Thanks for the review. i have been considering upgrading. I have 2 of the older 18V drills and 2 of the 14V. They all work fine but the batteries aren't lasting so well and it will be just as cheap to buy a whole drill kit as it will to replace batteries. i can save a few $$ with rebuilt but i haven't met anyone who had their batteries professionally rebuilt that was happy with them a year later. I'll probably go with 2 of the $109 units. The only bad thing is that i also have the big kit - circular saw, sawzall, light that came with my 18V hammerdrill as well as a DeWalt radio/charger which I use all the time. if I upgrade to the newer unit and batteries, all that stuff is useless to me. Maybe I'll throw a deal out to ebay land.
5:23 Really impressed by this guy's left-hand finger action pulling out each screw. (I'm sure his wife is pleased as well.)
I believe the more expensive is the: DCD790. The visual difference is the DCD790 has yellow in the pistol grip whereas the DCD780 does not.
Just picked one up a couple days ago (dcd771) and love it! Watched your video and was impressed. Thanks for the review!
I have this model , got it from Home Depot. When using this with a 1/2 " bit after drilling the hole I put it in reverse to help pull the bit out of the wood and the whole chuck comes out in my hand. It snaps back in but does it again the next time I use it in reverse. Is this a defective unit ?
That dcd771 out sells the the more premium drill buy far on amazon and home depot.
This was helpful to me. Thank you.
Thanks for the review
I noticed during the demo that you had both of the units set on "2", speed mode (versus "1", torque mode). I'm often confused as to which mode to use. Can you "shed" any light on this? Thx
You can use both settings to drive screws in but if your driving lags bolts in then 2nd gear is best, also 2nd gear gives you more control when driving screws in!!!!
What load of crap.
Speed one for driving most of the time. Speed one has more torque and less chance of ruining the drill or screw. Speed 2 is ok for long skinny fixings, just start slow.

hi. there were 2 models. one costs $209 and one costs $109. can you please post the 2 model numbers, price and if they are both drill/drivers please?
cheaper one: DCD771
more expensive: DCD780
thanks!
Is the DCD771 a hammer drill or just a regular drill? Is it good for drilling holes in metal and wood?
mike barela Yes
thank you very much, nice video very informative.
The brushless one sounds like a dentist drill. I hate that.

Dcd771 is terrible, bits fall out battery is terrible and it stalls when using paddle bits
What's that ugly kinking sound it's making when it stops, sounds like it's falling apart already.
