This is crazy, I used to go shooting with friends back in the 1970s when this show aired. We had rifles, shotguns and handguns, we locked them in the truck of our car. I don't know of any California permits needed, or any reason cops would take them from you, of course this guy is a bit crazy.
I recall up to the late 1980s in California it was legal to carry handguns in a vehicle as long as it was in sight and unloaded, I had two on my truck dash for years. They were very dusty at times. I also got pulled over many times and i never once had them taken from me .. These days if i did that we all know id be pushing daisies the next day..

I love how two policemen see a small arsenal in a car and don't immediately draw their guns and slam that guy against the hood of his car while screaming at him "stop resisting, stop resisting". We certainly had a different view of what police stops looked like before the show COPS came along.

Police saw my gun cases asked to look at them all each had a tiny key lock on them which they said I was legal if I hadn't had those tiny locks I be in cuffs that was 1989. Maybe you lived in LA something I donno also go shooting up in Lytle Creek. I moved out of the left wing state for Arizona long ago never looked back glad I did gun laws got lot worse. Here I can keep loaded guns in my car all the times I ever been pulled over here not one officer ever asked me if I had weapons.

Nope, a gun in plain sight is all the probable cause they need to search the entire car, especially since it's loaded and not properly secured. Every gun they saw except the one in the trunk was in plain sight too. And the guy volunteered the information about that one.
these days this guy would be going to jail and shoved down to the ground immediately and frisked, or shot himself. You do not EVER carry a loaded gun in your car unless you have a CCW. Which in CA is very hard to get. You pretty much have to be an LEO to get one in most jurisdictions. This is not funny at all. I know it feels powerful to be driving and have a gun in the center console. Just do not do it. Cops are not playing these days.
