Classic jam from 1980. My dad’s tune. May dad and Louis Johnson the guy on the right playing bass RIP! Dad is up in heaven jamming with Louis right now!
This one had EVERYONE up on the dance floor! Another great groove like this is guitarist/ vocalist George Benson’s “ Give Me the Night”! It’s a groove!
My husband of 26 years and I met when he played bass in a band that played a whole lotta The Brothers Johnson and similar music. In fact… “I’ll Be Good to You” was kinda our song when we first got together. RIP Louis (one of the best bass players EVER!!) 🙂🙏💜✌️
I loved this song when it came out in the late 70s, and I still love it in 2023!!! "Ain't We Funking Now" & "Strawberry Letter 23" are my all-time favorites. This music will never sound old even a million years from now!!!!!
The 2 guys in the car are the 2 brothers; George & Louis Johnson. They had several hits back in the day. Louis, the bass player, did a lot of music for Michael Jackson. Did you notice that this was a band playing the music. Check out Mint Condition, ConFunkShun, Earth Wind & Fire, Isley Bothers, & Kool & the Gang.
They were protégés of Quincy Jones. Quincy Jones produced this and Michael Jacksons Off The Wall and Thriller albums. The Brothers Johnson were session players on both albums.
I remember this song from my time as a nurse stationed in San Antonio back in 1980. We were all at the club ! Such a great song from The Brothers Johnson! ❤️
I remember that song when it came out. it was one of the songs in my 8 track tape player I had to play before I went to the club to get me hype up. to be honest one of the greatest funk and dance band of all time
That's what music is supposed to do,..make your soul leap, cry, rejoice,..be hopeful,..these guys in the 70's,.like the 80's, so many bands, artists everytime you turn around,..the Isley Brothers, coming out of the 60's, completely different, then lighting up the 70s, Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind and Fire, Al Green, Aretha, Minnie Riperton and that's just the r&b, soul, funk,..Boston, ELO(Electric Light Orchestra), Yes, Pink Floyd again coming off the 60's, more bands huh, bending the envelope with their incredible artistry, gifts from the universe,..do keep going, check out all I mentioned if you haven't yet,..so many I forgot to mention,..I've got decades of music in my head,..decades,..Godspeed, Peace ✌
Loved this song when I was a kid (I’m 48 now😂) This band looked my dad and his Vietnam war buddies. I call my sons the brothers Johnston…they don’t get the joke….damn millennials.
I get it. You're young and kinda jaded. It's OK. I was 22. White. Canadian. I'd *met* ten black people *in my entire life*. The Brothers Johnson blew me away. For *years*. I had no *concept*. No *idea*. All of my horizons broke all at once. Before that, all I had was the Supremes, the Four Tops, The Jackson Five. Anybody who had showed up on Ed Sullivan. Then the Brothers Johnson. And I saw a whole universe of music that I'd never even *imagined* before burst open in front of my eyes. I'm 65, now. I still cry when I see these videos. Not because I'm sad. Because I remember what it meant. That's when I set out to look for music. Not what I'd heard, or what was familiar. Specifically, for anything that I *knew nothing about*. I found Bluegrass, Funk, R&B,, Motown, and the list goes on and on. Today, my musical tastes would best be described as "wildly eclectic". Everything from Wagner's "Die Valkyrie", to Sakamoto's "Ue O Mue TI, Aruko". From Mocedades "Eres Tu" to Black Sabbath's "Fairies Wear Boots". The Brothers Johnson were a turning point in my life. And the song that it all hinged on was "Strawberry Letter 23". You might want to look that up:
The Johnson Brothers played instruments on Michael Jackson's first two albums " Off the wall and Thriller ".
The yacht rock band Toto also played on the "Thriller" album. Members of Toto also wrote the track "Human Nature"
Nothing out today can touch these GOAT bands!
And that's on PERIOD✊🏽❤️

You 2 are not showing what was on greatest hit at that time, Quincy Jones was part of it, give it another chance and the other hits. ❤❤❤❤
You are not feeling it, it's ok, but at that time, we were jumping 😊
