- Stephen Walker, PhD is a Professor at Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine, Wake Forest School of Medicine. Arthur Krigsman, MD is a Pediatric Gastroenterologist practicing at a private practice in New York.
Their talk, titled 'Significant improvements (gastrointestinal, behavioral, cognitive) following standard-of-care treatment in children with ASD-associated enterocolitis: A longitudinal assessment' describes exciting findings of their recently completed Brain Foundation-sponsored study.
25 children diagnosed with ASD-associated enterocolitis were followed for one year during their standard-of-care treatment. Questionnaires designed to evaluate GI status (bowel movement symptoms and externalizing behaviors specific to ASD) and ASD behavior and cognition (VABS, ABC, and SRS) were collected at baseline and over the course of 12 months during treatment to assess longitudinal changes.
Although there was some individual variability in response to treatment throughout the year, for this group of 25 children statistically significant improvements were apparent in both GI and ASD symptoms starting at 3 months and persisting out to 12 months.
🎥 This talk was part of Synchrony 2023 Online Symposium - 'From Bench to Biopharma', organised by the The BRAIN Foundation.
