  • The machete is formidable tool used in Jamaica (and many parts of the world). With the skill to use one, access to many things like the nourishing content of the dried coconut becomes more available. Fallen dried coconuts in or around the yard suddenly becomes more than a litter on the lawn.

Thanks, just what I needed here in Panama. Being new to the region has it's challenges, but I'm glad there are people like you to help us along the way.

Thanks man! I moved back to my island after being away for so many years. The coconuts were pretty intimidating. I’ll definitely try your method.

Thanks man. Was about to fight with this coconut but you give me a much better alternative. Worked out pretty much how the video illustrated.

I like the info about the back of the machete to open top. I am going to try to open one today with your method. This will be only my 2nd one in my life. I now have a beautiful coconut giving tree in my yard. I’m so excited! The 1st one was delicious ( I had no idea how to open a coconut, and I used a screwdriver, saw-machete and a hammer. Today I need to buy a regular machete.

Pick it while it is green and soft on top as soon as its got water in it...the coconut would look small...you can cut a hole in the top easily with a small kitchen knife and drink out the water..get some straws with paper on it...or pour it in a bowl first so the water don't get on your clothes( it stains)

What size machete do you use/recommend?

A 24 or 26 inch machette, or a clever is good enough. I personally prefer a clever, it"s easier to maneuver. Thanks for watching.

Not a young lady but I'm gonna try.
    1. Plus at the top
    2. Draw a lining from the end of the plus.
    3. Open along the lining
    4. Wrestle with it to peel nut out.
