Wow. This oil bypass valve is news to me. Very bad news. I’ve built 2 RB25’s with SSS Motorsport relocation kits, and now my Nitto 2.8 just got back from machine shop, about 60% finished assembling, and I have a plugged oil filter bypass valve. I’m using a Taarks oil filter mount on this kit, with an Improved racing thermostatic oil filter mount that uses a HUGE GM oil filter. I’m hoping I’ll be okay, otherwise I don’t know what to do! Edit: it looks like the giant LS oil filter I’ll be using has a bypass valve built into it. Is it possibly different from the RB oil filter? Love these series so far, although some of the stuff I’m learning is too late for my already EXTREMELY expensive build haha
If your kit utilizes a GM filter with an oil filter bypass valve built into it, you should be ok! Easy to check, cut one open! This is just relevant to the RB Oil filters, specifically.
@@boost.factory great news. I will definitely check one out, even though I don’t have many other options at this point. My machine shop mainly does 2js and Domestic/V8 stuff. They did a great job cleaning/tapping/plugging my oil galleries and my block was actually their first PRP brace install. I had no idea about this bypass valve, but I will definitely let them know about it as a future option. My last 2-3 RB builds all used relocation blocks with LS oil filters, which must be why I haven’t had the issue come up. I guess sometimes it’s better to be dumb lucky than smart haha. Thanks for all of this wonderful info! I it’s finished torquing my head and installing my cams and all this week. Im hoping to have my engine in the car in the next few weeks! Love the content man! You guys are super thorough!
Just saw your edit from the comment that re bumped this! yes the RB Big Blue oil filter is unique in that it does not have the bypass valve built in, this is why its important to have the one in the block. if your gm filter is equipped then this should be ok as the valve is in the system just in the filter now!
This content is GOLD!
Best and most detailed rb build series on UA-cam. Thank you so much.
Great videos! Thankyou
Looks really good. :-) ❤
Damn why you got to be in Canada! Wish you were in socal for my Rb25

I'm glad you asked because I'm on the same boat with my forged rb26. Gonna cut my oil filter tomorrow 💪🏽

How do you remove the oil restrictor from the block
We TIG Weld a threaded slide hammer tip onto each plug and pull them out! Maybe we do a video on this! 🤔
