Lofty was the guy that first sparked my interest in survivalism (now bushcraft) back in the 1980s and I give my deepest thanks and respect to this true legend of the outdoors.
Well said. I've learnt a lot from him. He explains stuff that is easily taken on board. I guess he's one of those people in life that are friendly and look harmless? Never judge a book by its cover.....eh?? 🙌 Lofty.....👊✌
The Legend, Respect from another British Army Veteran. Remember doing Survival Training in the Army still stays in my memory to this day & I’m nearly 50. Taught my kids when they where younger all that was taught me.
A true legend, had the pleasure of meeting John in the late 90’s and he has always had that same passion for bushcraft and for all things outdoor, respect.
I meet John in NZ in 1992 wen he was on tour in Christchurch and had a photo with him and he was in the Christchurch press newspaper taking about he life in the SAS
Lofty is a total legend- his knowledge and teachings have helped thousands of people have the confidence to survive in challenging times -these basic bushcraft skills should be part and parcel of everyone’s upbringing. Today’s kids are too cosseted at home with their devices and no idea on how to make a fire, shelters or find food.
They blend in the guys from regiment ,lol great man and friend lucky to not only chat with him and spend time ,really amazing my friend ,rat catcher and guy who talks a lot lol
I do wish that Collins had the gumption to correct all of the silly mistakes which they drew and edited into his book, the SAS Survival Guide. ☆ I annoted these on Google Books Reviews, years ago, but the latest edition still has them. ☆foolish and dangerous!
The trouble the ray mears tribe is that they dont understand black military humour. One day, I was in a pub with lofty having some grub. He said to me, "Go over to a 6ft 3-inch guardsman at the bar and say . What is the difference between an Irish guardsmen and a slice of bread? He drew up to his full height and said, "Don't know. " I removed myself as quickly as possible, saying you can make soldiers out of a slice of bread, but you can't make a soldier out of an Irish Guardsman.😂😂
God bless him, heart of lion, brains of judge, and as humble a man you could not meet
He looks like a happy innocent oldman you definitely wouldn't think he was ex SAS.
This man is a true role model To my way of thinking.
This guys knowledge and patter are beyond belief. He should have had his own tv show years ago.
God I love Lofty.... true gent that will kill and survive when it’s absolutely called for.

What a fantastic bloke; I'd love to go for a pint with Lofty. And, incidentally, has anyone ever noticed that he is a wise man?
