'Any noticeable phils' nice 👌
James Robinson 😆😉
you da man Joey Sorry for oyur loss
Thank you 🙏
I’m very sorry for your loss, Joe.
I know I’m a year late but I know how hard it is to loose a grandmother I grew up with her and it’s been over six years you have my condolences
Thank you 🙏 😔
I’m sorry for your loss, thanks for the video also.
I keep coming back to watch this lol. can't wait until i'm able to record stuff like this. thank you for your inspiration
Thank you for sharing this !
I really love this community on this channel. I think it’s amazing. Sorry for your loss as well.
Man you are doing god's work!
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better!
Have been watching a lot of videos about making music. Most of the content on UA-cam is just so superficial compared to yours. I realize how much there is to learn watching your videos: theory, skills of playing, production, gear and even video editing.
I pray for the right camera angles when looking for live footage to play the song as accurately as possible too hahahaah. That's insane. I thought i was crazy and my ocd was taking over. I also try to look for acoustic versions of the songs played by thom, jonny or ed, so i can make sense of what am hearing on the recorded version with all the effects. Cool man! Keep on doing these!
Originally was going to comment here but then didn't but decided to come back to say something because you deserve it. Have watched most of your videos for the past months and you have such a great channel. It's so cool to see some of my favorite songs in a live setting, especially the ones that I haven't seen live videos of. Also awesome that besides Radiohead you also for example do Interpol covers which is a band I love and you also cover some other great artists I enjoy. I mostly wanted to leave a comment though because you also seem like such a genuine person with no ego and so much passion for what you're doing, and someone who also is putting in so much effort in helping other people get better at music with great tutorials. So much respect man and please keep it up :)
Healisem thank you for your comment, that’s so nice of you to say! I do love what I do and want to inspire others, so I’m glad that comes across.
Man! Congratulations. Such a great work. Keep posting!
Joe your a whole band in itself! Amazing talent my friend.
Hey Joe, thank you for the video! Keep up the great work :)
Muchas gracias!
Perfect! I actually asked about your process the other day. Thank you for this
You deserve a lot of god things! keep on bro!
Man, thanks for this amazing content. Maybe later on you can show us how to recreate an specific sound using this steps. for example recreating drums. Feeling really grateful for this as i'm planning to do a full band cover before quarantine is over.
insightful!
I know I’m late, but thank you so much for going through the effort of making a tab. Now I can finally learn this song :)
You know you just showed your entire itunes library content to us peasants right? When's the Mastodon covers coming? Pendulous Skin?
Jokes aside, we all knew you did an insane amount of work to make these things sound amazing. You're super inspiring, i would be super proud to do even one cover half as well as you have done your countless dozens.
You seriously taught me so much about recording in this video.
Super underrated edit at 13:08.
Haha I’ll get to the Mastodon after the Katrina and the Waves 😂 thank you!!
At 1.00 minute onwards.......... Do more do more do more .....👍👍👍
great work!
This video is absolutely incredible, thank you so much! I love the idea of using a parallel devil loc in the vocal chain, I’ve never thought about that before but I’ll have to give it a go on the next mix!
Great idea! i dont know many yt performers who would make a video like this. This is really interesting. You deserve far more subscribers than you currently have
Top notch work! Really useful and informative video!! Might actually know enough now to start attempting my own covers, haha
That’s my hope! 👍
why youtube didn't notfify me when this was uploaded, great video joe
Hey Joe, fantastic video as always! It amazes me that someone with 12k subs is shitting on UA-camrs with millions of subs in terms of quality. You've made a few videos on the guitar work of Radiohead's guitarists bit I was wondering if you ever intend on making videos on the drums and bass in Radiohead songs. I'd love if you did as Colin and Phil are one of my favorite rhythm sections in music.
Now it's more clear to see how these covers are the most realistic and precise ones on the internet. Talent and passion meets with the right equipment and professional use.
Is this your garage or another room in the house? Have you had any troubles with the neighbors?
john reese thank you ☺️ it is a basement in a stand-alone house, and no thankfully not 😅
@@JoeEdelmann3 Damn your neighbours must be Radiohead fans then haha
A great video, as always. Really inspiring. Thanks Joe!
Fantastic content you create, well done and keep it up!
I'm very happy to see your channel growing, you deserve that! so sorry about your grandmother, but this is life isn't it? You surely inspired so many people including myself. I have been a big fan of your covers and before I know it, I started recording two songs and uploaded one already. I have never decided to sing, always like to play music but believed that my voice is not good enough to use it. I used to work on some music projects and ask people for help (singing it) but I never got help from anyone and thus, had to ignore all of my music projects. Now I changed my mind, even if my voice is not good enough, I believe it is just like any instrument I learnt. If I keep practicing and working, it will surely get better one day. I'm an engineering student and in my spare time I like to record music, I only own Focusrite scarlit 2i2 and I basically use Garageband and Ableton live for everything I make (which is nothing comparing to what I saw in your video) but I'm happy cause I'm doing all of the work myself. Thank you for inspiring me and others. If you had to see my latest work, would be an honor to hear feedback from the person that inspired me! Keep uploading! Greetings from Egypt!
Morion13 I am so happy to hear that I inspired you. It sounds like you have the beginnings of a great setup, and the right attitude to go with it. I listened to your cover of “Nude” - you did a great job! I know that song is not easy to sing, and I loved the way you translated the percussion to the acoustic. Keep doing it man, looking forward to seeing your growth! 👍
@@JoeEdelmann3 Just woke up on your beautiful reply! Thanks for your time and I just want you to know that there are so many people here that care about your work! Will keep listening to your covers until I listen them live one day! have a lovely one
I like it!!!
that wink though
Thom Cam, Jonny Guitar, Ed Guitar, Bass, Drums -- poor the other two :( JK and love your channel man - please keep up the awesomeness!
Ronald van den Berg haha yeah no disrespect to Colin and Phil intended! They’re just usually the only ones on their instrument in a song.... usually 😝
Hey Joe, thanks for your incredible covers and sharing all the process ! The content of your channel is of rare quality, keep up the good work ;). I have a question because I am particularly impressed by your singing : how did you learn to sing ? Did you take lessons or is it practicing and listening a lot ? I am really curious to know more about the process, how long and what it took to get this good. At least in your case. Thanks again for the music !
Thank you! Im glad you enjoy the channel. I don’t have any formal training in singing to speak of... but just out of necessity singing in bands and listening to singers I admire I began to teach myself. Ive definitely come a long way since those earliest attempts 😆 I’ve had a couple friends with more of a singing background give tips along the way but I’m always looking for ways to improve and keep developing! The main thing I’ve learned by singing along to Thom how to use different vowel shapes and “place” the voice in different parts of my head or chest to create different tones. But control and vibrato in both the lowest and highest parts of the register is still something I wrestle with!
Please deconstruct some Radiohead tracks.
Keep up the great work brother.
Thank you for this Joe! Incredibly helpful! Do you use a DI box for your guitar as well?
I have on occasion for the acoustics, this time I actually plugged it (it has an active pickup) into the Hi-Z input of the Universal audio preamp!
This video was really helpful. I do have one question though. Do you typically record audio and video at the same time for most covers (with of course some comping after), or do you record video separate from audio?
Luke Risse glad to hear it! Yes, I’m typically always filming and audio recording at the same time, and I will usually use the final take’s video along with the comped audio from across the takes.
I think is my new favourite video...
Where did you learn to play, mix and edit that good?
Thank you 😊 I’m still learning, but basically just by doing these and other songs to practice the skills, and using web resources and other UA-cam videos generously!
love your videos man, genuine question, how do you have all that gear? And when did you learn everything? You seem pretty young to have this much experience so i was genuinely just wondering.
I guess I’m (slightly) older than I look! 😝 I’ve been playing music for about 20 years and doing my own recording for just under 10 of them. I’ve accumulated the gear I use gradually over that time, with the cheddar I’ve earned working as a data analyst and as a gigging musician. And I’ve learned what I know about recording and mixing through some friends/peers, the internet and books! It’s been a long and ongoing journey, but a very, very fun one.
Joe Edelmann well I’m glad I’ve found your channel and I def look forward to seeing where your journey takes you next, you make top tier quality videos and music and i can definitely see you being huge on youtube in the near future.
Personally I use logic, and I would love to see how you make use of the stock plugins, such as EQ or Compression of anything from drums to vocals. Your songs also sound very well mixed, so maybe something like that. Quality content so far from every video though.
Thanks for sharing! As a fan of Radiohead and Thom Yorke solo works, you have 'helped' me a lot with this channel. I would say that you also inspired me to do music cover. Please keep doing what you're doing! Cheers. PS: I hope someday you have the time to share your soundtoys trick, especially in vocals :)
really good video! if you are ok, Could you upload how you mix a song ?
rerecorded songs 2019年2月1 The Rapture Heads 音源再録済み。 yeah, maybe I’ll do one in more depth on mixing in the near future!!
this man is jesus
true tho
how long have you been shooting 4k unfortunately i didnt even realize and you tube has the bandwidth save thing going on right now. thanks for the great production value
Angelo Santi pretty much from the get go, I got the camera about 2 years ago! And before that would use the 4k setting on my iPhone too. My hard drives runneth over for your viewing pleasure! 😆
@@JoeEdelmann3 that's why I have an 8tb harddrive not for videos though, like literally 100 films and like 10 TV shows
Angelo Santi haha excellent!
Hi Joe, what would you say is a cheaper alternative to the EV RE20 for Falsetto sing. 😁
I haven’t tried it, but apparently there’s an RE320 which is supposed to be very similar, which I see used prices for about $180... you may be able to find other “broadcast”/podcast type mics in that price range that do the same thing with low end smoothness. Or for a more traditional approach there’s plenty of large diaphragm condenser mics ( I have one by Sterling Audio, I think ST55?) in around that price range, but they’re definitely brighter sounding.
Hey Joe, I've loved your videos for a while and apologies if you've addressed this elsewhere but do you have any headphone recommendations (£200-400 budget) that you specifically enjoy for listening to radiohead? Thank you so much!
Hey there! Interestingly I don’t do a ton of traditional headphone listening, but I’ve always enjoyed my Bose QuietComfort headphones for flights or studying and they have a nice rich sound. That being said, other really popular manufacturers are Sennheiser and AKG which I’m sure both have good entries in that price range I’m unfamiliar with.
@JoeEdelmann3 thanks so much, this is very helpful! Appreciate it and all your excellent covers and how to play like tutorials, despite not really being a musician it's all fascinating to watch.
That's too much stuff for one person. I only can describe it as love.
Getting this out of the way: making music looks so fucking complicated. Goddamn. Still wanna get into it, though.
But: I'm sorry that you lost your grandmother, even if this is two years late. I hope you and your family are doing better.
Thank you 🙏
It can be complicated at times, but it doesn’t have to be! Everything is a learning journey. Some of the best music ever made used far less tech/excuses than I do 😅
Very useful!! thanks! actually you and other channel inspired me to make covers, hope you can go to take a view :)
I love relaxing/sad music, that's why I love Radiohead, Interpol, Mew... I'm so sorry for your grandmother :(
what amp do you use for Interpol covers?
MacPac78 both my Fender 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb and my Vox AC30! The Fender with Reverb is pretty key for Daniels sound!
So you add compressors multiple times, to the single instruments and to the complete track?
Francesco P yes! I will add a compressor on the instrument’s channel, set it to taste, and I will sometimes also use what’s called parallel compression (for example, send the drum tracks all to one stereo bus, compress that heavily, and blend it up underneath). Then there’s that “mastering” style compression that I set more subtle, really just to smooth and liven things up a tiny bit towards the end before raising the gain. Compression is like salt, it can add flavor but you obviously don’t want it to be all you taste haha, so it’s all about striking the right balance and making sure nothing sounds too unnatural in context.
hey Joe . i am reaaly fan of your work, i'd like to do the same with the Arctic monkeys content , is there a way or course you explain how do you go through all the procces of recording and editing? it is so hard.
@@Entmoninv thanks! It’s a good idea! I’ll consider doing something like that
How did you start learning about music in general?
liquid metal well I started with guitar lessons when I was 10, had a couple different teachers over the years across styles (classical, jazz, classic rock) and mostly spent a lot of time listening/obsessing over different artists (Radiohead obviously included), reading as much as I could online about them and how they made their songs and sounds. Played in a bunch of different bands throughout high school and college, studied some basic theory and music history in college too. The quest continues every day!!
Hey, how do you afford all this stuff lol?
Years of working and gigging! ☺️
Джо, откуда у тебя столько денег на весь этот стафф? Банк ограбил?
Gena Ortonesyan haha no, the only bank robbing I’m doing these days is in Red Dead Redemption 2. I’ve been working for several years now as a data analyst and I also perform with a local cover band at bars. And it’s definitely been a slow accumulation of gear over the many years I’ve been playing and experimenting!
Joe Edelmann Data analyst. So music is the math for you finally?))
When are you going to grow your hair out so you can look like Jonny Greenwood?
David McKelvey “grow my hair I am jim Morrison”
Are you some kind of millionaire? This is a crap shit ton of high quality gear!
Not a millionaire. Not yet (rubs hands together) 😝
