I think its because it was so good and so clean and the cards really do have to go somewhere, but it still is one of my favorite slight of hand performances.
He used the whiplash card principle and angles and stashed cards in the black seam in the table

Jeki, I loved it! I've seen you do this before on YT, but I don't think it's ever looked better. And here's the thing... I know it's nice to fool Penn & Teller, but I think it's more important to impress them. And you definitely did that!
You may think the code word was “angle”, but it was really “lizard brain.” He simply has a trained lizard in his shorts that spits out a card into his hand. Rudimentary really.

This is probably the best non-fooler act I've seen. It genuinely looks like pure teleportation magic. Amazing sleight of hand, so good that Teller looks genuinely amazed even though he knows how it's being done.

That delighted look on Teller's face would be as good as the trophy to me. Well except that you can't take it home. That would be creepy.
it's not sleight of hand, the glass table wasn't really there, we just thought there was one, and he was just dropping the cards into his hand, and the vanishing cards help too...so easy to figure out, anyone can solve this
Like their clear cups, sure, they're showing you exactly how its done, but it still seems like the balls are coming out of thin air.
I love how Teller is not shy to express his awe. Even if he knows how it's done, you can tell he loves watching great magic the same way a musician loves listening to great music, even if they themselves can play it
Yeah, Teller is amazing in that. Respecting the craft even if he knows how its done most of the time.

@@ricky5369 He can actually talk. He chooses not to on stage, because he believes magic should speak for itself and that every magician is just lying to you anyway. (Paraphrasing).
There are many videos out there of him talking off stage.
I think the first time I found out was when Penn was on celebrity apprentice over a decade ago. He called Teller for something and asked on camera "hey they are recording, is it okay?" And Teller saying "yeah I don't care." Then went on to converse with Penn about the task on hand. (because he's not on stage preforming as Teller, he at that moment is just Raymond).
@@esilva8349 I heard his voice for the first time on a documentary called MMT (Penn & Teller’s Magic and Mystery Tour), the episode on Egypt where he’s watching a fellow Egyptian magician performing the cups & balls.
The best magic is that which you can enjoy even when you know the trick.
The look on Tellers face when he’s impressed by a trick is just as good an award in my mind.
Actually impressing Penn and Teller with the perfect execution of a trick is a much bigger price than the actual trophy. When I started watching Fool Us I thought the winning magicians were better but after some time I realized that the trophy is actually not an indication of skill but simply a measure of how good/knowledgeable Penn and Teller really are. It has nothing to do with the performance itself.
It's the reason P+T made this show - they wanted to see some magic themselves!
if you watch this at 0,25 speed and watch at the reflection at the table you get fooled 4x slower, and now i still dont know how he did it

He may not have fooled them but this is the type of magic I pay to go see. This trick was done flawlessly. The kids loved it.
I loved it too and i'm no kid. i even rewatched it in slow motion quite a few times and it still looks flawless. And even if you know how its done, it would be like saying "i know how to jugle 8 balls" but being able to do it would take years of practice, so its still very enjoyable.
The show is funny in that the magicians with the best skill often don't fool P&T. Someone mentioned this in another comment section, and I agree: they need to have a separate award for showmanship/expertise. Jeki would win that award for sure.
Just watch Americas Got Talent or a similar talent contest if that's what you want
Some even don't try fooling them with routines already known by every magician and some laymen as well. I personally just focus on enjoying these performances.
The goal behind Fool Us is to encourage new types of magic. Sure, there are folks that come on for the publicity, but for the people who really want the trophy, they are incentivised to use stuff P&T likely haven't seen before.

I love how Penn is so kind toward the magicians and so skilled at communicating the unique angles of the trick in a way most won't get/notice so that the mystery is maintained for the audience.
The entire show is respecting magicians. I love this.
Well, you don't need to be very smart to understand that the only way to hide cards and "make them pass thru glass" is using a sleight of hand and angles. People don't know how he does the stuff because it is done very fast and requires training... like one year of training. Magic is not real, but looks real. Even if you know the trick it still looks great.
Only losers claim that the audience knowing how the trick is done puts them out of work, because if a magician is good will always find news ways to make old tricks work.
@@mikatu the secret impresses no one. The trick you use it for is everything. I would wager you have no clue how it's done and you didn't know anything about angles until Penn said something. I was very pleased with the performance because I don't know how it's done and if I knew how it was done it would be much less to me overall. Most people are happy being fooled, which explains a lot...
I remember one where the magician tried a shtick similar to Penn and teller, making big point to the audience about how it's just tricks, and when pen explained how they weren't fooled, you could absolutely tell that he wasn't amused, either by him infringing on their overall vibe, or on his quality of execution, he wasn't overtly mean, but comparatively, you could tell that penn really didn't like the guy. Can't remember who it was though.
Kinda part of the unspoken code of magicians: never reveal the method of a trick unless the magician has already revealed it themselves. Wouldn't be a very good gameshow for magicians if every time someone failed to fool them P&T were like "Well you've got the mirror over there pointing at the curtain which has a special coating on it to do...." etc etc. That would straight-up ruin an aspiring magician's act.
No matter what anybody says an FU trophy is classier than a Oscar and cooler than a Grammy. That trick was awesome my dude. Not just anyone can get an FU trophy from Penn & Teller. 🤯🥂

I thought the trick was fantastic also, but I would not go as far as the other commenter saying he deserved the trophy. If he deserved the trophy P&T would have given it. You are a spectacular artist, Penn and Teller know this, but they don't give these awards out for fooling us, it's for fooling them. You have it in you, you are sharp, you know the right angles to fool P&T, you've done it before, you can do it again. Your trying to fool P&T is awesome for us, the more you try, the better the rest of us are amazed! Great job!
Performing an amazing trick doesn't make you deserve the trophy. You also need to use a technique and trick that nobody else knows.

As someone who has studied magic for years (too scared to perform) I think that if there was no camera tricks, and I dont think there were, that was the most beautiful card routine I have ever seen. I've never thought anything looked so much like real magic before. It was perfect.
It wasn't a camera trick so much as a camera "angle"
If you want to understand this better, you have to understand that from P&T perspective, he used force for this trick.
That said, the actual execution was flawless.

This strikes me as one of those situations where P&T didn't see the trick being done, but knew how it was done anyway.
Penn often brings up the idea of a trick that is so perfect that there is only a single possible explanation.

Well yes they don't know exactly how to do it cuz they can't do it but the premise is he sliding it very quickly between his fingers and keeps his hand down to you you can't see that small little space with a card in it managed to shuffle it back and show you the other side of his hand I can't remember what they call that but and it takes a lot of practice as in thousands of hours and you'll also notice that the camera angle was only at one angle not from straight above cuz then you would have seen the card trickery

Very clever edge design on the glass table. The fact he makes a big thing about removing all the black yet the edge of the table is black. His low arm angle and sliding hand is doing all the 'magic'

This was the highest form of magic. It looks truly impossible, the methods involved are pure mechanical skill. I'm in awe of the effect, and even more in awe of the technical execution.
I think the most important thing is that you fooled me, and probably fooled almost every one watching this video, and you found the way to improve your magic tricks despite what people say.👌🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🔥🔥 you have all my support!!
The level of perfection in this execution is even more impressive than magic. The skill is out of this world.
I'll never know how he did this trick and never want to know. When he removed the black tablecloth that was the moment of truth and did the trick again, I was blown away!

This is, I think, the most simple sequence I've seen on P&T, even more simple than some of the variations of cups-and-balls. That is why it is the most beautiful, because, as Penn says, it really does make you go "Wow... that was magic".

@@le3b Just amazing slight of hand. Keeping your attention on the table is the distraction while he just quickly and cleanly cups the cards in his hands. He's just so quick and clean with his execution you don't even notice it unless you know what to look for.

I loved watching this because, as Penn said, it really felt completely magical. I was in absolute awe.
I remember watching you craft this act during the pandemic and I'm glad you were able to showcase it on Penn and Teller! Love your stuff man, love how simplistic the setups appear to be for how much is going on under the table...so to speak.

You're my Korean hero, Jeki. I really need Korean heroes because I sometimes struggle in relating with my Korean heritage. I don't really feel Korean. But when I watch your magic, it makes me feel proud to be Korean like you.
I think he falls into the class of magicians whose tricks are well known in the trade, but whose performance is of such a high level that their fellow professionals marvel at it. Anyone can throw a punch. This guy is the Muhammad Ali of magicians. Even better, it is impossible for him to hide what a wonderful human being he is.
I absolutely love this. Doesn't matter if you fooled them or not. That was class.

Amazing routine. Jeki for me is the best close-up magician in the world right now. And he's so likeable!
I think there are three of equal talent. Jeki is very entertaining in a fun, upbeat, happy way; Shin Lim in a polished, Hollywood, almost over-dramatic way; and Eric Chien seems just as confused as his audience in a "wait, how did THAT happen??" kind of way. All three are just wonderful to watch.
I really like that the people work behind the scenes help to setup the act. They're magicians themselves and I'm sure it's a comfort for appearing magicians to know they're getting that help. It's not as hostile an environment as it seems.
This is the kind of act that makes me still believe in magic. Really beautiful.

When watching it again with the explanation for Penn, I thought it's the black frame that e shoves card through, but wehen you slow down around 3:25 it's not used. That was masterful. I was paying close attention, and never saw how he made the cards disappear, nor how he made them move through glass. Absolutely amazing performance.

That is a hell of an effect! I did catch one move though when you pulled back the table cloth. The second card disappearing. But the rest of it? I couldn’t catch you on any other moves.

I saw small slight of hands went through a bent of glass. An angle of a glass that can hide hidden pouches through the panel.
Okay, first impressive thing is that you totally got me. I was thinking about that black tablecloth, and then the black pants...
I think the trick is phenomenal and looks so clean. I might have an inkling based on their comments, but the skill involved in making it look so good is astounding. I think the trick is better than 95% of the tricks that fool P&T. Well done.

"that angle on that trick" has to be significant. I mean, I have no idea how he does it and I love his tricks, but P&T must have spotted something familiar to them. I almost don't want to know how it's done, I like being taken in my magicians like this.

Wow! That was amazing. Even looking at it frame by frame (for example at 2:18) one can see the card vanishing, but it still appears to be disappearing into thin air. Amazing trick and a great performance! Thank you for sharing it with us.

A year ago I never heard of Jeki Yoo. But now I can't stop talking about him! His magic is very entertaining and always looks effortless. Can't wait to see more of him in the future.
One of my favorite things about this is he's doing that "oh my!" thing WAY less or at least downplaying it.
Everything else is perfect.
I've been a fan of magic since I saw Paul Daniels on TV as a kid. That was the best close up I have seen.

There is a seam or crack between the glass top and metal table edge. Clever.

@@muchkneaded Could be using double decker cards. The are half as thick as rehular cards, did some slight off hand palming etc...

A great trick, when Penn is talking about a great angle he's hinting that Jeki is placing his cards on the edge of the table at a downward angle that can't be seen from the front or top. (It's why there's a black border on the glass table..) 🙂
This part isn’t magic-related, but I love how genuine you were about your wife, just smiled and said she always gives you solid feedback and that you two make a great team. It’s nice to see other guys do that, idk why I found it so wholesome lol. It’s just a tiny detail but a respectable one. I hope to remember to do the same about my fiancée if I’m lucky enough to get on stage someday. (For stand-up. I don’t even know magic basics yet.)
Anyway, your sleight of hand is ridiculously impressive. Truly god-level stuff. Huge congrats, whether they got fooled or not. Makes me wanna get better so I’m off to practice shuffling cards… seriously. Just shuffling. That’s the current goal lmfao

Brilliantly performed illusion. I could work out how it was done, and could just barely see the slight of hand. I like the subtle comment Penn said which showed that they knew how it was done, and I like how Alyson says you fooled her, even though standing right next to the table she could clearly see how it works. Camera operator near the end needed to be a bit more careful, as he almost gave it away by getting the camera too high. Nice touch with the light coloured shorts, as it was wonderful misdirection, even though it was a risk at showing the card hide. Brilliant performance, and entertaining.

lots of acts on this show are amazing. but you always know theres a trick somewhere even when you dont know what it id. im not sure if ive ever legit thought that something was actual magic, until this act. this was beautiful. best pure magic act on the show i think, even if it didnt fool them.

I sometimes wonder if Penn and Teller ever get envious ... see other magicians that are just soooo good and question how they, themselves, didn't come up with that. It's not really a competition and, for the audience, is always so amazing. All magicians ... please keep, for us who've grown old and jaded, that spark of disbelief, that wonder, that awe. You have no idea how important what you do really is.
As a P&T youtube binge watcher, your trick is in my top 20 most enjoyable. Keep perfecting and inventing good sir!

In recent decades magic has moved onto a different level. This trick may look simple but it's only thanks to Penn's key words we get a hint of how it's done.
This is a great illusion taken to the highest level.
So magical and fooling. Loved every moment of that!
It's obvious from the finger movements that he is grabbing the cards with his lower fingers when he disappears them.... but where they go after that is a mystery. He doesn't drop them - you can see that because of the clear table. He has no sleeves, so he isn't hiding them there. He shows his hands front and back with fingers open, so he's not gripping the cards in any way. The only possibility I can see is that the thin edge of the table is hiding something at an angle the camera can't detect - which would match Penn's clue, but if it is, it was done so well and so skillfully that it is completely undetectable and can only be deduced by the fact that he has eliminated every other possible way. Amazingly well done.
Also it was extremely sus that he had the camera in one spot overhead and P&T as well as Allison being WAY the hell back.
Whenever they want to show P&T's reaction, they really should do a split screen showing both the magician and P&T, instead of cutting away from the magician and go back and forth between them.

I think the edit the video on purpose like that! Sometimes with really bad tricks that have obvious shows they will cut away from the trick at that time. Probably not this trick but in general I think it’s their…trick!
This is the greatest and most beautiful card trick I've seen so far it gave me back the Leonard Green effect
I hope you never get rid of this in your routine. One of the most simple tricks that truly are mind blowing and as Penn said, feels like magic
If they would say 'you fooled us' i would be, oke, i dont know how. But the fact they said 'really good angle' makes me: Really ?? Holy sh** i camt belive its really about that.. its mind bending.
