what's a microdynamic driver? gotten really into researching IEMs but I've never heard of it, love to learn about this stuff

@@mkevz I think it's a dynamic driver, but just smaller. It's used in some bullet style earphones, the ones that go wires down from the ear.

It's just a small dynamic driver you can shove right up into your ear canal.
The EPH wasn't bad for it's time, definitely proves you don't need large drivers for lots of bass.

But, BA speaker drivers don't have the bass of a dynamic speaker driver.

That's why they're often paired with a dynamic driver as well. They mentioned this in the video.

@@keptkozy can ones designed specifically for bass be better than dynamic drivers? I'm curious what it's like without air pressure or a dynamic driver at all

@@mkevz good question, honestly never tried a pure BA set, but looking up reviews for Fiio's FA series of IEM would get you a straight answer. If you buy in, report back. I'm curious to hear what you think

Not a big fan of the BA sound, it has that metallic clinical souless tone and timbre that doesnt sound that natural. Light bass with No feel and a thin midrange with a brittle treble.

Timbre was the biggest drawback, although multiple drivers tend to improve it, or so it seems from my personal experience.

@@wwbdwwbd Even the 14BA empire ear Zeus has that artificial BA timbre so I wouldnt say driver count fixes it.

@@dante19890 To my ears it does. As I said in my previous post, it's subjective. My experience is also based the type of music I enjoy. I listen to classical music almost exclusively, and multiple BA drivers does seem to help with timbre, more so with orchestral or chamber pieces than with solo strings. Anyway, I get more enjoyment out of my $50 Tin T2s, which has two dynamic drivers per side, than I do out of multiple-BA IEMs that cost more than six times as much. Go figure. Chi-fi is really upending the entire market, but that's another topic.

Hybrids tend to be the best solution, a Dynamic subwoofer for that thickness and warm feel combined with multiple BAs for precision in treble and clean mids.
