Thanks for showing off my map :) It's the first GMod map I ever made so I thought it would be funny to do something weird
I didn't make any of the textures or models aside from the one used for the panorama to display on, they were all from the original 3d tour site and I converted them so they could be used in GMod. Making the actual BSP so you could walk around in it took the most time since I never used the Hammer Editor before.

I was actually considering doing this honestly, but I don't even know the first thing on map making in Gmod, so well done dude, I'm glad this still lives on somewhere.

Wow, did not expect to see the "Find the bathtub" house turned into a gmod map.
Also, from what I remember reading about it back when it was a meme, the house was once a church and then a school before. The owner was an amazon reseller, hence the boxes and labels everywhere, and was actually arrested and charged for engaging in organized crime, as well as stolen property. According to Know Your Meme, the place was under investigation for a fencing operation since 2010.

I remember this house because there was an online challenge to find the bathtub via navigating a 3D model of it. This is a really cool map and has some backroom vibes. A 10 player free-for-all match would be fun here.
Kinda screams more "That one friends house" and "Black market" vibes but I guess that's just me.

@@commodore7331hes right tho, you can literally port gmod maps in BO3 Zombies (which i have played), so clearly porting maps into games isnt that hard. If all the meshes where fully modeled and not doodoo looking then yea be way more impressive.
I've gotta say, it's pretty invasive and uncomfortable for some random person to make a whole map out of Dunkey's house.

The most impressive thing about this for me is that there's a cramped interior map in Gmod that isn't constantly blocking your movement and feeling slightly smaller than it would IRL. They did such a good job with the scaling of the map
Idk how gmod works but he probably did the hitboxes manually to make the movement smooth

The house used to make this map was 8800 Blue Lick Rd, Louisville Kentucky. It was originally a church built in the 1950's with the 2 larger portions added later, when it was also converted into a christian schoolhouse. It was actually still a church until around 2011 when it was purchased by Tony Curtis to be used as a home & storage space for his business. He purchased wares in bulk from places like flea markets and resold them on ebay and amazon for profit. The images used to make the panoramas were taken in October 2020, and took the photographer over 3 hours. The chonk of a cat is named Loco, and the strange bathtub was converted from a baptism tub.
I love the way how it looks so realistic yet so low quality idk why but I really do like that style

I'd imagine it being a pre-war horder, who died unaware of what was happening outside their doors.
That or maybe a scavenger who got lost in all the boxes and shelves before dying from natural causes or something.

Yo this would be so sick applied to the entire Google Street View database. Imagine being able to just walk around or drive around in Gmod
Google is testing it, not in Gmod obviously, but it's very likely it will be implemented since they have tons of AI and tons of computing power, so processing the panoramas and using AI to create a 3D scene would be easy for Google to pull off

I remember doing an interactive view of this house with my friend, (we had to find it on a very sketchy site because of the original being taken down) and just laughing our asses off at the insane amount of monster energy you can find in the house
Same here, but instead we laughed at the copious amounts of porn and random books in various languages throughout the house. Apparently he was an Amazon reseller and got busted by the cops.

I remember sitting in a discord server for what must have been 6 hours giving a victual tour to about a dozen people. There was just so much to look at and analyze. Beyond impressive that someone managed to turn this in to a map.
imagine if you could recreate the 3D rendering the exact same way as the pictures, in the future, "inviting friends over" would mean inviting them to a gmod map of your house

Definitely a fun trip through it!
Satellites used it back in 1957, and in 1999 it became more available online. However, it being used to make 3D models was as early as 2008. I do assume Necros means 3D models, so that's 2008, but it's still fairly old technology. 2 years difference between Gmod's release, and this tech. However, I know a lot of people feel that that's not actually old.
Bonyoze is quite an amazing man to be honest, he did well on this map.

I'd honestly like living in a place like that (y'know, without it looking like a hoarder mess with URINALS) as someone who loses and can't find shit whenever I need them the most WAY too many times, something about having a bunch of organized clean objects in your house on shelves in a special room whenever you need them seems pretty nice

This house has actually been roaming the internet for a really long time.
If you have a house like this, you can literally film backrooms-esque ARG without going outside or using any CGI
I can't wait to see how this technology improves. This definitely looks like a very big step on the road to photorealism in games, even more so by manually adding in reflective surfaces.
I’d love to do this to places I’ve been, or my old home, and scan it in so I can walk through and play it with a game engine. Especially since GMOD supports VR so I can just dive in

This is pretty damn cool! Although the mesh seems to be either optimized or it was generated in low poly, it's still interesting to see that 1:1 scale of the interior in Gmod!

12:04 I've never heard someone express this sentiment before, I always thought I was the only one. As a 22 year old guy, it's probably strange for someone of my demographic to love antique shops so much. But they really are fun to explore, because it's often an old house or building converted, and you often stumble upon these old secret rooms in hard-to-reach places. Antique shops are like free-for-alls, to just explore an entire building filled with old forgotten relics.

Ive seen this place before, used to be a popular area online I think, cuz I remember the layout a couple of times especially that one area in the kitchen with the table with boxes in the middle. Very cool that they could turn it in a map for high quality panoramas. Pretty sick ngl

DICE used photogrammetry in their Battlefront games, scanning scenes from the films and locations from the films to recreate them realistically.
Game looked great and ran at 60fps on console back in 2015.

I saw map about a month ago and to say that I was getting my mind blown by how much the how expanded would be a understatement. At first I just thought it was just a house with some weird exit signs, then I saw the storage FULL of stuff

This. Is trippy. Seeing Garry’s Mod elements and models in a real life setting like this that is fully explorable is insane. If enough time is put into it, I could put my room into a video game. This game still uses an arguably out of date engine and it’s able to pull off real-life areas in game.

This house looks like if my grandpa lived alone. All of his tables just have stuff piled on like that. He saves literally everything like it's going to be of use to have a broken chip clip, dried out pens and sharpies, etc.
It honestly is insane to me. And always the main contender of "this is worth $xx amount." But he never intends to sell any of it so I don't get the thought process.
I think for him it's like the more stuff he owns, the more valuable he feels. But it's not much value when you have a ton of cheap or broken junk. And that leaves no room to have actually nice things.

Imagine how sick it would be to poll Ring/Wyze/Blink camera data and update the textures in real time (or at least hourly) to get an exploreable live look at your inventory.
I am ashamed that I knew exactly what house this was immediately. Nothing else like it exists.
Very interesting! The best part is that if you squint just hard enough, it looks very photorealistic (for the fact that the creator used panoramas to make these photogrammetry models).
Definitely looks like multiple people lived there. Every room had its own thing going on. That utility room was nice. The layout of the building looked like an older apartment complex or one of those "it was a half underground church turned apartments" type of layout. Whoever had the cat seemed to be the most messy either that or that was just the area the cat was allowed. It's interesting some of those boxes are older. I noticed an older Mountain Dew box in there.
From my understanding, the building actually used to be a church before converted into half living space half amazon reselling storage place.
What was missed in this youtube tour of the building is the big ass bathtub that definitely used to be a baptism tub.
I think this is absolutley crazy to how much gmod has evolved.

I remeber the first time I got exposed to this house, the original website was still up. But the thing was, you explore this giant place with a maze of boxes in one area, and your main goal was to find the ONLY bathtub in the whole building.
Lmao this looks like as if someone took their 360 camera and scanned entire areas, convert it to 3d, make it a map, transport it to gmod, and called it a day.
I mean that is literally what this is. Except it was someone elses 360 camera shots, from some kinda realtor house tour kinda thing.

The story of this house is so weird, it's a former church in Louisville KY. In 2014, The owner was arrested for buying/selling stolen items on eBay and Amazon. It went viral in 2020 when the time it was listed on Redfin when there was a challenge to find the old baptism bath.
I love how they tape items on all the boxes to organize like they're item frames.

This is the type of house/home I dream about. It's a normal familiar looking house, yet there's something so off about it. It's even more surreal and dreamlike than a liminal space you'd see in real life, though. From the get-go, we saw a bathroom with two toilets in it, side by side haha. Yeah, the building was initially the size of a normal home, but then he revealed the full scope of the map, and we saw that the house was connected to an equally sized building, which is just so random and.. surreal.

Scanned rooms that can be freely explored without blur or distortion have already been created (see Varjo's example rooms) but require extensive multiangle LIDAR photogrammetry.
That thumbnail is hella misleading tho, fix that

Neural Radiance Fields is able to scan reflective surfaces and it can capture the material of objects, so you are gettin realistic textures out of it

that fire alarm on the wall is a 2903, and they're like an icon for older systems from the 80s
The fire alarms and bathrooms are cause it used to be a small school and church before being converted to a house.
