From 2:14 and on is probably the saddest thing seen in Warcraft history. Almost like the scene in Star Wars III ROTS when Vader first walks the main hall of the star destroyer at the end with the emperor to oversee the death star construction. It's a painful scene that just tells you that its official, the favored good guy is gone and is nothing but evil now.

In Northrend he finds the power he needs to destroy his nemesis. After stripped of the childish soul he had ,starts what Mal'ganis never would've achieve for the Scouge. He Conquers 3 Kingdoms from 7. Takes Northrend and Orchestrate the Legion's downfall (he literrally saves the world). After that he survives the Coup against him , Sylvanas ,even takes the great wyrm Sapphiron. Kills a Greater Minion of the Old Gods in a severe condition. After his powers are restored ,he Defeats Illidan. This Scene is after that. It is not heartbreaking , it is Justified , it is Glorious. Imagine wearing it after it has been in ice for many years. Arthas: *Slightly wears it* C-COLD! *jolts from the chill and accidentally throws it away down* ...Shit
Now we have no more past to go over, the dreinei and the elves, the goblins and worsen. Pandaren, and the last people of lordaeron are dead. Now we have to move on. To the future
It didn't make much sense since all the others were dialogues from Arthas' old friends like Uther and Muradin from earlier chapters but that one was from Medivh, a stranger to Arthas.
The music at the end still stands as the most perfect and appropriate background in any video game cinematic I've seen, aside from maybe "Morituri te Salutant" in the intro for Brood War.
Blizz lore lied. It did arrange the story to justify Arthas's victory. "illidan serves no one" you say ? Pffff... He served Kil'Jaeden like an afraid little puppet ; and he always served his pathetic addiction for power. "Huh ??! I serve the Night Elven. No, I serve the Legion ! No, the Night Elven ! No, the Legion ! No, I'm in love with Tyrrande ! Nooooo, my brother fucked her :'( WHY ?!? I'm so powerful, and cool, and i have two big blades, and yet... :'( World sucks... " "Why did my brother made me captive for 10000 years ??? I just risked the safety of the World cause of my addiction for power :'( I need to be healed, not enprisoned ! :'( World sucks... " I could continue for long, if writing in english wasn't so uncomfortable for me.
The scene of Arthas putting on the Helm of Dominance is purely magical. Spellbinding. "Now we are one." It's like Blizzard in the form of Ner'zhul, telling the player, in the form of Arthas, that they are now "one". I quit playing shortly after the end of WotLK. There it became very clear, that "No Chris Metzen rules forever, my son", no spell lasts forever. With the death of Arthas the spell cast on players by TFT was broken. After that the "oneness" with Blizzard vanished. To this day I am still grateful for literally taking part in the unfolding of one of the most epic fairy tales created by men.
All my life I loved winter.Cold was just so easy for me to "digest".While my friends hated it I embraced it.I hate summers,I hate heat,I hate to sweat.I wish where I lived that there would be constant winter.Unlucky for me,where I live now, winter is a big joke,no snow,no freezing, rarely below 0 temperatures.....nothing..just some clouds. How I wished I could sit in that Throne and admire the view while I feel the beautiful, cold and harsh chill of winter on my body. Oh,sweet, refreshing cold.Couldn't I be born somewhere colder than my home country...
I remember seeing this moment when I played the game. It was at this moment that I realized Warcraft would be one of the greatest cultural pieces to influence my life. I've met my friends through it, forged a whole new identity with it, and just had the time of my life with it. Thank you for providing me with such a beautiful world to explore, Blizzard.
Warcraft III is my first blizzard game. I played the game through human campaign, love it, and my jaw dropped when I reached the end of the campaign. When I finished the game, I looked for its sequel, and found the Frozen Throne. They are magnificent. I always think how lucky I am to have a chance to play this game (thanks to my wonderful friend who let me borrow this game). This scene is so heartbreaking I remembered sitting in front of my computer for 15 minutes, staring. 6 years later I gave this game to my sister. She loved it very much (though she prefer Illidan than Arthas, hmm). Now, we are waiting for Reforged, and we hoped that it will do Warcraft III justice
2:15 Makes me feel kind of sad, but it's my favorite moment in any cinematic ever. Everything is on point. They nailed it with music, too. Wish they kept that dark green gloomy atmosphere in WotLK and made him harder to kill.
I still remember the first time I finisched FT. When Arthas is climbing the throne I kept hoping that it was all a ruse, that he would kill the Lich King. But then. .. the tragic ending, what a masterpiece of a game this was.
In my opinion, thats how Warcraft Lore should've ended. Arthas being king sitting on his throne in the frozen wastes of Northrend. Epic Ending to a story. Everything after that is just... not right. Music is breath taking. Hearing it again after so long brings back memories instant. To think some "champions" are killing or already killed every greater being in WOW Lore, Titans, Dragons and Gods... ugh.
When we look back in life we remember a lot of moments, beating Illidan and all his Naga's in a time limit to an ending like that to a sad song will always be one of the moment i recall when i look back mine, "The Symphony of Frost and Flame." Lk, Illidan and the whole game is very memorable.
I think we should all notice the ending in this cinematic and the change in everything. How he sits alone and just sits there. No one around him, nothing. He has lost everything and we all know that the actual Arthas, would have cared. Arthas never became evil because he wanted to, Arthas became evil slowly. he wanted to save his kingdom, his homeland, everything. He would do anything to save them. "I'd gladly bear any curse to save my homeland" as he says. Arthas was a prince, he had blonde hair and warm skin and then cinematic where he kills his father, the entire room is still in all warm and nice clours while Arthas is becoming more pale and "colourless". And now, in the end, this isn't Arthas anymore, he is still in there but trapped. Arthas would never have wanted this to happen. So you see him there, alone, pale, with nothing else. He might be the lich king but king of what? His father is dead, his kingdom is in ruins and everything he tried to protect was taken away. It gets me so emotional just to see him sit there. And just a notice, i believe Arthas knows whats going on, when he dies, he asks his father "Is it over", which i believe he asks because he WANT it to be over. So all in all.. Arthas is still in his own body, watching himself slay his father and do all this but it's never actually him who does it. It's the lich king
+Gabriel Caetano not at all, remenber that frostmourne was cursed and when arthas took it, he stopped thinking about the kingdom he wanted to protect. when he puts the crown in his head, he starts a mental battle with ner'zul and "lich king". when wotlk started, lich king was the one that won the battle, so he wasn't a human that cared about his people anymore or a orc that wanted revenge against the burning legion. he was a new creature that wanted to kill every living thing and transform it in a undead abomination, without emotions or morals stopping it
the ending cutscene is supposed to express the tormenting whispers that represent's Arthas' guilt. Those whispers continue to haunt him for eternity... he cannot undo what he has done... he knows this... he only has his true destiny ahead of him, to become the lich king. But Arthas chose this path himself, he was a psychopath.
+Irwan Haziq It also epic when hearing this word "Your young prince will find only death in cold north" . That whisper always give me goosebumbs..Mediev foresaw the fate of Prince Arthas will lose his sanity when claim the curse blade Frosmourne when travels to Northrend to persue his vengenge.. but Jaina encounter that "You Arthas is only doing what he believes is right" but Mediev reply that "Commendable as that may be, his passion will be his undoing it falls to you know young sorceres" ( I like this conversation).Knowing that Arthas effort when going to Northerend was a lost cause and wasteful.. but for Arthas what he have done was only to carry the burden to save his homeland and his people. That sad :(
Arthas was Ner'zhul's knight to the end, to the point of sacrificing his identity. Arthas would forever lose his humor, his blunt approach, so that he could serve as a shell of flesh and bones for his master to inhabit and control. Such a shame that Arthas' ending was retconned.
the chant during the final scene where the camera zooms away from arthas to reveal icecrown is amazing... such a beautiful song, no wonder they reused it for wotlk
Damn! Nerzhul was awesome! Not only he created the Scourge and manage to follow the Burning Legion while deceiving it at the same time, but managed to undermine their whole invasion leading it to its downfall, and managed to rally the Scourge to foil Kil'Jaeden's agents, and attained his freedom from the Legion. If only Arthas and him would have been able to work together somehow, his cunning would have been compelling... too bad that didn't happen.
yes. my first game was warcraft 3 (and i think because of the same genre - i think would like warcraft 1 2 too). I tried to start playing wow - but mmorpg it is terrible genre for convincing any story line - always action, only running, the is no any chapters you can find, there is always regenerating enemies, can't concentrate on the story completely. And concerning plot - player wasn't given the chance to play for Arthas with whom fans lost so many times and solving his problems in the warcraft 3. Now i am afraid that elder scrolls series can be destroyed by this mmorpg-daemon invasion.
The moment it says « release me » and « release you » at the same time is so disturbing and revealing, I couldn’t think of a better phrase to summarise what’s happening in his head at that moment. That moment we know that Arthas is accepting his fate, the lich king putting an end to the last bit of hesitation he could have. I wish there will be a movie, and keeping this end just before the light turns off. Beautiful
I just cant wait to get my hands on warcraft 3 reforged, just to see these new cinematics in all their glory, this will be the most nostalgic moment of my life
That has to be Arthas man i am sure he lurks somewhere in that Maw of Shadowlands. Uther and Kael confirmed to be there it only makes sense for Arthas too.
So that we can wait another 9 years just that Blizzrard one shots him again in a 5min trailer? After Wotlk I hoped that evry new expansion is a return of the lich king expansion now instead of returning him they destroyed him forever. Rly trash game never gonna play it again...
This cinematic's music has to be the most epic thing i've ever heard in my life, and part of one of the greatest games i've ever played no doubt. The thing missing most from Blizzard games these days is Passion.... A fucking iphone card game? A brand new expac to their once king of the industry mmo that has less content than any previous expansions? I'm so dissapointed the Warcraft universe is going out in flames, all the beautiful childhood memories of commanding the many armies of azeroth to victory, the gripping story of a fallen hero that clenched my heart, and fighting off some of the ultimate baddies in the Burning Legion. I see the way Blizzard treats this franchise nowadays as nothing but neglect to their fans. Fuck you blizzard, fuck you.
+loser I almost agree with you...in terms of epicness it was a close second for me. This was so great, but please do me a favor and play portal + portal 2 asap...It made me cry like a bitch...I hope you'll like it
+Ada Wong blame activision for merging with blizzard, then buying the company off Vivendi and splitting from him. i want to pretend all the expansions after WotLK never happened.
***** Agreed, the classes were perfect too, they all had a single class mechanic that made their playstyle unique from one another, like warlocks having soul shards, hunters having ammo, warriors having rage, deathknights having runes and such, they were all different. now half the mechanics are just reskins of the same thing, like demonology has a reskined warriors rage bar. Rip the good old days.
+TheRoflcer Really? Personally I was immensely disappointed with it at the time. I think I still am. It all felt forced to me, a plot that would somehow result in us, the players, killing Arthas in a raid. I just felt that it wasn't the same cunning, scheming Lich King that we were fighting, rather an arrogant, bored ruler that wanted to conquer Azeroth for no real reason. The Lich King had a bone to pick with the Legion, not with the rest of Azeroth. I'm not saying he ever cared for the Horde or the Alliance, of course not, but it was never his goal to destroy them. Attacking BOTH the Horde and the Alliance was not bold, but very arrogant and once again, a plot driven by our MMO needs (rather than storytelling for storytelling's sake). The real Lich King would have waited for the Legion to arrive and fight with the Horde and the Alliance, then decimate the Legion or perhaps, both. The Lich King's voice acting was also a big letdown for me as Arthas' crude humor as a death knight was gone, and so was Ner'zhul's voice. The new one tried to be chilling, but the extremely slow pace ended up being a little meh for me, personally. It just didn't feel like the same character.
I played warcraft 3 frozen throne for 6 years (2003-2009). Bring back memories in Lordaeron, respect all the players from clan NEt, cmv, ArC, WeST, NLR, Mx, SRt, LNR, skyz, PILI, TWK, zL, nX, EzR, CrC.
Strange... Ever since switching to Windows 8.1, the cinematic of Warcraft III went black on me. :/ Well, anyway... You don't notice how it went when you played the campaign, because everything was so intense you mostly focus on the gameplay. With the exception of those few who cheat to get the story, you only piece the story together after everything was said and done. Sylvanas was freed from the Lich King's grasp, so when there were signs of Arthas being weakened, there would be those who hoped the same happened to him. Then, this scene happened. They eagerly waited for Arthas to get his freedom from the Orc Shaman tyrant who has been controlling him for so long we don't even remember. You would hope Arthas could get a chance at redemption. But no. For the sake of a good story. For the sake of a good story, the body of Ner'zhul was nowhere to be seen. Just then, Arthas grabbed the evil being's helmet. He then wore it, and suddenly, something came to you. The Lich King lost grasp of Sylvanas immediately, while Arthas was weakened alongside Ner'zhul. It's as if Sylvanas was just a puppet; while Arthas... has had such a connection with the Lich King. After those few seconds, you hear the line: "NOW... WE, ARE ONE." In horror, you look as the screen go white. After which, you look in both awe and melancholy, as our prince is seated, frozen on his throne, looking down upon his desolate "Kingdom", as one of those dramatic pieces of gameplay music played. It dawned on you. All hope is lost. Our Prince is 99% dead, and our Jaina's lover-boy is no more. In his place, sit the most terrifying, powerful, and loneliest being, known to Azeroth. His Scourge is opposed by everything known: the Alliance, the Horde, the Legion and the Sentinels. tl;dr + Conclusion: In the end, the story of Arthas Menethil was not a glorious epic like that of Arthur Pendragon. It was a tragedy. Say what you want about this "asshole" and "murderer"; he is, in the end, the greatest victim of the Undeath Plague.
@@RealKhalon These are some of the lyrics of the song that is playing after it shows him sitting atop The Frozen Throne, at least that's what they mean in our common tongue. It just makes it more heartbreaking.
Dr4gonDestroyer Oh yeah I totally remember when the humans teamed up with orcs to save them yeah totally lol. The movie doesn't even correctly pertain to any warcraft plotline.
The most epic cinematic in history that is part of the best game I've played, between tears I remember this 15 years after having enjoyed that masterpiece, I keep playing every week but nothing compares to Warcraft 3.
+Joseph Cordova Starting to look like that with what they did in WoD, and what they're planning in Legion unfortunately. I wish the old Blizz can find a way to fix WoW and make it a TRUE RPG again somehow, soon enough. :(
Arthas was the greatest villain I have encountered in any fantasy or fiction. His tale is unlike any other, but like all other good villains, there had to be an end. He may be dead now, but if I were given the choice, I would not change how he died. What makes him so different is that with his death comes not the end, but the resolution. Azeroth learned a prime example from Arthas' life, and from it, Azeroth will be better prepared for any darkness that rises again.
Over 15 years I've been waiting for the moment we see Arthas redeem himself and finally the moment might finally be coming in the Shadowlands. I for one sincerely wish they do him justice.
This is my favorite cinematic of all time. My only complaint is that they fucked up the INCREDIBLE ending music (from 2:17) when they turned into an actual track, "Invincible." It utterly betrays the spirit of the OG tune; Invincible is swelling and rich and orchestral, while this music is bleak and dark, meant to evoke feelings of emptiness, hopelessness, and despair.
Ovidiu Diumea Oh sure, it's a fine song and they did a good job if they wanted to make a big orchestral version based off the melody. I just wish they had done something more in the spirit of the cinematic's version.
After playing WoW I had forgotten that warcraft actually had a genuine epic storyline. I completed both campaings lately and when i watched this then for the first time in a long time I remembered how I used to feel.
The way he just sits at the throne with the music playing is heartbreaking.

It didn't make much sense since all the others were dialogues from Arthas' old friends like Uther and Muradin from earlier chapters but that one was from Medivh, a stranger to Arthas.
"You lied to your men and betrayed the fans who followed you...What happened to you Blizzard?"
Lol. And all we have now is this mobile online crap.
Arthas was everyone of us, driven mad by young ideals and ambition, making mistakes and in the end paying the ultimate price.
THIS is most epic ending scene ever. Thanks Blizzard for this masterpiece.
The music at the end still stands as the most perfect and appropriate background in any video game cinematic I've seen, aside from maybe "Morituri te Salutant" in the intro for Brood War.
9 years and arthas still rules 99% of the wow community :)
Illidan sucks.
Illidan vs Arthas (not Lich King yet) >>> Arthas win. Arthas's the best.
Blizz lore lied. It did arrange the story to justify Arthas's victory.

Apparently Blizzard doesn't agree. They pretty much completely wrote out Ner'Zhul in such a lame way.
Hi
@@acolyte1951 i'll bring you back to the light
My life for Aiur! *pause* I mean Ner'Zhul
The scene of Arthas putting on the Helm of Dominance is purely magical. Spellbinding.
"Now we are one."
It's like Blizzard in the form of Ner'zhul, telling the player, in the form of Arthas, that they are now "one".

That's..... Strangely relatable
I only have to say this:We will remember you, thanks for lots of fun and great memories, you shall never be forgotten.
Nice, what is your opinion on reforged?
I feel so sorry for you man.
I'll always remember these scenes as being thee end of WarCraft; (Closes the series' trilogy book and ignores anything thereafter).
"You're sitting on a throne, on that glorious mountain, with a crown on your head, and yet you're lesser than you've ever been"
2:15 Makes me feel kind of sad, but it's my favorite moment in any cinematic ever. Everything is on point. They nailed it with music, too. Wish they kept that dark green gloomy atmosphere in WotLK and made him harder to kill.
It should have ended right there, the whole story.... to remain epic as it was....
Omg, imagine. The Frozen Throne must stay frozen. Now Arthas must sit there for all eternity being a legend as he is.
WoW ruined it :/
"The evil of the cold north knows no sleep or mercy"
Agreed, they kinda botched but WOTLK *was* fun.
I consider this the crowning moment of awesome in Warcraft. It will never be better than this.
Bekir Can Celep WoW made warcraft mainstream even though if wow didnt exist dota & lol was going to make it mainstream xD
I still remember the first time I finisched FT. When Arthas is climbing the throne I kept hoping that it was all a ruse, that he would kill the Lich King. But then. .. the tragic ending, what a masterpiece of a game this was.
All those fking years all of them i didn't notice how frostmourne's light turned off as soon as arthas fell asleep 2:17
How the hell did you even notice that?! Holy shit... Excellent attention to detail, man. Just like that being an excellent detail.
In my opinion, thats how Warcraft Lore should've ended. Arthas being king sitting on his throne in the frozen wastes of Northrend. Epic Ending to a story. Everything after that is just... not right. Music is breath taking. Hearing it again after so long brings back memories instant. To think some "champions" are killing or already killed every greater being in WOW Lore, Titans, Dragons and Gods... ugh.
Still waiting for the TRUE sequel to this.
Uhm WoW WOTLK
@@plague6174 no, Warcraft 4.
A pasado tanto tiempo desde aquel final épico y sigo sintiendo lo mismo que aquella vez
Stop making he sounds like an hero, he wasnt, everything he did, he did on his own. He choose that.
The road to Hell.....
@@CynicalGamingBlogTerry309 indeed
The game and everything about it is just epic.
2:13 is make this cinematic epic the music playing is heartbreaking and awe
Galten Arthas and Ner'zhul-Lich King,it means that there is no more Ner'zhul and Arthas. Only Lich King. Get it?
the chant during the final scene where the camera zooms away from arthas to reveal icecrown is amazing... such a beautiful song, no wonder they reused it for wotlk
god bless you Arthas.. you are warcraft
This will always be one of the best cinematics ever made. The suspense and emotions, still gives me goosebumps!
The cinematics in Warcraft was so ahead of its time it is so fucking insane. This game is my whole childhood.
16 years later this cinematic is still one of my favourite. Thank you Blizzard.
The last breath of REAL Warcraft.
Imagine a real-action WoW movie with Arthas where the movie ends the same way this clip does at 2:16. Wouldn't that give you chills?
that would be so good, i would probably cry in the theatre
Gives me chills everytime that song plays after 16 years

All to get the POWER.
And he won.

The story of Warcraft stops here and real fans are till this day waiting for Warcraft 4.
yes. my first game was warcraft 3 (and i think because of the same genre - i think would like warcraft 1 2 too).
I'm waiting too for Warcraft 4. I don't play WoW, I can't understand this game. Warcraft 3 was a master piece.
mmorpg is terrible genera - it kills any canon, any lot
Inb4 Warcraft 4 starts on Battle For Azeroth
The moment it says « release me » and « release you » at the same time is so disturbing and revealing, I couldn’t think of a better phrase to summarise what’s happening in his head at that moment. That moment we know that Arthas is accepting his fate, the lich king putting an end to the last bit of hesitation he could have. I wish there will be a movie, and keeping this end just before the light turns off. Beautiful
I keep coming back to this irregularly, the chills never fail to manifest.
Gives me chills too!
The most brilliant ending of any game i ever played.
For some reason after this last shadowlands cinematic, this is really nostalgic.

I really do hope in the end of the new expansion that Bolvar is going to recreate the crown somehow and still rule as the Lich King
That has to be Arthas man i am sure he lurks somewhere in that Maw of Shadowlands. Uther and Kael confirmed to be there it only makes sense for Arthas too.
Hopefully I will :(
So that we can wait another 9 years just that Blizzrard one shots him again in a 5min trailer? After Wotlk I hoped that evry new expansion is a return of the lich king expansion now instead of returning him they destroyed him forever. Rly trash game never gonna play it again...
They will bring Arthas back
It will be Arthas redemption expansion. I feel like that. The king freed from his shackles, with his mind being freed etc etc :D
Fuck you blizzard, fuck you.

darkbeat101 I want to pretend WOW never happened either :( Fucking Blizzard changed man, that's what happened.
+Ada Wong blame activision for merging with blizzard, then buying the company off Vivendi and splitting from him. i want to pretend all the expansions after WotLK never happened.
+darkbeat101 As bad as WOW is nowadays, the WOTLK expansion in my opinion was a perfect end to this storyline.
Well, anyway...
After those few seconds, you hear the line:
"NOW... WE, ARE ONE."
In horror, you look as the screen go white.
Say what you want about this "asshole" and "murderer"; he is, in the end, the greatest victim of the Undeath Plague.
;_;
I cheated on the story. I cheated on about all of the missions, so now I'm replaying the game.

An Karanir Thanagor
Its not o thanagor, lyrics are completely differnet in TFT version(which is the original)
This is also the ending of the whole warcraft story for me. A perfect ending. A threath still remains but there are no unfinished story lines.
This ending brings an eternal sorrow... and it's a good feeling.
Over 15 years I've been waiting for the moment we see Arthas redeem himself and finally the moment might finally be coming in the Shadowlands. I for one sincerely wish they do him justice.
I have always liked much more the original version of "O Thanagor" that was shown here than the iconic one of WLK
True, it's much more tragic, melancholic and devastating.
Bro I'm so jealous I wasn't born in the 90s so I could experience this masterpiece in 2003. I'm younger than Warcraft III xD
It was a crazy time of LAN pc gaming ;)
This is my favorite cinematic of all time. My only complaint is that they fucked up the INCREDIBLE ending music (from 2:17) when they turned into an actual track, "Invincible." It utterly betrays the spirit of the OG tune; Invincible is swelling and rich and orchestral, while this music is bleak and dark, meant to evoke feelings of emptiness, hopelessness, and despair.
Yeah I agree. Still, Invincible ain't bad at all, for what it is.
Ovidiu Diumea Oh sure, it's a fine song and they did a good job if they wanted to make a big orchestral version based off the melody. I just wish they had done something more in the spirit of the cinematic's version.
talismar96 When they turned the music into Invincible, the tone was still dark.
