It;s no secret that life is getting VERY expensive? But how are we supposed to resist all this pretty new makeup? I'll share some tips and let me know your thoughts on the topic.

I have always been pretty selective but now if I’m inspired by a new palette or makeup look, I shop my current stuff so I can get the same look. Life is just way too expensive to be wasteful in any way

YES!! Somehow I just found you and it came at the best time!! I have bought every new release featured by my regular UA-camrs for years and use them once or twice before the new comes in, like the next day. I have way too much and have given so much away. I subscribed because I am all for this!! It's become an obsession and I get really sad when I miss something. I'm thinking my passion has become an addiction. Nobody uses this much makeup. I've always lived below my means because when the Stock Market crashed in 1987, I was 18, living on my own, 3000 miles away from family and trying to graduate high school!
When I first got into wearing eyeshadow, 2020, i bought just about every release; fortunately, by 2022, i realized that the influencers i watched would never bring out a palette once they reviewed it, so I stopped buying any old release! I'm definitely shopping my stash, and sometimes buying things that enhance my collection instead of just buying things cuz they look nice.
Girl I need your discipline. I think creators don’t do videos on old releases because they don’t do well on UA-cam, but I’ll find ways to have fun with it.
My least favourite videos are the "monthly favourites" where some influencers list every purchase that month as their favourites then they never talk about them again.
What I have recently started doing with my eye shadow collection is taking them out twice a month making sure I know what's in my collection before buying a new release. For example, with the new release from the Nomad palette in my collection, I have similar shadows so I did a pass with this palette. During the Christmas in July sale, I purchased a lot of their products which I have no regrets so I need to use what I have already. I have to be more disciplined with myself and hold myself accountable to do better.
That’s a great approach!! I normally pull out random. But maybe I’ll dedicate an entire month to a brand and move through my collection like that!

I think we should all just start using the makeup we already have. I would be so happy to see more channels share looks from older makeup to help bring some excitement in using what we alreday own and hopefully get us to save some money at least until something ground breaking comes along LOL. From a viewers point of view it gets exhausting seeing reviews of new makeup and even though we don't have to watch, makeup in general is very addictive. Im so proud of myself to cancel my order for the backordered for ND "I need a nude palette"... I already have the makeup by mario palette so why on earth do I need another similar palette.

I’m definitely not really buying or honestly watching a lot of new 13:04 makeup YT. I still love makeup however if I really want it by Black Friday and it’s worth the sale price then I might grab it. Like you said we have so many beautiful things in our collections that haven’t had much love or any at all I’ve been really loving shopping my stash and 13:04 rediscovering things.
That’s such a great way to think about it!! If you still want it by Black Friday…then find a sale!

This is such a good topic!! I need to scale back!! And i feel guilty if I feel like you were pressured to buy the Adept but i think we bought it at same time 😬😬😬 its gorgeous! Im not gna regret it but I feel that makeup is just getting more and more expensive!! Eyeshadow palettes and now lately blushes have been my weakness, but if you literally saw my collection, you would think I was a you tuber. I fall into the new lauch FOMO so bad, the gorgeous packaging, beautiful colorstories, super shimmery glittery eyeshadows and skin perfecting foundations, concealers ect. Im a sucker and ne to check myself!!! Thanks for this video!! How am i affording it? I cant afford it either but i have a small $500 limit credit card that use specifically for makeup so i dont overspend. I shld pay cash but , honestly i dont.

This was a great topic. I haven’t purchased much makeup at all this year. I definitely won’t be rouge after December and I’m ok with that because I’m not buying things any longer just to get them . I’ve been using what I have and have been enjoying and rediscovering things I forgot about. The ND palette is the 1st palette I bought in a long whole. In fact my favorite videos to watch are the ones where people are shopping their stash.
Yes I definitely think things have shifted in the beauty space. Shop my stash videos didn’t do so well in the past. But I’m excited to start playing with this topic and see how to make it fun!

I would love a series with looks shopping our stash. I have spent alot of money on good makeup, just to move on to the next best thing. I can't do it anymore. My husband recently passed and I have to live on one income. I would love to be inspired by what I own.

The cost of living in California is insane, just rent and food alone are ridiculous 😂it's still important to have things like makeup which help relieve stress,but also cause it because of prices lol

Your video really resignated with me. I am an addict. I knew it but this video is helping me say it out loud!!! I have no business spending as much as I do on makeup right now. Afterpay, sizzle, Karnak, PayPal pay in four, shop pay, you name it, I have multiple bills. I am spending a few hundred dollars each paycheck! I don’t need that much makeup, I will NEVER EVER be able to use even a fraction of it ! I’m taking a vow to stop, like you I need to afford myself a collection here and there but never payments on multiple at a time. Thank you for shedding light to this situation I’m sure a lot of us are falling into
Girl I was right there with you!! And you know what? It’s freeing to stop. I’m enjoying makeup SO much more now that I’m not constantly buying all the new new…. More of something doesn’t make you enjoy it more - it’s what I learned.

I absolutely LOVE makeup….and especially eyeshadow palettes. I used to buy way too much. I still don’t need anything but I try to wait for the indie companies I love to support to release stuff I MAY like….and then I always check my collection for a dupe before I buy.
Same!! I only fell into it about 5 years ago, but I love all the pretty things. But you’re right, at this point it’s better to try and dupe first!
This is a great conversation. I can’t do all new stuff and if it doesn’t work I’m sending it back. I don’t buy whole collection i will do one or two items depending on the price. I don’t mind doing Klarna.

I have really sealed back on buying I don't buy anymore as much and. I just weght to see if I get gift cards then go from there but I'm also just using what makeup I have buy on sale also

Great video. I liked your new releases video you did when you pulled stuff from your collection. I agree with you makeup is expensive. I get my makeup on sale and also I just subscribed to Boxycharm by Ipsy. I have shopped the Ipsy sales and have gotten some really good deals.
I liked those too. I need to get back to them. They were hard to edit since you have to film and edit right away or they weren’t too relevant, but maybe it’s a good one to do live!
I’m being super selective. When I do purchase I use either PayPal in 4, Klarna or Afterpay. I also have a family to think about and my babies diapers are $100 a month so yeah. Gas & Food are expensive. I’m grateful to have a mortgage.

I have cut brands out and try to limit myself as much as possible. I use afterpay/PP in 4. But, for content, you don't have to do all new and shiny. Show your faves, your go-to or things you have not reviewed yet

Great topic! I’ve started just jotting down my makeup purchases and that has helped me be honest with myself and get a sense of what I’m spending! I’m pretty good about cycling through my palettes, also! When I see a new palette, I look through and check whether or not I have the shades or formula already. It’s not foolproof because sometimes I’m just like whatever I’m gonna buy it. But it certainly is eye opening to keep track.
That’s a good idea. I’ve never actually written down every single purchase. I’m going to start doing that!

What a great topic. I can definitely overshop, but after my birthday buys last September 22' I checked myself back to one makeup purchase per month. I think I'm down to almost bimonthly now. I really held strong on Black Friday shopping & bought matte singles & one shifty from Devinah. I also got some Kaleidos eyeliners, lipsticks & mask, and 1 Highlight since I saw Urban Outfitters had them 40 or 50% off. Then I saw Klarity had a scavenger hunt free palette, just had to pay shipping. I bought one but then sent 2 others out to friends. This year was maybe $200. Last year I easily spent well over $500. I would enjoy content on older items.

Maybe every creator has to take their turn to learn. New product reviews are helpful when you're still looking for what works, but once you know & have the viewers that like them also it's nice to see them used more.😊
I have scaled back immensely. I can watch YT and not be moved to buy. I made a decision to stop buying. I have to really sit and think and let the enthusiasm die down. I buy replacements for empties but that is it. I also wait for sales and if I want it I wait. I don’t even where makeup all the time so why am I buying it? If I do buy makeup it is more like 5 min makeup routines. We have to adjust our mindset.

I don't have kids, but in thinking about having them, even w a good job it seems so expensive. I don't even have a house yet. Now I'm saving for different milestones. I had a decent saving system before, but I just started a more efficient savings and investing plan w a financial planner bc milestones can be expensive!
I have a good job now, but being a poor student for so long, I learned how to be on tight budget. I've been pretty good w maintaining my budgets, but there def was lifestyle inflation after I got my current job, so when covid hit, I really got into eyeshadow. It became a type of artistic outlet and therapy. But after 20 palettes, I started to really cut back bc it was wasteful when I could dupe any new palette w what I had, plus I have limited space for things. Then I started going on a low buy and buying only things that would be unique to my collection or be a higher quality replacement of color stories I really, really like. This fall I'm on an almost-no-buy for makeup except for everyday things that get used up easily - bronzer, lip liner.
The fall palettes last yr that I got really completed my collection, so now I am just using new palette vids as inspo.
Right now it's still too hot to wear dark colors in CA, so even tho I want to wear fall eyeshadow, I can't w summer attire, lol. I don't think we'll get cold enough until mid-Oct, so I went looking for summer palette vids from this yr, last yr, and 2020. 😄🌅🏵️🏝️
Good for you!! You caught it right on time before it became an obsession. I think we would all be smarter to think like you and try and dupe new releases with our collections. Once you have a hood base, it’s really not that hard. Eyeshadow colors are not the different. Once you have one indie multichromes, you have them all.

What a great topic, I was actually thinking about this as well. The tail end of this quarter I’m going to allow myself one Holiday release. Then next year I’m going to budget for a collection per quarter. It’s gonna be tough because nothing compares to the feeling of cracking in to new makeup 😂 LOL.

I am getting overwhelmed with all the new releases and I would love to see you use older products. I am not purchasing any more new releases due to the fact that I just purchased the new Adept cosmetic palette which I decided to already purchase prior.
I will be using the old! And the adept release was what I was talking about 😆. But no regrets, just better decisions ahead.

I think ever since the beginning of covid everything changed I think that it made a lot of people think about what's really important
I wish that was me…I was so bored and grieving so Covid sent me into a tailspin. I spent A LOT and got into debt over it. It’s taken me almost 4 years to change my mindset.

My annual beauty budget is $250, if I go over a little bit it's not the end of the world but it will come out of the following year's budget and I keep track of purchases on a spreadsheet. But I deliberately keep it low because it's enough for what I need and I prefer having a smaller collection to begin with. What other people buy is not my business but I don't understand how some can afford to buy so much cosmetics in addition to other expenses these days. I am saving for retirement and a house, and the savings account gets paid first, then bills. That's just the way it is with me. I also really enjoy using what I have so I am lucky that way. But when I make purchases I want to use them, not just play with them once or twice set them aside and then buy something new. I find that extremely wasteful, and a lot of channels that are like that I have simply stopped watching. Apologies for the long comment. 😁
This is such a great comment!! But you’re right…how are they affording it?? The truth is, that they’re not!! They’re going into debt or not paying other things - it’s as simple as that. I have a VERY healthy salary…and if I can’t do it all, there’s no way others can do it comfortably. It’s just not worth it to me too keep going into the black hole of debt, or not preparing for retirement, all for views or FOMO.

Sounds like you are very smart with your approach to this. And I think people will be very happy to see content using older products, more than some might realize.
