- Sorry its been a while but the house move went pear shaped big time. Who in their right mind would sell a house these days, but there may be light at the end of the tunnel, hopefully!
So this build has been plodding along for many weeks and it may show. I'm not one for spending months on a build because I loose interest so easily.
Thanks to the people who have stuck and believed in the channel I thank you all 👍😎
The 1/76 scale cars come from the Oxford Automobile Company.
Take a bow, brilliant 👏 🙌 👌
You "turned a sow's ear into a silk purse" as we say in Ireland! What a great job! Bravo!
Thank you! Cheers!
Most people would have given up and chucked it in the bin, but what a amazing recovery of a this late 60's Arfix classic kit. I remember building it with the old school thick Airfix glue, in the little tube that you had to cut the tip off to use and that had no lid , so you stuck a match in it after you finished . As a little kid I was amazed and loved the opening cargo doors !
I think this was the one Morecambe and Wise drove out of at the beginning of That Riviera Touch.
I did two trips (1968) in the Bristol Type 170 Freighter Mk.31, of SAFE, New Zealand.
Used to watch these fly over our home in Southend on Sea
Amazing work my friend.
I built this for a good friend a few years ago. A river nightmare but sanded and smoothed it out. Used aftermarket decals which went down well. I kept photos of the model, since it turned out very nice. Good to see this video. Brings back good memories
You really do take kit building to another level and you're entertaining to listen to while you're at it. Brilliant.
I truly love how you bring up ancient Airfix kits to display standards using scratch building techniques.
a proper job!
Glorious build, and my big sister remembers flying from Lyde in 1955 with mum and dad and a motorbike and sidecar on a freightliner, and having to have a medical before being allowed to fly!
The patience of a saint, the skills of a brain surgeon ! BRAVO sir, BRAVO !
This is advanced level plastic kit building. Looks great: the Bristol Frightener. They flew from the old Portsmouth airfield, I remember them.
Your patience, attention to detail and pursuit of accuracy never cease to amaze me. For us viewers it makes for a fascinating watch and I hope you're pleased with the superb end result in spite of the many frustrations encountered in getting there!
In a corny B&W British film "A Weekend With Lulu" (it's on UA-cam) a Silver City Superfreighter features in the last few minutes.
Will check it out👍
I remember watching these as they flew low over my Uncle's house in Southend, taking off for Europe. Also used to see the later four engined Carvairs rumble over too.
@@GilbertdeClare0704 I saw them too, from the other side of the estuary😀.
@@Robutube1 They were impressive, weren't they ? As a kid they always seemed to me to lumber along, yet they were quite awesome as they flew right over the rooftops as we all had evening tea😂😂
@@GregsModelsamazing result ...im not going to lie...i wouldnt have the paitence (or skill level) for it.
Excellent. I made one as boy. Got an unmade one (boxed) in my spare room. Brought back happy memories. I remember playing in G-ANVR in 1965 when it went to the dump at Southend airport awaiting scrapping. Me and my mates climbed out of the escape hatch on the roof and we used to sit on the wing watching the take offs and landings of the Carvairs and Viscounts. G-ANWK and others were lined up. Needless to say we helped ourselves to many of the old dials etc for souvenirs. "DO NOT JAR - HANDLE LIKE EGGS". Still got a few bits. Thanks, cheered me up.😊
That must have been a great visit. The aircraft was leased by Air Charter in Mar 1955 for operations on the airline’s new cross-Channel Southend-Calais car ferry service - ground-breaking at the time!
Its nice to see a modeller tackles a rough subject , well done Sir
Your abilities are fantastic. You are a true modeler and not just an assembler. Love your videos and narration. please keep them coming.
I watched this build again, when I was a kid, I was devastated that this kit was so bad, that, back then it defeated me. If I weren't a railway and boat modeller, Id have another go. Superb build on your part👍👍😊😊
I think you did a great job of building and updating the original kit, despite all life's interruptions.
It’s a really amazing aeroplane and that last scene with ramp cars and people is museum quality. Loved every second of this build especially the moulding and rebuilding to allow the doors to be opened, brilliant job.
For that amount of effort. You could of scratch built it. But fantastic results as always mate. Always a privilege to watch you work :)
An incredible amount of work done to get the kit looking right. Your patience is rewarded with an amazing end result.
Você sabe como transformar um kit com aparência grosseira em um resultado profissional, parabéns pelos seus belos trabalhos.
Excellent build ,remember this being one of my favourite kits but can’t remember it being so rough, love the build 👌
Your presentation is just right. And in this case only, the old yokes are not the best ones!
You have turned a nation once proud of their boyhood modelling skills into one which now realise we were a nation of bodgers!
Really impressive 👍. Truly.
Some 63 years ago (aged 10) I took my 2nd and 3rd air experience flights in the Bristol freighter, flying from Southend (Rochford) to Oostend on day trip to Belgium with my parents. The outward flight was in, I believe, a British Air Ferries craft and was noisy, smelly and uncomfortable. The return journey was in a Sabena Airlines version which was not quite as noisy or smelly but was made extremely uncomfortable when we encountered a thunderstorm on the way back! In the dark!
My mum vowed never to fly again but in later life relented for a family holiday to Croatia.
I, naturally being an adventurous lad, loved every second of it, including the storm!
Proper job! That was a joy to see it finished. 👏
Great build and superb video, thanks for showing.
What a great job. I remember these freighters flying in and out of Cambridge in the very early 70's when I was the size of a maggot.
Quite remarkable…there’s modelling and then there’s Greg’s modelling!
Excellent build. When pouring rubber just pour it in one continuous flow into one corner and allow it to find its way around the pattern. Continue all the way to the top. That way no bubbles will attach to the pattern.
A beautiful build of a kit I'm sure any of us attempted in our youth but I'm equally sure none of us managed to build anything as impressive as your build - Brilliant
You got a jewel from a crude stone. I am trying to do so with an Airfix Catalina issued in 1964,so your tips are very useful, thanks for sharing
I have one of these, and I thought it would be a quick build.!! What an amazing job, beautiful. An old story ,one of these beauties was on fina😂l approach into a North American airport. The tower controller asked, "Say what kind of plane is that?" The pilot, a Brit said proudly, "This is a Bristol Freighter." After a short pause, the controller responded, "Did you build it yourself? "😂
😂😂👍
Cant even begin to tell you how impressive your skills and patience are to a novice like me. Thanks so much for sharing.
I remember building one of these way back in early 60s. I was only 10 or 11! Those clam shell doors never worked! And I have a memory the decals we Silver City.
An amazing job. Superb result and some good tips too like copying the decals to make masks. Well worth all the effort.
You turned a wobbly kit into a master piece. EXCELLENT WORK !!! a show winner for sure.
One took me to France; with my car of course.
A treat my kids will never know!
The fare for me was more than for the car!
No Q's,. No baggage search.
Just a salute from the gendarme and I headed South.
I took the wrong road and and instead of due south, slept on the beach near where the nuke stations are now! St. Vaaste-
Best holiday I ever had!
Hurn/Maupertus.
Airfix folks wouldn't believe their eyes!
Awesome! your work on this model is just amazing. Beyond museum quality model. Sincere congratulations and thanks for sharing your techniques and tips.
Incredible work, you sir are truly a MASTER BUILDER and an artist also! Wouldn’t it be fun to have old Goldfinger’s car going into the plane like in the movie! Great build sir!
You must have the patience of several saints to see that through to the end, but what a lovely result. Bravo!
There is a Bristol freighter in Omaka (Sth Island) in New Zealand. Videos on You Tube, very nice sir, great that you didn't park it up forever!
I was the kid who built one of these back in the day - it didn't look anything like as good as your one. Love the markings aswell - just before BUA became part of British Caledonian.
I have built this model when they could be purchased from Woolworths. I have a memory of it being pretty terrible. So well done for producing such a fantastic result.
By the power of Greyskull! That was a project! I commend both your skills and your patience.
😂😂
I had this kit three times in my life (I'm 59), in the 1970s and 1980s. The plastic was nice and thick on this kit, when it was made at this time. Another nice thick plastic kit, made at the same time, was the Short Sunderland lll. I haven't bought Airfix kits for over thirty years, the plastic is too thin, almost translucent.
Fearless. You continue to prove there is no such thing as a bad kit. Awesome work.
Fantastic result! Just goes to show it's the modeller not the model. These videos that show the older Airfix kits built to their true potential are wonderful.
So true👍
some fantastic modelling Greg, just to show what can be done with these ancient kits 😄😄👍
Not for you yet another Tamiya P-47! Your projects are getting more extensive with even better results! A wonderful model. May I also compliment you on your editing, commentary and production in general. Everything explained, no time wasted.
Must appreciated 😎
My dad has a neat pick of one of these landing in Canada's far north. Thanks for the reminder.
Thats the 3rd time I've watched this one mate ,its so well done infact the best example lve seen 😊
Thank Mark👍
I think that's amazing Great build. These odd British prop cargo planes are fun.
Watching this build took me straight back to around 1959-1960 when I was a young teenage Airfix fan. Back then their kits ranged from two shillings (10p in new money) to 17 shillings and six pence (87.5p in new money). I think the Bristol Freighter was around 15 shillings (75p in new money). Yes they were a bit on the crude side but in the range of most schoolboys pocket money. Over the years they have come a long way and I'm astounded at the detail in todays kits. Of course the current prices reflect this. As a final note I loved watching your build of what wasn't considered a popular model.
Yes. I paid two shillings for HMS Cossack in one of those clear plastic bags. Tattersalls in Clitheroe.
I had this kit back in the 60's, love seeing what you could really do with it.
Great build! I don't ever remember seeing this in the model shop in Yeovil in the late 60's or early 70's... perhaps it was alway sold out 😄
Sterling work , I remember building this when I was about nine and playing with jeep and Land Rover for cars to be loaded, really enjoyed this build and your skills 👌
Absolutely brilliant Mate. Takes me back to being a kid all over again seeing these old Airfix kits. Good on ya👍.
at least they were cheap in those days ............!
Excellent job on the Super Freighter. Displaying it off loading some cars makes for a intriguing scene. Great eye for adding needed details. Keep up the super work.
Bill
Another superb build, Greg. I built this kit back in the 1970s. I really like your solution for the poor glazing in the main cabin area. Replacing the entire flight deck area was a masterwork - very impressive. Keep the builds coming.
Ahhh, the oldschool sculpting... great work :-)
Great stuff, Jeff; I am envious!
It's great to see you back and I look forward to chatting with you on Jason 's 'Anything that floats' group build.
Cheers
Phil
Literally made a silk purse from a sows ear. I'm not surprised you had to take a few days off! Fantastic build Greg 👍
Now go buy a Tamiya tank and take it easy on yourself 😀.
😂😂
Awesome! I used to see one in Terrace, British Columbia, Canada for many years. There is one in the aviation museum in Winnipeg, Manitoba as well.
My current project is in full swing as a result of the inspriation I receive from your builds and videos. Thank you Greg! Truly amazing! Be well.
Anytime👍
Another masterbuilt. Airfix should hire you when they get around upgrading this kit to 21st century standards
I seem to remember back in the day as well as the loading ramp it came with a couple of little cars. 🚗 🚙
Excellent idea to make such foam-boxes! Many, many thanks for showing this !!! 👍👍👍
Breathtaking. From a lame duck kit to a brilliantly detailed and painted one. Well done.
Outstanding work, she looks fantastic! 😳😲👍🏻👌🏻👏🏻🥰😍😎
Sunday morning does'nt get better than watching you build what always was a questionable kit...all that work is so worthwhile ...real modelling. Brilliant vid..👍
Thank you
Gregg "THE MIRACLE MODELLER", ¡did it again! Like my friend Miguel Enríquez and I we usually say: "NO SOMOS NADA" ("WE ARE NOTHING") when we see your extraordinary videos. ¡Thank you Gregg for all those useful modelling tips! God bless you!
Thank you👍😎
Nice one mate... I went for a ride in a Bristol Freighter ages ago with SAFE Air.. cheers from NZ👍🇳🇿✈️
A marvelous job. This kit brought back many memories. One of the first kits I made as a boy. I loved the fact that the nose was openable. I didn't even paint the model.
A Superb build. Fantastic attention to detail. I am sure their would be a market for the Vac form replacement roof and windscreen section.
Wow, you really went the extra mile with this build. Very enjoyable to watch. Thanks for sharing
Fantastic build Greg! Show's in no uncertain terms what can be done with these old classics. This is my kind of modelling too. I love nothing more than taking old kits, often subjects that are not available elsewhere, and correcting and adding all the missing details. I could build more state of the art models, but stuff like this is what I enjoy the most. Makes me wish Airfix had released a Carvair to go along with the Superfreighter.
Yes that would have been a big kit👍
Wow, Greg.
What a beautiful model you made of it.
The man with the golden hands...!!
😂😂
Just ordered one ! OOOOPs . Should I have hung back ? We shall see .Thanks for a most informative video.
So happy to see another video from you Greg. It will be a very pleasant afternoon :) Another beautifully made model.
Patience, hard work and talent combined to make a brilliant build.👌
I’m one of the exceptions mate. Built this as a lad and I remember it being an impressive size…..a bit like Mars Bars.
Hand painted it with original Airfix enamels from bottles.
Halcyon days!!
Great job on this one Greg!
Sorry - great doesn’t do it justice!!
I hope Airfix can see what can be done with this kit. It’s a remarkable transformation!
I'm keen to do a video on painting a model by brush using Humbrol enamel paints. Just to show the technique used before my airbrush came on the scene.
Cor, Greg, that was some build! I'm very impressed!
Thanks👍😎
Excellent Build, excellent improvisation.
I am really looking forward to seeing this build. Greg, you are correct. Much as I wanted this kit when I was 10 years old, I could not find it anywhere. I do not doubt that you will turn an old moulding into a beautiful piece of work.
Great to see you back, Greg. Been a funny old summer. Loved this one
Interesting, I have an unopened one of these. Bought years ago.
I'm guessing it will remain unopened 😅
@@ricardoroberto7054 I think you may be right 😝
Great job Greg, I think I'll put my kit back in the stash as it looks like a lot of work is needed. Oh well 🤔 Thanks for sharing. Cheers Bob👍
That's a shame Bob these kits need building👍
@@GregsModels true mate but I don’t think I have the skill to do it as good as you have mate 😳👍
Superb build and wonderful attention to detail.
Brilliant build, I love how you are able to take obscure subjects and make them into fantastic show pieces. Keep up the great videos, they’re all very interesting and instructive.
You've just described what makes Greg stand out among others. He is so underrated Imo.
Remember seeing these fly out of Lydd Airport many moons ago :)
A masterclass Greg, far better than my effort way back in 1960!
I lived inside the wreck of an old Superfreighter for two years during my youth. Consequently I knew every inch of the fuselage very well. What you have done here is commendable! Though I wonder at your infinite powers of patience! Well done and good luck.
What? Literally? Or you just played in one?
I lived inside it.@@chrismartin3197
Just staggering what you are prepared to work on. Thanks for the videos. I imagine you must have a huge level of nostalgia to even contemplate these builds. Amazing.
You bet!
I'm always amazed with how much details and techniques you use. 👍👏👏
I just found this kit at my hobbyshop. Looks like I'm bringing it back.....not likely , mate. Got ya subbed.
Thanks for the sub!
Great build. I made one in the mid sixties. Then I built another about 1995 or 1996 when it was re-released. I painted it mainly using Halfords spray cans. I did the white cockpit framing using thin strips of white electrical insulating tape . The whole model including the canopy was then brushed with Johnson's Kleer. I still have the model in mint condition.
Wow! What a tremendous build! ( as always). Your work is really inspirational to me and you make me aspire to be as good as you one day. Thankyou for making the effort to share the video. Take care and be well.
Thank you😎
Cracking job mate 👍👍👍👍👍
