  • + just a general song detail (couldve been unintentional but whatever) i thought was cool
this is not even a meme, technically the thumbnail is a clickbait but idk what to use
"differences" in this video count as either new additions/changes in arrangement to the studio version or like, existing elements of it done differently to a noticeable degree (like in feral, the original is glitched up bleepy bloopy noises but its different bleepy bloopy noises u know)
radiohead is one of those bands where i think the live sets are worth listening to like, not just to see them play the same songs u have listened to 23982 times before bcs they change a lot of them up. yes this is a stupid nerd video im the type of guy to talk about how much a specific noise in a song fascinates me. i was holding back in this
most of these were taken from pro recordings so ill just say which set it was (unless they dont say in the title. then i put the link lol)
morning bell: • 09. Morning bell - Liv...
    idioteque: reading 2009
go to sleep: • Radiohead Go to slee...

my iron lung: • RADIOHEAD - MY IRON LU...
the glmoning: praha (that big comp project just look for radiohead praha)

0:50 fun fact, there are actually lyrics at that point but it’s hard to hear, but they’re actually some of my favorite Radiohead lyrics
“The lights are on but nobody's home
Everybody wants to be a friend
The lights are on but nobody's home
Nobody wants to be a slave
    Walkin', walkin', walkin', walkin'
    Walkin', walkin', walkin', walkin'
    Walkin', walkin', walkin', walkin'
    Walkin', walkin', walkin', walkin'”

I wish the studio version of The Gloaming was as funky as the live versions
Edit: I also love the outro of Morning Bell peformed live, sounds like a thousand demonic children screaming out in pain.
Colin using his cello (or upright bass?) to make the "whale noises" in the beginning of Pyramid Song was also really cool, I liked it way better than the bowed guitar.
Edit 2: Jonny's (or Ed's) guitar in 1997 Belfort's edition of Planet Telex, really badass as to how it sounded like a siren fading out.
Thom's rhythm guitar and his scatting in The National Anthem replacing the horns is also really cool. Jonny's radio in the song (and others) is also cool, adds a creepy and strange feeling to it.
Last but not least: Jonny himself. Dude goes apeshit on stage for seemingly no reason

oh one detail this reminded me of is something ive noticed in some live recordings of myxomatosis !! in the "that wasn't my intention, i did it for a reason" part ive seen them replicate the glitchy backup vocals by having ed sing the lyrics a beat after thom :D it sounds cool as hell i honestly wish they'd done it that way in the studio version

Morning Bell never did anything for me until I heard the version on 'I Might Be Wrong: Live Recordings' which I'm pretty sure is taken from that live performance you included. I was blown away when I heard that.
There's so many instances with Radiohead where I prefer the live performances. Sometimes there's subtle changes and sometimes the song is a whole other arrangement. One of my absolute favourites is Kid A live at Berlin 2000. I also adore the early live versions of Down Is The New Up, especially the performance at MSG 06. Just a whole different fun vibe to the song.

    • @smekmaskinen3486

yess i had the exact same experience with morning bell! its super cool how one small change can just boost one's appreciation for a song like that! kid a live is great too and i actually hadnt heard that performance of the new up, but listening to it now omg this arrangement of it is great too. another song i love live is in limbo (the in a tent performance specifically) i should've included in this vid... the lagging, glitchy guitar flourishes are *chefs kiss*

Exit Music at Bonnaroo 2006 Jonny does this eerie treble pick in the verse before the drums kick in. Absolutely haunting, stuck with me since that night seeing it there live, and fortunately the band finally uploaded the footage to UA-cam.
Also, You, Maquiladora, and ACPG, and well most of their Live at Atoria London DVD are wild, and my preferred versions of most of these songs for some of the parts that are played and effects that are used
