+Daniel Martine I agree wholeheartedly. 1960's "purists" ( if there could be such a thing ) were practically shocked by the slick, late 1970's treatment of the "Hair" musical. To a lot of people it was as if they turned it into a Pepsi commercial. But the choreography just made the material more cinematic and avoided looking too stiff and musically staged. How could the movie even attempt to have the cast dance around the audience. As it was, the movie still has some dated qualities by the dancing, direction and immortal soundtrack make it still worth seeing.
Amen! It's a spirited bassline, isn't it? And with tons of attitude too! Whoever wrote it and then whoever performed it managed to connect the best of psychedelia and the best of funk, yes?
We were only kids when my sister and I knew that movie and made one of our favorites, knowing songs. People were hallucinating. Two young girls knowing Hair songs 😂
Me too; but maybe I lucked out & always got good stuff, or maybe it's just that I love watching this movie so that it always reminds me of my best trips. Anyway, I think the scene is genius for the way it takes all that's happened in the movie & blends it all seamlessly into Claude's continuous trip, yes? The hippies, the horse, the park bench, the chandelier swinging over Burger's head all appear then merge into his next vision. Love the Hare Krishna with the mariachi horn section behind it.
My parents first let me see this when i was 8 years old and I remember when Claude kisses Shelia and you see a bump, because she's pregnant. Before I had sex ed I thought thats what would happen if I kissed a guy. I am now 20 and I know thats not true. :) I agree this is one of the best baselines of all times.
For those of you that chose to take LSD tonight, I provide you this background to trip with. Just keep hitting play. It's gonna be so cool. Or is it...
Depending on the personality and daily state/condition , surroundings, etc. people experience different things. I had psychedelic optical illusions as well as interesting thoughts, but also, like in this scene, saw things with my "inner eye", like memories just more vivid...from cartoons to myself being a wave from a Radiostation looking for an antenna, bouncing around the sky... The feeling I can't describe, I thought it was very easy to breathe like being a bit light headed, I could walk for ages, felt no pain, and everything was interesting and worth thinking and talking about. And we always had lots of giggles. But it's different for everyone.😉🇮🇪👍💖🛸
LSD is very subjective. Depends on your mood when you take it, your circumstances, environment, people around you. My first lsd experience was pretty wild. I was at home when I took it, but got a sense of wanderlust shortly after taking it, and went into a nearby forest. Got properly lost "following forest trails" because I felt like it was a thing to do. Go this path. So now realising I dunno where I am, adrenaline kicks in suppresses the lsd trip, sobers me enough to pull maps on my phone and the 60+meter radius (due to my phone being in the middle of a forest) and proceeded to bruteforce my way through a few bushes in the most straightforward path out. Once out, the adrenaline wore out and lsd kicked back in. The walk home was very tranquil, and noises sounded like music to me. Very rhythmic, very vivid and saturated. It's pretty wild. Also, shrooms work in similar way, but with shrooms i get extremely intense wanderlust
If you have never closed your eyes while tripping and gone into another place with crazy imagery then you're missing out, babes. I've done a lot of acid and I thought this was a great and funny representation of tripping hard.
@@jj18057not really, no. Trips are usually closely tied to the stimuli you receive. This scene is nothing how lsd feels like, but overall it's pretty good scene. My experience was intense wanderlust, extremely vivid sensory stimuli, and probably worst of all, remembering it all the next day. But yeah, this aint it chief. You wont see people flying and you getting married. However you might feel like you can lift an 80kg fridge just because you feel like it.

Hello there "Hair" fans!... Does anyone know where was the church filmed in this famous movie scene? All the set (filming) locations given at various web sites (IMDB etc.) do not mention this (special) place. Quick scenes with the traveling bus in the opening of the movie (while Claude travels from his rural OK home to NYC), resemble the country side of upstate New York (have a Catskills like feel...) or perhaps Long Island..., with small white cottages, green lush farmlands, nice Fall foliage colors, and pumpkins on display on the side of small country roads..., so one has to wonder where was this little church (also typical of small towns./hamlets of upstate NY) actually located?
Thank you for the information and the reply! I hope you would not mind me asking if were you involved with the production of the movie? or how did you find out. This is so hard to track down....! I am still hoping someone will enlighten us to the site of the original church used in the movie. I looked closely and it is clear that the actual movie scenes filmed inside or at the entrance are not filmed at the same church (shown as the exterior building), but perhaps it could have been in a studio. The shape of the doors does not fit, and the church entrance as seen from inside has a large strained-glass window which the exterior of the small white church lacks... I dared to tweet my question to Mr. Treat Williams (..."Bergeeeeer"!...) and I am still hopefully waiting on a response. The location of the church with the lush immaculate green hills behind it seems rare and special, the countryside church itself perhaps was used more only as passing image or postcard-like symbol, and was not the actual movie set...

well, I would stand in front of those candles, wave my hand over them and watch the flames. Or dance around. Or hit on one of the hippies. But a trip where I just stand around and smile like an idiot? thats wasted ^^
