    The very best presentation I could ever have on adjustable bed bases. I would have already purchased one if only someone could have explained and illustrated it as well as you have. I thank you very much for including the mattress info and the info on putting the base inside of another bed frame. I am going to Amazon and order this.

    $545 for a Twin XL. Mine will be delivered in two days. I can't wait! I've been using a manual adjustable bed frame for a couple years, and when you're chronically ill and disabled, manual adjustable bed frames are so difficult! I have to put my entire body into it, and it's limited to only a few positions because it adjusts and rests on notches. In two days, I will finally be able to adjust to any position, while never having to get up, much less having to fight with it. Life will be a bit easier on me, without needing $1,000 or more!

    Informative. Tempur people sold us two twinXL adjustable ergo base to work in tandem instead of king probably to make more money but they had a good point about if you ever need to move it’s easier/more portable.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  3 роки тому +1

      Hi. Thanks for the comment. The other advantage of course is that the Twin XL units can be operated independently -- that's helpful if you or your partner's needs or preferences change down the road. Not sure what you paid, but going that route (two Twin XLs vs one King) usually doesn't cost that much more.
      Happy New Year and sleep well!

    Hello Question for you for the adjustable bed I see that there is a mesh under the bed the mattress I was looking at the company says that their mattress does not do well with a mesh bottom... the top fabric of the bed is it a hard material ? or is it just a simple fabric cover over the mesh .... Thanks for the great review as I'm currently shopping for a new bed and an adjustable base. I just clicked your link and the queen size is on sale for $499 so I'm really seriously considering this vs the Lineal and Purple Powerbase. My question is do you feel that it is sturdy? I noticed that the base was moving as you were gesturing while talking but the Lineal base didn't do that when you were reviewing it. I don't like unintentional movement and get nauseous easily so am a bit concerned about that. Any insight? Thanks so much!

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  6 років тому +1

      Hi Monica -- Thanks for your question, and sorry I missed it earlier. I do know what you mean about the base moving a bit during my gestures when I had it in an upright position. I don't think that this is necessarily a negative reflection on how "sturdy" the base is, but I do think it may be slightly less "stable" than the Lineal base in this particular regard. That being said, I also think it's worth pointing out that while I am not someone who gets nauseous easily, this movement was subtle enough that I didn't actually notice it when I was on the base. Put another way, I certainly wouldn't say that the base felt "unstable" when I was on it. I hope that's helpful.

      Hm. I'm not quite sure what you are asking -- I think you are asking about the thread of the screws? You've got us on that one. But maybe that's a question for Classic Brands -- you can contact them here: www.classicbrands.com/support/contact-us/

    This one looks like it might work for me. The fact that you said you can leave the legs off and mount it on a platfrom would be great, because I can use my current platform bed, which is basically a plywood platform. Is the clearance about 3 inches for the motor?

    Finally, some critical facts about adjustable beds, thx! Do you think a wired remote would be more reliable or are the wireless virtually lifetime? Do you think a gel mattress would be better to use than a hybrid?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Nick -- Thanks for your question. As someone who wishes they could still buy a car without any computers or other excessive technology in it, I appreciate the concerns about the wireless remote and the perceived reliability of a wired remote. That said, in this case, my guess is that the dependability differences between wired and wireless would be rather slight, while the added convenience of a wireless remote is very real and very meaningful IMHO.
      RE: what kind of mattress would be best, we assess adjustable base compatibility in every one of our mattress reviews, and there is no one mattress type that has a monopoly on this -- adjustable base compatibility tends to come down to other more nuanced construction characteristics like what type of quilting is used, what type of edge support is used, how firm the underlying support layer is, etc. So it can only be assessed on a brand by brand level.
      Notwithstanding this point, I would recommend that adjustable base compatibility *not* be your primary driver when choosing between the various types of available mattresses. There are other far more critical factors to consider, starting with getting a mattress that will be a proper fit for your needs from a spinal alignment and pressure relief standpoint. My suggestion would be to start with our mattress matching quiz, which will go through the other key factors and will narrow the universe of options to mattresses that best match your other needs and preferences. From there you can watch or read our reviews of those mattresses to make sure they really do meet your needs, including in the adjustable base compatibility department. You can find that quiz here:
      www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/
      I hope that's helpful.

    NIce descriptive video,but it's frustrating that no one mentions the mattress base heights vs the leg options. Could you measure please ?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  6 років тому +1

      Hi +fraxus -- Thanks for your question, and sorry we didn't include that information in the video. The leg height options are 10.5", 6.5", or 4". On top of that, the thickness of the platform itself is 4.3", meaning the total height options would be 14.8", 10.8" or 8.3". So for example, if you put this base on the floor with the legs at the tallest height (as shown in the video) with a 10" mattress on top, then the top of your mattress would be 24.8" off the ground.

  • @villafam8465

    Hello and thanks for the info. For a king bed where the frame is inside the furniture as you described, and there are two twin box springs that are exposed (above the furniture base) as well as the exposed mattress on top, I'm wondering if this base is tall enough, too keep the bed height without using this box springs?
    Second question, is there a way to compensate for the line that will be created down the middle if a couple uses the independent adjustable version of this bed? It would be helpful if you could do a video showing (visually) the pros and cons between choosing in a dual version and a single king base. Because it sends like the couple would have to agree to sleep or sit up, but if they have the single version, would that be like sleeping separate with a large gap between the couple and could it also pose a Danger of a foot or arm gets trapped accidently?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  3 роки тому

      Hi and thanks for the question. I'm not sure I'm understanding the question though. If you want to use an adjustable base, you DO NOT use a box spring at all. The mattress sits on top of the adjustable base so that it can bend when you operate the settings. Perhaps you are wanting to know if a mattress + adjustable base is the same height as a mattress + box spring? If that's the case, then it all depends. Box springs come in different heights -- so you'd need to measure the total height of your mattress/box spring/frame setup.
      When you set up the Classic Brands adjustable base, you can choose which legs to use -- either 4", 6.5" or 10.5 inches. Add those to the height of your mattress to get close to the height of your original setup.
      As for the split between two Twin XL mattresses on an adjustable base, again this partly depends on the mattresses you are using. As for appendages getting caught, there really isn't going to be a big enough gap. Certainly remote controls or magazines could slide down. Keep in mind that the moving/metal parts of the base are all on the bottom, so the only metal would be in whatever mattress you are using. That again can be avoided by choosing an all-foam bed, or an innerspring mattress that has a perimeter of foam around the outside.
      Hope that is helpful!

    You should do an instructional video on the optional headboard brackets for this bed. I have read many reviews and most are negative. However, they may be installing them improperly.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  4 роки тому

      Hi Jeff. Thanks for the suggestion. We don't really focus on foundations and adjustable bases as much as we do mattresses. We do know that accessories to adapt an older headboard to an adjustable bed sometimes work and sometimes don't -- and there's so much variance between furniture. It definitely can be a tricky fit.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  4 роки тому

      Hi Michael. Thanks for the question. If only there were an easy answer... furniture has no construction standard or sizing, and although adjustable bed manufacturers do sell kits so that you can drop them into bed frames, there's no guarantee they will work without some jerry-rigging. Best bet is to contact the manufacturer before buying and talk it through with customer service, who will better be able to assess whether your particular sleigh bed will accommodate the adjustable frame.

      Hi Paul -- Thanks for your question. I'm afraid I don't have the statistics on exactly what are the maximum angles, however you can see the maximum head angle well at 1:52 in the video -- it looks to be about 60 degrees. Likewise, you can see the maximum foot angle well at 2:54 in the video -- it looks to be about 30 degrees. I hope that helps.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  4 роки тому

      Hi there -- Thanks for your question. Off-hand, I can't think of a reason that one adjustable base would be more-suited to a senior than any other. Adjustable bases do vary in their features of course, but those features tend to be equally appealing across different age groups. Most can be operated in a relatively straightforward way with a remote control, like this one. It may also be worth adding that adjustable beds are popular for everyone these days, not just seniors.
      We have a detailed article on adjustable bases that walks through all the different features available on the market, so you can make sure you find one that has all the features you want.

    Hi, My question is this base will fit any mattress.....like Serta Mattress etc......?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  6 років тому

      Hi Debra -- Thanks for your question. The answer is that this base *will* work with any mattress that is compatible with an adjustable base, however *not all* mattresses are compatible with an adjustable base. In order to be compatible, the mattress must be designed to bend without being damaged.
      To put it differently, the question you need to be asking is about the mattress, and whether it is adjustable base compatible, not about the base. Once you have identified a mattress that is compatible with adjustable bases, you can definitely use it on this base (or any other adjustable base).
      I hope that helps.

      Some of the user reviews do comment that it works with their adjustable base.

    Would the king size be difficult to get into a bedroom? Is it broken down in the box to assemble after getting it through the door?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  6 років тому +1

      Hi Heather -- Thanks for your question. TBH I have not actually seen the king size version in its box, however I feel pretty confident that its assembly process would be the same as the queen size version, which is described at 13:42 in the video. In general, assembly is very easy and quick (less than 15 minutes), though it does require a bit of floor space as you'll want to have the base upside down while you're doing it.
      In terms of the difficulty of getting it into the bedroom, the king size version is certainly pretty heavy (up near 200 lbs) so will definitely be difficult from that perspective. One technique we've used in moving adjustable bases around its to put the base on its side with a few soft blankets under it, so that it can be slid pretty easily across the floor by 2 people.
      In terms of maneuverability, if you move it while still in its box, it will be folded in half, making it much easier to turn corners with it. If you assemble it outside the bedroom and carry it in that way, it will be much harder to turn corners but would certainly be no problem fitting it through a doorway, especially since the legs can easily be unscrewed.
      I hope that helps.

      My pleasure Heather! You can see what the box looks like in the section I referenced at 13:42. That is the queen size box, so the king size would be basically be the same height (because king and queen are the same length) but about 16" longer (because king is 16" wider than queen). The depth of the box may be hard to see in the video but IIRC it was less than 12".

      Hi there -- Thanks for your question. :) First, just to be clear, as the title of this video states, this was intended to be an explanation rather than a review, so we did not do sufficient testing of the sturdiness of this base to be able to quantify it on this front. That said, I can certainly say that based on the time we did spend with it, it certainly didn't seem flimsy. And even moreso, if your concern is simply about sex, I can add that it would be hard for me to foresee a situation where that particular activity would inflict any damage on the structural integrity of the base (such as the legs, etc.).
      I hope that's helpful.

    Whats the build quality like of this base. I like that this base has the wide cross bracket at each corner. Seems like it improves rigidity and gives the feet a good flat surface to screw down too. Some bases the feet attach to the narrower main frame. Also this base looks identical to the Nectar bases construction. Does Nectar make Classics bases or vice versa?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  3 роки тому

      Hi Adam. We didn't have any trouble at all with it -- in terms of setup, operation, or functionality. However, I see the Amazon reviews are mixed -- seems some people had some wonky/bent parts -- whether they were shipped that way or whether they were damaged in shipping is unclear.
      You're correct that it's very similar to the Nectar Bed -- and it's certainly possible that the same factory makes both of them. That's very common when it comes to adjustable bases. Historically, a relatively small handful of companies make most of them, although the manufacturing options have diversified a bit as it's become more common for bases to be imported from abroad. IIRC both the Classic Brands and Nectar bases are both made overseas.

    goodbed, what is the highest weight that this bed and frame goes to and is the bed made to the height of ADA HEIGHT STANDARDS FOR DISABLED PERSONS??

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  7 років тому +3

      Hi Barbara -- Thanks for your question. The weight limit of this base is 650 lbs (including the weight of the mattress, which in a queen size is typically around 100 lbs or so). We talk more about this in the video at the 11:43 mark.
      In terms of accessibility for disabled people, it looks like the ADA recommends that the top of the mattress be no more than 20-23" from the floor. The platform of this base is about 4-5" tall and the legs can be set to as low as 4" off the ground. This would mean that you could use this base with a 10-14" mattress (of which there are countless choices available) and still meet these accessibility requirements.
      I hope that helps.

    Is that one of the Classic Brands gel foam mattresses? If so, how would you rate it? (I'm on a fixed disability income; can't afford a high end mattress for another year or two.) I've been eyeing the 12" one on Amazon for < $250.

      Hi +Katatawnic -- Thanks for your question. Yes, that is definitely one of the Classic Brands mattresses. I don't recall exactly which one it was, but I think it might be a slightly older version of this one: amzn.to/2ueINdk

      GoodBed
      Thanks for the response. 😊 Yes, that is the one I've been contemplating. However, I've found a latex one that'll be much better for my needs; the sinking you get from memory foam is painful for me, and apparently latex doesn't do that. It's also supposed to be more supportive and last longer than memory foam. I'm tired of memory foam mattresses losing support within a year! I also very much dislike the idea of all the chemicals in memory foam, which are not present in natural latex.
      IF these assertions are false, please let me know. The latex mattress is $100 more, and I certainly don't want to throw good money after bad. I just want my bedridden existence to be more tolerable.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  6 років тому +2

      Hi +Katatawnic -- Happy to clear a few things up for you on this:
      1) You are correct in your understanding that latex is more buoyant than memory foam.
      2) In terms of the durability, you can't make any categorical generalizations since quality can vary a lot for both memory foam and latex, so the relative longevity will depend on the quality of the latex vs the quality of the memory foam. That said, you're right that in general there is more cheap memory foam out there, which does lose its resiliency very quickly.
      3) In terms of chemicals, you're right again that memory foam (being a petroleum-based product) does have more chemicals than all-natural latex (which comes from the sap of a rubber tree). That being said, there is a 0.0% chance that a mattress that costs only $350 is made entirely of all-natural latex. At that price point, it most likely has a small amount of latex over an ordinary polyurethane foam (petroleum-based) core, and/or uses synthetic latex -- which has roughly the same properties of natural latex but is made from petroleum rather than the sap of a rubber tree. Even so, the latex option is going to have slightly fewer chemicals, but it is not going to be the big difference you were led to believe.
      I hope that helps.

    • @Katatawnic
      @Katatawnic 6 років тому

      GoodBed
      Yeah, I should've clarified. The base of the mattress is synthetic foam, and the top 4" layer is 90-95% natural latex. So only 5-10% of the top 4" layer is synthetic. Once I've been able to save up, I plan on looking into a mattress that is latex for all layers. But a hybrid will work well for me until I can get a hold of a higher end mattress.
      Thank you for all your help. Your videos are extremely informative, and your interaction in the comments is very much appreciated. 😊

      Hi Monica. That's a great question. Many adjustable bases come with three height options. For example, the Classic Brands base (in the video here), the Nectar adjustable base and the Reverie R650 can sit as high as 15 inches. The Lineal base can sit 18 inches high. That 15-18" range is pretty typical -- so from there you can decide if you want to add feet lifters.

    any recommendations of a frame that will fit well with a queen size of one of these?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  7 років тому

      Hi Arturo -- Happy to help, but am not 100% sure what you mean since the term "bed frame" typically refers to something that you wouldn't need at all when you have an adjustable base.
      By frame, are you referring to a piece of furniture (e.g., a bed or headboard) that would go around or behind this adjustable base for aesthetic purposes? If so, in terms of "fitting well," I *think* you should be OK with just about anything that is intended to go around the perimeter of your mattress, or at the head / foot of your mattress. The main key is to make sure you are *not* getting a piece that has anything going across the center (e.g., to provide support for the mattress itself), because that space all needs to be open for the base. The idea here is to simply drop the adjustable base right into the furniture, just as you would drop an ordinary "bed frame" into the furniture.
      That said, it is definitely worth confirming with the manufacturer to make sure that there is nothing about the furniture that would cause problems if it were used with an adjustable base (e.g., if the headboard or footboard sticks out in such a way that prevents the head or foot from elevating, etc.).
      I hope that helps.

    Most if not all King adjustable bases are made of two XL Twin beds put together, in two separate packages, so you can have them sent ups. they would usually come with extra parts to lock them together. They would be way to heavy if it was one base.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  6 років тому +2

      Hi +Getdownnat -- Thanks for your comment. You are right that this is a common configuration for a king size setup, however with this base you also have the option of a single king-size base, which could save you some money relative to getting two TwinXL bases. The key advantage of two getting two TwinXL bases is that it enables you to elevate each side of the mattress independently -- of course, to do this you would also need to have two TwinXL mattresses rather than a single king-size mattress. FYI, this topic is covered in the section that starts at 10:28 in the video.

      Hi Tony -- Thanks for your question. You can see some more detailed discussion of this at 9:23 in the video, but the answer is that you should be able to drop this base right into most non-platform beds. To be clear about some terminology in this case, by "bed" I mean a piece of furniture that goes around the mattress and typically includes a headboard as well. Let me know if you need any additional clarification.

      UH OH. I thought that since this bed is only 10 inches high when used with the 4 inch legs, It would work best with a Platform bed. The Platform bed that I want to use had a headboard, footboard and sideboards. Boards all around. The distance from the floor to the top of the siderails is exactly 10 inches,. I thought this would be a perfect fit. What do you think?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  6 років тому +1

      Hi Tony -- What I meant by "platform" is bed that includes a flat platform (or slats) on which you would normally place the mattress. Does the bed you bought include this? If so, perhaps it can be removed? The only point I was trying to make is that you are generally going to want the legs of this base to be resting directly on the floor. I hope that helps.

      Yes, the bed has slats but they can be completely removed and yes, the bed will be resting directly on the floor as it is right now. 10 inches high. The platform bed I bought will be going around the bed. I have a 10" Tuft & Needle mattress so the rails should be exactly even with the bed, and the mattress will be 10 inches above the top of the siderails. That's how I was calculating it. By the way, this bed is AWESOME. Very comfortable and the motors are QUIET. Much better than beds costing a lot more in my opinion,. Thanks for the help!

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  4 роки тому

      Hi Kathy. No, mattresses are not included with an adjustable base. The adjustable base is always a separate purchase unless you come across some kind of package deal at a mattress store.
      Hope that helps and thanks for the comment.

      @@goodbed so any mattress you like can be paired with the base?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  4 роки тому

      You want to make sure the mattress is compatible but the majority are. Any bed that's sold compressed and shipped to you in a box will be compatible. Any all-foam mattress should be compatible. The ones to watch out for are older-style innerspring beds that are sold like furniture -- they often have a heavy metal wire around the perimeter of the bed that isn't meant to be bent.

    Is this as good as the s-cape?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  5 років тому +1

      Hi Rick -- Thanks for your question, and sorry I missed this earlier. This is certainly a good base that packs a lot of features for its price point, but in general is not as fully-featured as the S-Cape. As an example, one very notable feature that the S-Cape adds is wall-hugger functionality. For comparison, we did a full run-down of the S-Cape as well -- you can check out its features in our video overview here:

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  6 років тому +3

      Hi +sonjae09 -- Thanks for your question. You *can* have a whole frame, but you don't need one. A stand-alone headboard can be fastened securely to this base on its own. This is true for most other adjustable bases as well. I hope that helps.

    would you recommend this product for the price

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  7 років тому +2

      Hi Daniel -- Thanks for your question. In general, we do think that the features on this base compare very favorably with other options in the $600-$700 price range (for queen size). We didn't do any testing as it relates to durability or longevity, however the reviews it's gotten from consumers do give us some reassurance on that front.
      That said, keep in mind that Amazon updates its prices many times per day, and we've seen the price of this product vary by hundreds of dollars (even in the course of a single day). I wouldn't recommend buying it above the price range mentioned previously. You can see their current lowest price here:

    This base actually has a wallhugger version. I was wondering though...If I am going to fit this base inside of my bed frame, should I even get the wallhugger version? What exactly is the point of it? I notice that it has a nice frame around the adjustable base.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  7 років тому +2

      Hi + toomuch4em -- Thanks for your question, and for pointing out that Classic Brands has recently released a wall-hugger version of their base. For the benefit of other readers, the wall-hugger version can be seen here:
      amzn.to/2tdd2Ny
      In terms of your question, wall-hugger functionality has nothing to do with putting the base inside of your existing bed frame (you can do that with or without the wall-hugger feature). The purpose is generally to make it easier to access your nightstand even as the head of the base elevates. Without wall-hugger functionality, when you elevate the head of the bed, *your* head is actually moving forward (away from the wall) -- which means that in a fully elevated position, your nightstand is actually behind you and awkward to reach. With the wall-hugger functionality, as you raise the head, the entire bed slides backward toward the wall in order to keep *your* head in the same place. You can see it demonstrated more visually here:
      ua-cam.com/video/eIM6eyPFgB0/v-deo.htmlm29s
      I hope that helps.

    What's the warranty on the frame?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  7 років тому +3

      Hi +mykylc -- Thanks for your question. On the Amazon page for this product, it states "3 Year Bumper to Bumper Warranty." You can follow this link to see it: www.goodbed.com/o/p/265187/classic-brands-adjustable-bed-base/amazoncom/classic-sleep-products/
      Typically this means that any and all manufacturer defects would be covered for the first 3 years, and you would be out of pocket nothing for the cost of repairing them during this time. I hope that helps.

      @@kennethgoodmansr4749 I assume you're asking whether you can drop this base into a sleigh bed or other piece of decorative furniture like that. Generally speaking you can, but i'd recommend double-checking the dimensions of your furniture and making sure your furniture doesn't have any rails that are meant to go underneath the mattress, as those could interfere with the movements of the base. I hope that's helpful.

      Hi Josue -- Thanks for your question. You don't need a specific mattress, but you do specifically need one that is compatible with an adjustable base. We talk more about this in the Mattress Compatibility section of the video here: ua-cam.com/video/OUvPmXfwf6s/v-deo.html
      FYI, we also assess (and show) adjustable base compatibility on most of our mattress reviews, so you can see how well that mattress will work with an adjustable base. Here's a list of all of our in-depth reviews: ua-cam.com/play/PLXx2X7WCTxdIrw64j0_BTLSXLVb3bDTTH.html

      HI Deborah. Thanks for the question. Classic Brands sells a bracket kit that you can use to attach a headboard, but the base doesn't come with one automatically (that's the case for most adjustable bases -- you have to pay extra for a kit to attach a headboard).

    My mattress is 13" memory foam. Is that too thick for this adjustable frame

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  6 років тому

      Hi Debbie -- Thanks for your question. The answer here does not depend at all on which base you choose. This base is able to handle any mattress that is adjustable-base compatible.
      As such, the answer here *will* depend on your particular mattress. Most 13" memory foam mattresses should be fine on an adjustable base. The only thing you might find on a thicker mattress is that it might not be good for the mattress (or particularly comfortable for you) to have both the head and feet elevated all the way at the same time. That said, I would check the warranty for your specific mattress first to make sure that it won't be voided by use on an adjustable base.
      I hope that helps.

That said, most mattress retailers these days have begun offering at least some selection of adjustable bases, and you are certainly correct that Mattress Firm is no exception.
