For decades I have been a victim. I became a student. I got a therapist, put on my big girl panties and got to work. It was exhausting. Ren actually shouted out that he would “take on the forces of evil” before he became ill. He mentions this in his story during the 8 chapter series he recently put out on his other channel (@Renmakessstuff). He said that that statement in particular, came back to taunt him throughout the years of his illness. His stem cell transplant was actually done in Los Angeles, but he is currently in Canada receiving treatment for everything that came with the years of going untreated. Love that you’re spreading Rens music and genius around for others to discover. Thank you
After the release of the 8 part series on his other channel, is when he released “Troubles”. I recommend you see that as it’s a summary of what all transpired put into one song.

When I first watched/heard this song, I wondered what he meant by "I suffered the consequences" after saying he would fight the forces of evil. Now it seems obvious to me that 1) he set up a kind of challenge between his "two selves," the dark and the light, and 2) he was never meant to utterly destroy the evil, but to come to terms with it, learn from it, shift it around into something positive, assimilate the two selves, use the dark side as an asset for creativity. I'm not even sure how to say it, but that's the gist of what I'm trying to say. Like the yin and yang combining into one = Ren. 🤠

This was a fantastic guy to have on for this intro. Everyone is now going to throw suggestions at him, and due to his musical theatre background, the obvious shout is the Tale of Jenny & Screech trilogy ( which is obviously fantastic) but perhaps the three tracks that explain who Ren is, in my opinion, are “Patience” - (the live performance version), ‘Pocketful of Pain’ and ‘Seven Sins’.
However whatever he decides for himself to explore, he can’t go very far wrong. I suggest the three above because they ensure you instantly understand who, why and what he is as an artist.

Good evening, first off thank you for the videos, reacting to Ren. Christian, you are correct to be overwhelmed, I believe most are. I happened upon "HI REN" by complete accident on tiktok, a quick excerpt of "HI REN" got me searching for "HI REN" on youtube. Once I listened and saw this beautiful work of art, being a creative as well, this song wrecked, I mean dislodged my demons' and their foothold on my life. I have realized that all creatives endure mental anguish in order to create. Create, I will and to be damned my self doubt.
Jenny and Screech followed up with Violet's tale. Or Hunger.

Everyone loves to see a pretty face react to Ren but for me, even more I love to see inspiration and understanding... Love what you're doing Great guest. Would love to see more of him. Totally up to you if course, but you may want to consider watching Ren's 8 chapter video series where he reads to us his life and health journey from age 19 -26 which is when he got his stem cell transplant and how he got to where he is today. His words tell us his story in a poignant, inspirational and factual way. He got the Lyme diagnosis in December 2015.😊
One video I think you should share is Ren’s video Crutch feat. Bibi - I don’t think it gets enough attention and it is so raw.

Another excellent reaction! Christian's breakdown was pretty astute, especially for a first-time view, noticing the shadows on the ground, realizing how important the performance aspect of the song is, etc. It'd be great to have him back on for more Ren/The Big Push reactions. Would love for him to see the Money Game series and even some of his live busking sessions where Ren draws the audience into his performance just by being Ren on a street corner with a guitar. Before Christian dives too far down the rabbit hole on his own, it would be great to see his take on other Ren live performances. When Doom (and Wolfenstein 3D) came out on PC back in the early 90s, we didn’t have a genre for games like that. For years to come anything similar was just called a “Doom clone”. You’re right - we don’t have a genre for this kind of music, but I expect to see a groundswell in “Ren-like” music in the years to come as people eschew commercialism and rediscover true art.

According to Ren it took him about 7 years to finish 'Hi Ren'. That's why it's so complex and the structure is so defined

No stemcell in CANADA, he receive that traitment in USA few years ago, in Canada is now traite for the damage that Lyme have done in his body. I think it would be cool if you watch Trouble with your guess as well, it's king the ending of that full ''SickBoi'' chapter.
There were 4 takes total. The video is pieced together from various takes. However, the music and spoken word are entirely one-take.
Ren took the audio and painstakingly leveled and EQ'ed it to remove the head turns. Amazing talent.
I hadn't heard that..so freaking cool!
The music and the poetry at the end are two different takes. He wasn't happy with his words so that is an unrehearsed rewrite at the end.

Enjoyed this. But it’s not just “creative types”. It’s self-doubt. Everyone has it.
If you watch behind the scene's they did 4 takes and this single one was the one they went with. They were trespassing and got caught and told to leave. They let them finish and that was that. They really had NO BUDGET for filming. He said they spent less then a 1000 pounds for this from start to finish. And it is ALL 1 take. It looks like a cut when he gives his end monologue but it is not .. The artistry of REN !! Keep spreading his music, He is a artist of my life time and I am 68. was a avid rocker in bay area SF so I seen all the great rockers. hundreds of concerts. But none like REN !!
The audio I understand is from one take, but there are cuts between the four takes in the video in a few places (the hospital gown goes up and down in places, and at the start of the “newsflash” part, it jumps from him having his hand on the neck of the guitar to not). I’m sure they would have recorded however many times it took to make it one shot but I’m kinda glad they got interrupted as the performance they captured with this take is lighting in a bottle.

Great video but just an FYI for future refrence. The audio is from one take but the video is made up of four different takes... Don't believe me? Watch the video again but keep your focus on his lapel mic, the continuity is all over the place. I was super chuffed when I spotted it, cos I knew something would be there somewhere I just had to find it. The mistake I mean, it shows that we are all human and even with something as damn near perfect as this is, there was still something that they missed. It just makes me happy to know, I'm not really sure why. Lol.
