Lovely to see these old girls, good memories of them all whilst working as Driver 72 to 77 at Ribble Aintree Depot, Ormskirk Road, Aintree. Liverpool.
With a smashing bunch of co workers, many long gone to their rest, God Bless Them.

Shame you missed it, it was a very good day. It made up for cancellation of the Lytham hall event. I was looking forward to that

Very nice video once again. Some of those buses have good livery and are kept in good condition.

Just wanted to ask, are there any 502 updates because all I can find is several years old? Also watching a Hunts Cross to Southport cab ride vid (which is excellent BTW) from about 1990 I hear on the commentary they mention I think a red 502 which they saw at Freshfield station and a 503 at Burscough so I imagine the 503 is no more and the red 502 is the one being restored. I am confused because there are photos of the red 503 looking freshly painted number 78690 Mersey Punter. The reason for my confusion is that the 503 must have been restored to have new paint so unless it is stored somewhere why was it scrapped or what happened to it?

Most of our restoration updates are on our Facebook page facebook.com/502group . I don't know what unit was discussed in the cab ride video but it might have been the 502 which ran in preservation until 1989. There was nothing at Burscough until 2012 when we moved the 502 in with the buses of the Merseyside Transport trust & began the restoration. The 503 was repainted into its original livery in 1986 by BR in time to celebrate the Mersey railway centenary. After a couple of seasons running Santa specials it was handed over to Wirral borough council. Not knowing what to do with it they split it & kept one coach to convert to a seating area for a tea room. When that fell through it went to Coventry to rejoin it's other coaches at the electric railway museum. When that was forced to close it was moved to Margate at the old Hornby warehouse where it's currently based, though the owners have been asked to move it due to lack of work on it.

At 41:07 you’ll hear it’s Birkenhead North, not Burscough as I thought. It’s only mentioned for a few seconds but it certainly mentions a 502 and the LMS 503, this vid is from 1990 so it would be just after the specials were ran as per your information. The vid is quite factual and informative and well worth a watch and listen, it’s a cab ride from Hunts Cross there is also a Central to Ormskirk vid with the same participants and a West Kirby to New Brighton abridged short vid with the same people and a narrative overlay which is mentioned in the linked vid as a future vid.

@@eddherring4972 I have this film but on VHS so not been able to view it for ages. At that time the 502 was still owned by the NRM & was housed at the steamport museum in Southport. When that closed & moved to Preston, (Ribble steam railway) the NRM placed it in store at a MOD base in Warwickshire where it deteriorated. After several years they were going to scrap it, but the friends of the 502 group was set up to save it. The NRM agreeing to pass ownership to the group.
