    Thanks for this. The Audient UA-cam page is useless. It's just a constant ad for the unit as opposed to actual instructionals, which I don't get because it's free to upload longer videos.

    Nice update from Audient! This really gives the SSL2 a run for its money with those super clean preamps, flexible monitoring, and really well designed loopback function. Looks like they improved the taper of the gain controls as well, as their old "logarithmic" taper pots were really annoying to adjust at the top 10% of the gain range. Bravo, and thanks, Mike!

    Love my audient id14, been using it for about 5 years, not this newer model but the older one. Great quality. Consistently reliable. And i love that the DI is actually it's own channel, unlike other interfaces in similar price points, that share the same channel. Also better converters than other interfaces in a similar price range. Love the software UI too. Great piece of gear and necessary for professional work. 👍🎛🎙🎶🎶🎶🔊

      The DBX286s channel strip should work with any audio interface as it connects through XLR. @@Nathansomething Late to answer your question here but as someone with a dbx 286s (That I use for gating and de-essing) and an audient id14 mkii, the preamps on the id14 still affect the audio when routed through the dbx 286s into it, but there will be more self noise on your recordings in the background so there is a little trade off.
      Just make sure you connect to the id14 with a TSR to XLR input otherwise you'll be bypassing the preamps on a TSR Jack cable if used with the id14.

    I own this for about three years and it's beautiful piece of gear.
    I actually figured out how to use loopback in really complicated scenarios. Imagine you playing guitar and you singing throught the DAW, then routing thiis to the LOOP, then this sound goes to the Warzone and you playing guitar and singing for your teamates)) LOL that's always been fun.
    and after that you sending all this signals to OBS who collects them for streaming!)) that's crazy possibilities!

    For years I have been using Audient Interfaces hooked up to outboard preamps. The preamps I use are the Warm audio WA12 mkii, and the DBX 286s. I have now disconected both of those preamps from my intercaces and am now just using my interface which is the audient id14 Mkii. The sound im getting is great, It seems that with audient you have enough gain to run any microphone without needing an outboard preamp. I am going to upgrade the the ID44 soon as I need more than the ID14 can give me, but in the meantime the id14 is doing great.

      @Tim_ArtistName_Tallent 3 роки тому

      @@beforeyousleepmusicrelaxat7585 I bought mine second hand almost a year ago and have zero issues so far. So for upgrades check the website for revive audio. There are only two upgrades available for Audient, so I choose my model id44 as well as the second option, the time square clock upgrade. It’s gonna cost me $500(bday gift :) , but they told me this will make an already stellar unit, have even more headroom, lower noise, 3D sound, and an extended frequency response, and that they much more encourage an upgrade to a product like this that is already HQ, and take it two a whole new level, rather than something cheap and modding it to make it only compete with a stock item like audient , more bang for buck. But either way , I’ll follow up on this comment after I test my modded interface!
      This is Revive Audio’s description of the upgrade:
      Modification Services for Audient Series interfaces
      On the Audient Series interfaces we offer a wonderful audio path and converter upgrade that is affordable and sounds excellent with a very nice Price-to-Performance ratio.
      Simply select the model you have from the drop down menu.
      Once your service has been purchased you will be sent Work Order #, Mailing instructions and mailing form for sending you unit in.
      Once your service has been checked-in you will receive a confirmation of its arrival and your unit will be placed the Cue for modifications.
      Turn around is 3-5 business days for the completion of the work once the unit arrives at our facility.
      Audient Gold Modifications:
      Modifications feature a full Analog path modification for all channels of analog input and output using high performance Burr Brown and Linear Technologies Amplifiers for excellent low end response and an open top end.
      This includes every amp in every stage and a number of other performance modifications in the analog path for both in the input and output sections.
      The analog modifications on these interfaces offer a wonderfully warm front end at the analog inputs coupled with a very flat response output section for a precise representation of your mix, making great mixes easier.
      Converter De-coupling and coupling techniques are also used for an even broader and more accurate image of the audio from the converters for the full audio experience from these classy little desktop Interfaces.
      Platinum Series Modifications:
      We also offer an optional Time Square Clock Upgrade for this model for an additional $175.00 which is one of finest clocks we have ever heard for excellent detail and a jitter of .1ppm
      Then finally we perform a power supply modification for maximum bandwidth and headroom. The converters with the modifications sound excellent and easily as good as interfaces costing twice as much.
      With the modifications we get a lot more bandwidth, lower noise, cleaner and larger audio with a lot more headroom.
      The modifications on these really help to hear inside the mix for optimal tuning.
      Overall musicality is improved significantly in both packages and the audio image becomes clearer, smoother and well defined just like you would expect from a Revive Audio modified piece.

    Wasn't there SOME hiss when you had the Shure connected and gain all the way up? Right now I'm on a voyage of discovery whether I need a new interface (most probably I do but not immediately). So far, I worked on an NT1-A + Scarlett 2i2 setup and I needed a second mic for a two-person podcast. I went for the SM7B (why not, right?) I love the sound, the windscreen, and the visibility but the hiss is right up there even with a FetHead. No comparison to how silent the Rode is in that regard. Which got me worried. So, I checked online what's the deal. Long story short, I watched a Sweetwater comparison of 11 interfaces with the SM7B and I heard hiss from them a LOT. Now, I can hear a minuscule amount here but you claim it's quiet. Now I'm starting to think whether I'm a bit paranoid about the whole thing.

I like how you set the gain control on different mic inputs when you have screamy or reading sessions, but my audiobooks are a good mix of dynamics and so effortlessly switching between presets sounds ideal.

    You touched on the output option fairly well. So if I understand this correctly, you can have 4 monitors connected right? I noticed it’s labeled 1L, 2R, 3L, 4R. To me that means your left monitors will be plugged into 1 and 3, and your right monitors will be plugged into 2 and 4. The iD4 only has 2 outputs. How would you personally connect the ID4 to 4 monitors? I ask because I have the ID4, and I’m contemplating on upgrading to the 14 unless there’s a way to connect 4 monitors to the ID4, and be able to retain the left and right signal.

    Hi Mike. I purchased an ID14 about a year and a half ago so I was keen to find out about what's new on this new version. Did I miss something? Because it seems my model can do all this new model can do?

    • @hammerpocket

      It's just an update; I don't think they meant it to be a huge upgrade for people who already own the iD14. My favorite new feature is the USB-C connector, which provides enough power to no longer need the wall wart. (I don't need phantom power most of the time, so almost every time I plug in a condenser mic I end up puzzled for a few minutes about why it won't work.) The mkII also has an additional pair of analog outputs and a second headphone jack.

    I had massive problems understanding setup and the firmware always will never update, it sirs in the cupboard while I get on with a UA volt, I'm very unimpressed by Audient. I don't like the phantom switch either, which you could knock on easily and damage a pre....on xlr obviously....Volt is much easier.

    Mike, you did a review on the Stellar X2 Large Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser XLR Microphone and it was a great review, but is the Stellar X2 Vintage better for vocals, or just better or not? I noticed the Stellar X2 that you tested had a gold grill, and is that one actually a different build quality or better build quality?

    IS IT POSSIBLE TURN OFF the ID14 mk II PREAMP USING the ID-SOFTWARE? Like, feeding ID 14 from a DBX 286s's preamps - or would one need to have something like an ID 22 with inserts (?) and "shuttable" pres to really be able to benefit from an external preamp & compressor, gate etc, like DBX286s ?

    • @markuskajo903
      @markuskajo903 3 роки тому

      By "shuttable" preamp I mean a preamp that could be circumvented. Not used, that is.

    Audient sounds great but their reliability is not good. Had an iD22 fail on me within a short time only to find many threads on the internet with people dealing with the same issues. Hopefully Audient has stepped up their game with these newer interfaces as the SSL2 has undoubtedly changed the game. On a separate note, the SM7B sounds so warm and glorious on your voice. Much prefer it to the NT1. Thanks for the video.

    Hi, I’m hoping for some advice. There is so much info so I’m asking an expert. I want to try and get into audio book narration and I’m female with a relatively low voice. What mics do you recommend I try that would be complimentary. Budget is no more than $300, preferably lower. Also are you still a fan of reaper as the easiest editing software? Thanks in advance

  • @davidsayed

    I watched a video by Audient on their control software for this unit. In it they state that the two headphone outputs are connected to the same DAC. So there is no way to send two different mixes to two headphone outputs, and this is not something that will change through a software or firmware update since the hardware is designed that way. The EVO 8 supposedly allows for a different output to each headphone, but alas the software does not yet work with macOS Big Sur so I’ve not been able to test. Anyway, just wanted to flag this for people.

    Great review! For my purposes, the ID14 MK II is missing just two features: 1) A selectable 80Hz rumble filter on the pre-amp input; and 2) A DC input jack. The rumble filter shouldn't be needed in a booth, but many of us aren't in a booth and may be in an environment with lots of low-frequency noise. The DC input jack is nice, to be sure the thing has plenty of power, without worrying about power-over-USB.

    • @idolaudah2053
      @idolaudah2053 3 роки тому +3

      MK II uses USB C though and USB C to USB C allows for more power to the unit, hence no need for DC input which is honestly a plus for me because wall warts like what the old one came with should be outlawed by now

    Here comes a dumb question:
    How exactly do I get the decibel meter to reflect my input? The thing only ever moves when I play audio from the laptop it’s connected to if the Audient is selected as my output.
    Also, how are all three lights illuminated?

      I don't have them, but according to several testimonials, it's another world. If you make hard-hitting music, and need big, deep bass (hip hop, electro, etc.). The Twin is worth the cost !!!!
      Otherwise the Audient preamps and converters are already great and the best in this price range with the SSL2!

    can anyone answer this problem i have with the Audient ID14 MKII Audio Interface ? I find that the gain on the microphone is about a quarter of what I get on my previous interface. I have to have the mic full volume to just about be heard. I've tried it on 2 different computers with 2 different microphones and is the same. I am using good quality lavalier Tram mic. I spoke to audient about this and they said that the unit was faulty and to send it back. So I did that I've got a new unit and have exactly the same problem, there is nearly no gain/volume on the microphone. Any ideas any solutions any comparisons I would love to know about. If it is true this is a huge and stupid drawback to this unit. The other interface I have which I get plenty of volume on the Mic is a Rubix 22.
