I had a brand new RD 400/1976, and I remember those “squishy” grips, eased the vibrations off the engine. I really wish they still produced 2 stroke engines, they have the technology to deal with air pollution and environmental issues. 👍🇨🇦
'71 CS200 was the first real motorcycle I ever had, looked just like this one. I got it when I turned 14 from my uncle who had it in a shed for about 6 years. My dad and I got it running, I made a few dirt bike modifications because I lived on a dirt road with miles and miles of farm land to ride on. All my other friends had bikes like DR 200, XT 200, XL 200's etc, mine was the only "street" bike. But was by far the fastest and most powerful of them all. I loved that bike and even after 2 years of the abuse I threw at it, it held together very well. I ended up passing it on to a younger cousin after I got a car, he rode it for years too.
Crank seal tip: Leaking crank seals can be a problem on these old 2-strokes, and rebuilding a twin-cylinder crank to replace them isn't easy. If the bike is smoking excessively, it probably means that the inner seals have hardened and are no longer sealing. Drain out some of the transmission oil and replace it with transmission stopleak, that may soften the seals enough to fix the problem. Or, if you have the cases split, pour some stopleak on and around the seals and let it soak for a day or two. You're welcome.
You can tell he was a guy that took pride in his stuff looking good. To see that filter in that shape I assume the carbs will look the same. Your gonna end up uncovering the beauty that this guy put away 11 years ago and wind up with a really cool/fun vintage bike!!
@@LandonMartien Any good mechanic will tell you how much easier it is to work on a clean bike. Adding an extra half hour for a good hose down is no big deal it's just lazy.
How can you work on it without washing it first. It’s manky and the poor thing needs to be cleaned before messing with it. Also don’t ‘clean’ the chrome with a dry paper towel
That was an absolute steal for $50. It is in immaculate condition just a tad dirty which is rare. Usually a motorcycle that has been sitting is a rusted piece of garbage but that bike was obviously stored in a nice dry, clean and somewhat warm area which is probably why it still looks so good.
The RD Great bike. I had a 1978 RD400 silver color when I was 17. 59 now looking to get another one same year. The sound of 2 stroke and ride is great.
1. Wash 2. Remove carbs (ultra sonic cleaning) 3. Add MM oil to cylinders 4. Use a compression guage to see the compression #'s. 5. Check/lightly sand points and/or gap points 6. When you have confirmed spark, add fuel/oil mix to cylinders to try briefly start. 7. Begin total renovation/parts availability
Bullshit. Chrome is hard, paper will not scratch chrome. But if you use paper on dirty parts the sand in the dirt will scratch paint and chrome. Always use soapy water to remove dirt or a power washer

@@fightzoid Same here. I live in WV an went to switch the title to this state an the ppl at the DMV asked if i used to live there. Well of course! Haha. Not really though. I'd say the first thing to do if allowed beford putting the bike on the truck ,take out the sparkolators, add some penetrating oil, return sparkers then let the bouncing on the way home help the oil to lubricate everything, then give it a rinse off at home

Hey man, so if you take an empty cleaned quart of oil bottle, poke a hole through the lid, thread a gas line through and get a tight seal. Make sure the line touches the bottom of the bottle and have plenty of line in the other side. Thread on the cap, and you can just put the line where you want, and you can just squeeze the bottle and gas comes out
I had a Yamaha 200 twin cylinder. But didn't really look like that. Mine was mostly purple and the gas take was kind of pointy in front. I work as a groundskeeper at an apartment complex in Atanta adn some guy moved out and left it there. I think he went to Emory. Anyway, it ran, even though it smoked out of one cylinder. I have the round headlight assembly and the lamp is with 12 LED right forward beam side plus 12 LED left forward beam with halogen in the center of the bucket for motorcycle's front bracket of the fork. The assembly is brand new that I bought in 3 months ago and it works bright in the detail box. I can have sale price for it. The bracket is right and left side for beryl chromed plated at the front of the handlebar Yamaha. My new black bracket with two clamps have 3 holes on each side. The 2 grips around the forks near the tree of the handlebar. These bracket set inside another detail box also 3 month old - The grip is the clamp - 6 holes total bracket includes 2 of the 6 holes are for mounting with stainless steel bolt x 2. It can hold the halogen socket made out of plastic color black bucket with ring (plastic color black trim) around the light 6 1/2 inch includes 9 wires. You have tachometer with the cable and spinning inside the flexible conduit. The rotation connected at the back of Tachometer. The cable is connected to the hub of the front wheel. When the wheel rolls that makes the tachometer roll with its finger instead of speedometer. I like it - I don't need speedometer because the motorcycle is very loud 8,000 RPM, 5th gear equals 50 MPH. When you see a cop then I must go down to 1,500 rpm, 5th gear on 250cc motorbike.
Is this one of those Yami,s with the roundhouse gearbox…you be cranking along shifting gears when….you go from fourth to first, wheely over backwards? Whoever thought that up?

The Engine as shown in video is Yamaha, and it goes fast like 2 stroke 400cc CAFE Racer's favorite that it out beat a lot of other 4 stroke Racing motorcycle named Hawk 400cc Low profile electric start Cruising bike.
Nope, no starter motor for 400cc Yamaha Twin 2 Stroker. 200cc didn't have the option of add on starter motor. The starter is a relay for switch "ON" the twin capacitors and off switch timer with the distributor in 200cc case includes stator in the housing. The starter switch on your handle was you pull the another gasoline motor trimmer (line or string). The connection cranking system must be able to coupling up the trimmer/chainsaw motor on the side of lower engine Yamaha. The small motor got to crank up the bigger 200cc motor side by side. Already, you added the ATF little oil into the cylinder atop the pistons' rings that is the only way for the fire it up and running good. The used running pistons' rings is better than brand new rings and brand new pistons because wear out will increase the compression. After the engine 200cc runs loud at900 RPM that disengage the small motor so it goes back to the chainsaw bar. Use the clutch on the smaller motor because without the clutch - it won't start. The second bigger clutch for 6 speed tranny of Yamaha 200cc is good and already avail or test it, Said by the Inspector from the DMV in whether the clutch of the tranny with upfront 200cc is badly worn out... Thank you.
I have a suspicion that this was my old bike. I repainted it a magenta color and have never seen another one like it. I traded it in while I was in the USAF in Wichita, KS around 84 or 85.

when I was a lad, the RC200 was the pinnacle of small bikes (a 750cc anything being a `Mans Bike`) then, the 350 came along, they all rushed to sell their 250`s, then the 350LC came along, we were all baffled as to the difference-they all looked the same to us! we weren`t old enough to be bikers, they all had a hell of a Rep` for what they were mind you, in the right hands, they could take on a 750!
when you said oh there’s a VIN I was looking for the dog lol
So many endless possibilities with this bike!! Great 👍 find!!!
Cool vid, love the old Patina!!!! 👍👍👍
Hey man, so if you take an empty cleaned quart of oil bottle, poke a hole through the lid, thread a gas line through and get a tight seal. Make sure the line touches the bottom of the bottle and have plenty of line in the other side. Thread on the cap, and you can just put the line where you want, and you can just squeeze the bottle and gas comes out
Oh the 200 a real barn fined .
They gave it to me, but it was stolen soon afterwards.
Gonna check out your 2 Stoke vid.
Nice find..hope it turns out to be a good deal.. 50 bucks you've already won!
Nice vid, but jeez wipin it dry with all that dust on it NOoooooooo
I was cringing he's scratching it so bad lmao
Man, you are the best, in last week i watch only your content🤠, because i found your chanel last week ago.🤓
I like all what you do on the channel 🤤
Cheers🍻
I think vehicles 1972 or older do not have titles ... the registration was title
Is this one of those Yami,s with the roundhouse gearbox…you be cranking along shifting gears when….you go from fourth to first, wheely over backwards? Whoever thought that up?
more bike videos for sure. LOVE THE VIDS❤️
Got pieces of an RD 400 out back, planning on building it one of these days. Just takes a ton of free time, and we are busy as hell 5 1/2 days a week but it will be done, too cool not to. Great pick up bud!!
Man do you know what you just picked up? There is a huge market for those old 2 stroke road bikes. You could put 2k into rebuilding that thing and still make a profit on it
Awesome video man
Maybe clean it before taking plugs out. Don't want crap in the bores
Owned a 71 rd 250, what a fun bike that was.
Isnt the 350 the same engine as a banshee? I dont know if this model is the one but i know for sure due research that the banshee 350 has the engine of an old bike that looks like this
I saw a RD200 in a motorcycle graveyard last week. Seeing this video makes me wanna go and buy it now. 😂
Honestly I used to start with a good long pressure wash of ANY old bike. 😉
I think you could buy one in '71' NEW for around $700 ,knobbie tire on front??
the 200(only I think)has a dynastart where the charger is also the starter thats why the bigger battery and the big side casing. but what a bargain
Awesome videos! Keep em coming!
Just starts arcing random wires, huh it doesn't like that.no!!!!!!!!!!!!.Thats a good way to fry every peice of wiring in the bike, the bike looks real clean internally from that filter, bet its just fine.
Why don't you take the time to clean the bike before you start to work on it?
Ye Ol Tundra STILL needs new wiper blades. Giter done and Keeper Movin
Some fuel in the carb float chambers would have been useful!
Great bike was riding this in a field in the eighties i think it was stolen.☹👍
got yourself a bargain there mate they are worth a fortune even in that condition in the uk
I have a random question what kind of music do you like.
Yo if I were you...I'd definitely start washing these bikes before you start filming...the Couch Mob has sent you many warnings...Dont mess with those guys bro! Just wash the bikes..its not worth your life🤺....🤣🤣
I have an 81 just like this bike but mines a Yamaha bought it for 200$ change the oil and the spark plug and put a clutch handle on it runs great 🤟
Gotta ring the bell for this one
I watch almost all your videos, I do enjoy them. The only thing I wish you would do is clean them up first! That is what I do when repair or restoration, something now that's just me. You do a great job! I amit I'm old!, so yeah, do things differently . Just saying!!
Keep up the agin I do enjoy your videos. Thanks for your content
I traded it in while I was in the USAF in Wichita, KS around 84 or 85.
only thing that you do that makes no sense please don't get offended why don't you clean up purchases before you start to fix theme , then you don't have to worry about dirt getting into places you don't want. I learned so much from your channel thank you so much .
Quick fix for the slip on the kick start is cut a piece of aluminum can from a soda can and wrap it around the teeth of the kicker gear then slide the kick start on and tighten it
