    Coconut dehusking Machine
    Very economical to produce, Just need some Iron and Welding Skills
    . by the way this is my First Welding Job..
    After making and doing some Coconut Husk removing/ testing I have Donated this Tool/ Machine to an Industrial coconut peeler in Kandy.
    Hope they find this Useful.
    an Indian farmer first created this item. the concept is the same - We need to promote this eco- friendly , energy saving, zero smoke and no heat machine which requires no electricity to those who are suffering from Coconut Dehusking Job in their entire Life. most of them are suffering from Occupational Dis- orders due to continuing the same routine job in their entire Life (20-35 years). Please spread this..to ease them..

    This husker is good for hundred pcs of matured coconut. Imagine a mountain of 25 thousand, large and matured coconut. In my twenties I can husk 3k pcs from 7 AM to 4 PM just by using traditional husker (plain straight sharp pointed piece of leaf spring fixed on a wooden post)

    Can it be possible to convert the mechanism? Instead of pulling to pushing the lever. So the body weight can be transformed into energy and much easier for weak people too.

  • @HenryVG525

    Great construction video! Is there a reason for attaching the lever so it must be lifted instead of on the other side to use body weight?

    • @randynrx
      @randynrx Рік тому +1

      if you put the lever the other way then when you let go it will open and you won't be able to spike the hush without holding it up with one hand..Maybe a spring mechanism or a counter weight could solve that problem. But its beautifuly simple as it is.

    The person husking the coconut is struggling due to the excessive height of the blades and the hand-lever. This may be ok for a very tall person, but not for a person of height up to 5' 6'' or so. At the present height of the tool, it becomes difficult to (i) impale the coconut, and (ii) pull the lever. The best tool-height for a person of average height is 45-50 cm.

    This is a tool innovated in the Kelappaji College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (KCAET), Tavanur, Malappuram District, Kerala, India. KCAET is a constituent college of the Kerala Agricultural University, Vellanikkara, Thrissur District, Kerala, India. It was innovated and patented in 1995 (Ref.: Indian Patent No. 192670 of 25.8.1995). Some have suggested to make it foot-lever assisted. Overall, it shall be inconvenient in the following ways. (i) An additional spring is needed to make the foot-lever return to its initial position, after depressing it. So, the operator has to work against this spring when depressing the foot-lever. So, more force is to be exerted, though by foot. (ii) The operator's stability is slightly affected, though for a short time, when lifting one leg to have it placed on the foot-lever. The operator comes to a 1-leg posture. (iii) Stability is affected, also when depressing the pedal with one foot; that foot being in a floating state. (iv) The operator has to alternate between 1-leg posture and 2-leg posture. (v) A larger base is required, on the side of the foot-lever, to prevent instability of the tool when idle. (vi) More number of components are required to transmit power to the movable blade from the foot-lever, which increases the complexity and reduces compactness. (vii) The mechanical advantage derived is less unless the foot-lever is extended, which may require making the base still larger. (viii) Extension of the lever would also necessitate a spring of larger tension or spring-constant to make the lever return to its initial position after depressing. It would cause more force to be exerted by the operator when depressing the lever. (ix) Transfer of a part of the bodyweight to the foot-lever through the leg is an inconvenient process in the light of the operator's instability together with the alternate bending and straightening of the leg. (x) A base is also needed at the free-end of the foot-lever for conveniently placing the foot.
    On the other hand, the hand-lever-assisted tool has much better conveniences and advantages when considering almost all of the aforementioned. Even the mechanical advantage derived is higher; about 6 (six) with a 75-mm blade and a 450-mm hand-lever.

      Though many versions of foot-lever-assisted coconut-husking-tools have been developed, none has found wide use or attracted wide popularity. Hand-operated tool is simpler, more compact, less-costly, and easier to use. The operator is always stable and well-balanced due to the 2-leg posture. Has a higher mechanical advantage too.

      I am one of the two inventors of this husking tool. The other is Dr Joby Bastian. Both of us were members of the faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology of the Kerala Agricultural University (KAU). We both and the KAU are its patentees (Indian Patent No. 192670 of 25.8.1995). Details are available online. We had studied and analysed the various foot-lever assisted tools. That caused to post in my 1st post above a detailed analyses.

      Salute your great contribution to the society. Here in Sri Lanka we harvest 2 billion nuts per year but still using the traditional husking method which is very tedious and results in side effects. So we wish to make people aware of your invention which is a safer method….

      @@creantho This tool is bound to become popular in the coconut-growing regions all over the world. Let it become a tool of great benefit to the people in such areas. The traditional method with the iron/wooden stake shall slowly become redundant. You may please take the lead in popularising it in Sri Lanka. Let it become useful to the people.
