didn’t list Chick-fil-a for Georgia since it started there, but maybe it’s too fast-food and less of just a chain? Waffle House makes sense though
Quaker Steak and Lube is a play on words. Quaker State is Oil and Lube is GEAR lube (for your car) 😂 it's set up to look like an oil change shop and they called it Quaker Steak and Lube.
On a side note, your explanation of what "lube" is in the UK was hilarious!
P.S. the US has that kind if lube too 😂😂😂
I live in Denver, I've never been to garbanzo, but i have a friend in missouri that i visit sometimes and every single time I HAVE to get lions choice at least once before i leave. its the best roast beef ever
also roast beef IS cooked, its just slow roasted so it doesn't get that grey color. it remains a medium rare pink. very very good if you can ignore the color. very tasty and not at all dry like fully cooked medium well beef
edit: also Jersey Mikes and Raising Canes is fucking BOMB
Garbanzos is a Mediterranean fast casual restaurant where you order and assemble your plate or pita by directing the employee which scoops you want. That plate had falafel balls (a fried Garbanzo bean with spices), shwarma (they also have chicken, steak and kabob), hummus, couscous, Mediterranean salad (cucumber tomatoes red onions)
Not sure how they didn't go Good Times for Colorado.
And the "White creamy stuff" was Feta Cheese. :)
@newgrl I think that was likely tahini (Sesame condiment), although Garbanzos also has a Tzatziki or a garlic sauce, tahini is a bit beige, but the other 2 are white
@@jongabriel913 I thought he was pointing at the cheese and wondering what it was. But you're probably correct.
Our version of that is "Pita Inn", here in the Chicago suburbs.
So disappointing that NY is only seen for things in NYC 🙄 there’s so much amazing food upstate!!!!
But are those CHAIN restaurants? That's what the video is about after all.
Buffalo has a lot of the best food in the state.
Anchor Bar (Buffalo) now has close to 20 locations. BTE; original Buffalo Chicken Wings were :invented" there in 1963.
Off site that, but...Nachos @ NHL Sabres have BBQ brisket in them. 2 of yer fans, L
Sounds like England's lack of good food places is the perfect opportunity for someone to start an American themed restaurant of some of the American favorites.
Lewis, your enthusiasm is just fun to watch. You just need to come see the USA for yourself. Grab your buddy, pack up a backpack & come on over. There are plenty of familys/people who would gladly give you a meal & a cot for a few days (back in the day, we called this couch surfing.). 🛋 👀
I’ve got a place in TN! Come on thru for a little visit and experience some southern hospitality 😊
@@thenashbelle See, I told you 😃! We can do southwest Colorado, the 4corners (Mesa Verde National Park), and then we'll sling you up to Grand Lake (Rocky Mountain National Park ⛰️ ).

If you watch Mr. H and his wife Mrs. H, they have a clip of a restaurant in the UK that they went to. The chefs go to the US to learn Barbecue secrets they use in their restaurant.
The big thing about In-N-Out is that all of their food is fresh and never premade or frozen. When a restaurant expands into chains/franchises they have to maintain quality control so your food looks and tastes the same no matter the location. The more a restaurant expands, the more difficult that becomes and sacrifices have to be made. All food at McDonalds is pre-made at a central location, frozen and then distributed. That process also requires the use of many preservatives. Just because McDonalds adds ingredients that make the food taste appetizing, doesn't mean it's good food. Their food items are actually some of the worst out there for you because of additives. I applaud In-N-Out for not compromising quailty for profits. And you can definitly taste the difference.
Compromising quality over profits is exactly what McDonald's did years ago. In the beginning, when the brothers still owned it, quality was their goal. It's a shame what happened to them.
Garbage food. Total GARBAGE.
No, you can't. Their food is awful. One of the worst burger chains out there.
@@williameldridge9382 As they say, "opinions are like assholes, we all have one".
thing i dont like about in and out is they only come one way and you cant have like onions taken off if you like cuse they wont
I got to be honest I always thought I was bias cuz I'm American for our food but the more I watch your videos and more I know we got some bomb ass shit. I love our food. Thats why the world makes fun of us for being so fat.... We got the good shit 😂😂
There are two bbq joints on London. Kabir did a review of it last year. Also, i just had Tudor's Biscuits today. So good
White gravy isn't particularly hard to make. It's made from the left over drippings from whatever you were frying, flour, milk, salt and pepper. So, say you fried up some pork chops. Take the pork chops out when they're done. Add a couple of spoonfuls of all-purpose flour (not self-rising) to the drippings. Mix them together and fry this concoction for a couple of minutes to fry out the raw flour taste. Add a couple of tea mugs full of milk and whisk to get out the lumps. Bring back up to bubbling so it thickens to a wallpaper paste consistency. Add plenty of salt and pepper. Pour over food.
Bacon grease ..

@@dawnyoung2294 Uhhh.... You talking about the Gold Star Chili over Skyline Chili? I prefer Skyline :)
Don’t ever insult jersey mikes by comparing it to subway in any way shape or form lol
I’ve seen videos on UA-cam of Brit’s going to bbq places ran by Americans or trained by Americans over there. One was called spitfire that actually looked damn good
i'll have to check it out and maybe make a video on it!
There are a few in London, I think.
As a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Gold Star Chili is AMAZING!!! Cincinnati style chili is a local favorite that is great on everything from hot dogs to spaghetti. And yes, the chili is thinner than Texas style chili. But that's part of what makes it great. And the crazy thing, our chili has traces of chocolate in it. I know that sounds gross, but it is actually great!
I’m a native of northern Indiana, but Cincinnati chili, or Cincinnati spaghetti as we called it was a staple at my house. In fact, my mom just made a homemade batch for dinner tonight.
Cincinnati chili is amazing but Skyline is so much better!
I think you need to Google the recipe for white southern gravy and try it 😊. I've noticed you really want to try it. Please do and do a video for us 😊
i move into a new place soon, with a good kitchen for me to attempt to make it, haha i'll probs stream me making it and then youtube vid me eating it
@@L3WGReactsyes please 😊. I'm waiting for the video of you trying some different foods. It will be so much fun 😄!!
Culver's in Wisconsin truly is great. So few places have onion rings any more, it's a godsend that they have them, really crispy, and lots of 'em! Oh, and the custard ice cream is great too.
Love your videos. Keep up the good work. The only problem I have with this video is that there's only one great pizza place in all of Alaska and that is the moose's tooth.
The stringy things you were seeing were hashbrowns or a style of them anyway. Classic hashbrowns are shredded which results in thin strips of potato rather than the patty style you recognized.
5 guys and frys is one of my favorite places to get a cheeseburger and fresh cut frys, they are amazing.
As someone who grew up in Michigan and lived there for 26 years, I have never even heard of Big John’s 😂 places that are more iconic to Michigan, specifically Detroit, would be National Coney Island with the Detroit style chili dogs, or numerous pizza chains that started in Detroit like Little Caesars and Dominos. Those are the cheap ones that got huge and everyone knows about. There’s also Hungry Howie’s which is still primarily around Detroit, but the crown jewel that has now expanded to 20 states is Jet’s Pizza.
That's because there are no Big John's anywhere near Detriot. I'm almost 50, born and raised in Michigan and I've had Big John's since I was a kid. There are only 15 locations....6 in Flint, Burton, Owosso, Grand Blanc, Clio, Davison, Saginaw and 3 in Lansing. It's very popular and the parking lot is always packed. In fact, I very much prefer their subs to Jimmy Johns.
Born, raised and still here in Michigan for 59years. I haven't eaten at Big John's, but I've heard of them and seen commercials.
I grew up south of Saginaw , MI and now live in Burton so I have had Big John's most of my life. What we're missing from the list is Halo Burger. As far as a sub I'd rather go to Jersey Mike's.
I've been in MI for 65 years and I've never heard of National Coney Island.
I came here to say the same. Lived in Southwest Michigan for 20 years, travel around the state with my son's baseball team and still have never heard of it.
Lube usually means motor oil but it could mean beer, too. And it means what you thought, too, but not with regard to food.
In-n-Out has a very high standard for the quality of their food. If their suppliers can’t reach an area quickly enough they won’t expand. It’s the main reason you only find them in a small part of America.
The video is about local and regional chains, not big global chains like McDonald's and KFC.
In-N-Out has been expanding quite aggressively in the last decade, but they are all corporate owned with no franchising, and they insist on using only fresh produce and meat, so their locations are all within a day's drive of their suppliers. In-N-Out is currently in seven Western states, with the vast majority in California.
Quaker Steak and Lube is a play on the name Quaker State and Lube, a chain of automotive oil change shops owned by the Quaker State motor oil company. I'm surprised they weren't sued for the name.
The in and out secret menu isn't very secret. My son got a six by six, and they'll go even bigger. Beefy burgers.
The secret to get fresh from McDonald's is to ask for something special. No salt on the fries, gets you hot fries, light sauce, or no ketchup will get you a fresh made burger.
Big Judds! Cut that burger in quarters and chow down! Awesome. Idaho is known for their potatoes. So fries, or tots are awesome!
Can you tell I live in Idaho?
The potato pancake you see from Waffle House are the hashbrowns. The roast beef on the sandwich is cooked and it actually tastes good.
I’ve never been to Philadelphia so I can’t compare Jersey Mike’s Philly Cheesesteak to any of the ones in Philly, but as far as any other Philly Cheesesteaks I’ve tasted, Jersey Mike’s is the BEST Philly cheesesteak I’ve ever had. Even just their original one. They also have other subs that are phenomenal.
Jersey Mike’s Philly steak sucked, we stopped at one when we did a road trip to NY, the onions and peppers were raw and hardly any steak.
I don't trust anyone that doesn't love pasta. Where I'm from, that isn't normal.
Just a little word of advice. You can’t judge food and even many other things by the way it looks in a picture. The Hot Dog might be red because of what they cook it with or what’s on it or often because of the lighting in the picture or the camera equipment itself. The only way you can tell what a food is like is to have it in front of you and smell and taste it. The videos of food where those 2 guys who are from the UK are tasting the food are a better clue as to how the food might actually taste. Same with the fries that look really light or any other weird looking food. Hope that helps.
That is true for a lot of foods, but not in the case of this hot dog. In the south they prefer their hot dogs in bright red like this. I live in North Carolina and I think these hot dogs are disgusting, but this is the kind of hot dog the people around here grew up with. I think it's where the term red hots comes from to refer to hot dogs.
@@PatNovak4Hire2023 I'm with you on these hot dogs. They are nasty. Always have been but a friend of mine only buys those red hots for her family...blech, lol.
You mean JOLLY? Love those guys!
Red hot dogs are also common in New England, mostly in Maine. The casing is not just dyed but is more firm than the "natùral" casing of brown hot dogs. There's actually a bit of a snap when you bite into them.
