    Mind blown. You did an amazing job capturing every memorable and emotional shooting location scene in one of the, if not, the best sports movies of all time.

    One of the most powerful scenes is when Rudy is on the practice field and after a play comes on over to the sideline and says to Mary, “Don’t I know you?” First, that is so incredible that you found that field where they shot this scene and so glad you included it into your video. While this scene plays for humor, it also expresses the main theme and message of the film: never give up on realizing your dreams. In this moment when Rudy says this to Mary, he’s essentially saying, ‘see, I did make it into the University of Notre Dame as I said I would’ or ‘I realized my dream of not only getting into the school but also making it onto the football team.’ The shocking look on Mary’s face and the heartfelt music adds so much emotion to this brief yet powerful scene. It also makes us think about how Mary couldn’t bend the rules about participating in the student activities and wasn’t sympathetic when Rudy revealed at the bar that he wasn’t a student at Notre Dame.

      I’m glad you pointed out this particular scene and you hit the nail right on the head about what you said about it. I feel the same way. That part and the scene when Fortune lectures him in the stadium are two of my favorite parts of the movie for the messages and meanings in those scenes. Thanks for the comment.

    • @iamtheprotagonist
      @iamtheprotagonist Місяць тому +1

      @ Totally agree. Yes, the scene with Fortune and Rudy in the stadium is the other emotionally powerful moment that ties into the themes of the film. So amazing that you found that iconic spot of their exchange.

      @ I just discovered there’s an extended cut of Rudy with multiple scenes featuring Mary with Rudy - not sure if you’ve seen that version. These scenes with Mary add so much more emotion to the story, especially when we glimpse Mary shedding a tear in the press box after seeing Rudy make the tackle at the end of the film. I had always wondered why we never saw a shot of Mary in the stadium at the end. Cannot believe the filmmakers didn’t include all her scenes in the final original cut. (Just found out: there’s a 2023 Director’s Cut of “Rudy” (to celebrate its 30th Anniversary) - which is a 127 minute cut of the film which is 13 min longer than the original. This is the way the Director intended things. You may need to find some additional shooting locations for this cut :). Going to watch it, and hopefully, all the Mary scenes are in this longer cut - she’s a more significant character in this cut I heard - she’s a sportswriter that wants to write about Rudy)

      No, I wasn’t aware of that. I would definitely like to see it. Where did you come across that? I have seen one deleted scene where they are all out to dinner talking about Notre Dame football, but that’s the only one I’ve seen. I would definitely like to see the one you’re talking about.

    My family were extras in some of the stadium shots in the fall of 1992. They asked the crowd to switch clothes and mix it up several times. They super imposed the groups together to look like big crowds depsite some of the shots being from a real game. They didn't pay us but they gave us all raffle tickets for participating as extras. I won 2nd prize which were round trip tickets to LA to watch Notre Dame vs USC. It's probably one of my best memories growing up as my dad and I went on the trip together to LA. They put us up in a hotel downtown facing the Hollywood sign. Side note, 1st prize was a new car (1992 geo metro) and I'm super happy that I won 2nd prize because that memory has outlasted any geo metro today. It's kind of cool to say "I was in the movie Rudy" but in reality were a small dot in the crowd scenes :-) I was there for him being carried out of the stadium on the teams shoulders.

    Wow, I just stumbled across this myself. Needless to say you've definitely done a wonderful job capturing all of this.
    Rudy was and still is one of my favorite movies. I've had a lot of similarities to Rudy. I've been told by many people that I was always going to be a dreamer and that I wasn't gonna go to college. Granted I still dream a lot of times and I can say I went to college. Granted I haven't graduated yet but I'm still chasing my dream to be able to finish going to college.
    Being able to have my life to have identical similarities as Rudy's means a lot to me. I even have a learning disability just like Rudy. I'm determined and proud of being fearless.

    This is probably the best film location video I have ever seen. Just fantastic how you nailed literally ever scene. It must have taken so long to do this. Thanks so much for this. The only addition that would have made it complete would be if you had pointed out the actual seats where Rudy's parents were sitting. Because, directly behind them, the real Rudy was sitting as a cameo in the film. He was wearing a plaid cap and sheepskin trimmed jacket, and sat directly behind Rudy's mom in the stands.

    Nice video, well done. My parents got married in that church where Pete's service was held, of course my parents married there in the early 1950's (St Casimir Church). My aunt at the time lived about 4 houses away from the church and that Joe's Tavern is just a block down the street from the church and her old house. I have been down that street (Dunham) many times as a very young boy...I am now in my mid 60's, so it was many many years ago and long before Rudy was made. I have watched Rudy many times and I never made the connection on where some of the scenes were actually filmed.

    The high school & stadium that was used in the filming of Rudy was formerly known as St. Rita High School.
    I've seen many football games there as a student & alumni in that particular stadium which was called St. Rita Stadium at Pat Cronin Field, home of the Mustangs.
    St. Rita HS sold the property to the Chicago Public Schools in the early 90's and relocated just a few miles away where the high school continues to thrive.

      @@ComeSeeWithMe Serious question; how are you able to gain so much access to these locations? Do you ask permission? Do you just go in? To you say you're filming and they let you in? What's your secret?

    • @ComeSeeWithMe
      @ComeSeeWithMe  Рік тому +2

      Great question. I do a lot of research and planning before I set out and shoot locations. There’s a good amount of time I invest on the front end to come up with an itinerary of which sites I’m going to visit in what order and for how long. Every movie that I do filming locations for varies, but most of the locations I find I’m able to just walk up and see and visit then freely. Sure there are certainly some that I need to arrange for permission or access to see, but I would say in general, most are accessible without any special arrangements (of course, each movie has different circumstances). For Rudy, I was able to see almost everything I shot without any arrangements, I only needed to ask about a few spots. I had to work around a few other locations with timing of the spots, but the rest was pretty much available without any issues. If the locations are for a popular movie that I’m covering, most people understand why I’m filming them. But for lesser known movies or more remote scenes and locations, people are sometimes confused or unsure of what I’m doing or why I want to see and film the locations. In a number of cases, people weren’t even aware of what ties some of the locations were to movies. I’ve informed a number of people that their house, street, building, town, etc, were in a movie - sometimes ones they had even seen - and they had no idea until I told them or showed them how they match up.
