    the process of learning, from my experience is like this:
    1) copy other works to a pixel-perfect resolution for a few times
    2) copy others works but start to play with some elements like shapes, colors, moving stuff left and right, to fit stuff better for what *you* want
    3) go rogue and make art on your own because now you have the freedom of knowledge and control over that knowledge to the point you can work independantly without reference.

    • @waixy230
      @waixy230 2 роки тому +19

      I'm doing the same :) actually I used to copy perfectly other works (except the colors, I always had my own coloring style) I did this for about 3 years, and in the last year one of my friends motivated me(she is an amazing artist) and I started to learn drawing by heart (ofc at first they were extremly terrible :D) so I watched (and still watching as u can see) tutorial videos and I started to copy others draw with a few changes and nowadays I use a base pose and I just watch the character that i want to draw in this pose. Well ofc I still have a looooot of things to learn especially with the coloring (oh and I didnt mention I just started digital drawing abt 3 weeks ago) but its a relief to see how much I improved in one year and I hope I can be even better soon ^^ These videos are help me very much. (Oh and sorry if I have bad grammar, im still learning english but I hope u can understand)

  • @mimimet6201

    I really liked this, there is nothing wrong with using references I think people who say there is confuse it with those that actually steal art, if you aren't redrawing or even just trying to take any creation and resell it or even just get attention for it, it's not theft. You can use a reference for even the smallest things like having trouble with shading or shaping something. Then there is those of us that have problems with creating a full-body just seeing how long or short something is can also be a reference. Don't take what isn't yours and say it is be inspired and you're doing it right.

    Honestly that coffee looked great!

  • @warpzone8421
    @warpzone8421 2 роки тому +8

    Sorry to all the fans, but I know you want to improve, so here are the reasons why your coffee splash looks bad: It basically all comes down to you treating it like a 2D shape instead of a 3D object. Color: Don't neglect the fact that this is a semitransparent object against a white background! The reason it's darker in some places and lighter in others is because the block of liquid coffee is thinner in some areas so more light passes through. Form: This is like a sheet or blanket of coffee being stretched apart by wind resistance and clumped together by surface tension as it flutters through the air. It's basically made of spheres. The swirly lines aren't just swirly lines. They're partially-disrupted laminar flow; 3D pillars of brown water with ripples running through them! Texture: This isn't "rubbery." Rubbery is more matte and opaque. If anything, water-based liquids are going to be super shiny, like glass or plastic. Recommendations: Study slow-motion video of liquid splashes. Double down on Form. 3D fluid simulations are great because they're simplified in a way that has nothing to do with 2D art theory. Good luck! I'm looking forward to seeing your follow-up! :)

Also click baits wont be bigger than ever cuz u still had to click on the channel first to see the banner. And even when the banner is clickbaity, who cares. People only care for clickbaity things on youtube when it's a youtube that you can what and not some random youtube channel design. Also it depends on what the creator does if it's gonna be messy or hard to see anything. @chalkydusty 2 роки тому +6

    I have a question. I have trouble drawing 2d to make it look 3D, so I use art from other artists to figure out how to shade and how to get the figure right. I’m trying to draw a nendoroid of a character that doesn’t have an official one, so I traced the basic shapes and designs from both the actual character and a drawing of the figure. Does that count as tracing? Or referencing?

    • @generationm2059
      @generationm2059 2 роки тому

      I believe that straddles the line between the two. On one hand, you're learning a lot quicker in understanding forms and how they compose the entire figure. On the other hand, unless you're understanding enough about the forms to the point of knowing how to change them to form different poses and characters out of them, you run the risk of depriving yourself of much needed understanding, especially if you're using those exact poses in your artwork.

      It depends on what happened in the situation but in some cases it's inevitable that they'd do that.
      If the case was copying the art, deeming it as your own and being proud of it (perhaps even earning money from it) then it is honestly disrespectable
      If the case was copying art, not deeming it as your own, and saying it is used for practice purposes only, then it is completely fine
      If the case was using the art as reference and making your own distinct art, deeming it as your own, then it is controversial and questionable, but could be accepted depending on how less you used from the reference
      If the case was using the art as reference and making your own distinct art, but claim it is a practice to simply get better, not saying it is completely your own art and providing the reference, then it is perfectly fine

      @@neeevirus But in my case I only used it to be a inspired art from a well know artist because it's very new and popular those days but I still can assure that the illustration I made is only inspired not literaly copied, if I really want to copy the art then why did I even bother making it for the entire 3 week's to make it. And I still can remember the me back then ended up being discriminate for the entire junior high-school life, so I ended up deleting my Tweeter and make a new one just to read and entertain myself and nothing more

    • @neeevirus
      @neeevirus 3 роки тому +7

      @@Yuan912 i see, so you made an art which was inspired by another art, making it similar but not a copy
      In my opinion that is somewhat acceptable
      But that's only my opinion
      Perhaps the pro artist you mentioned just misunderstood, but it could quite possibly be because his standards for art are high, and he finds it unacceptable for someone to even remotely use someone else's art to any extent.
      If you ever decide to post again, be more cautious/careful, this is the internet after all

      @@neeevirus personally I think it’s acceptable! (Depending on how closely the art was referenced. It’s hard to say without being able to see the two drawings side by side.) For example, if this was a character drawing and it was just referenced for the pose that’s fine to me! There’s only so many ways the human body can move and referencing someone’s else’s pose while implementing your own style on the proportions is completely okay! Especially when it has a different character subject, cropping, etc. But once again, I’d need to see the actual drawing and the original reference to make a real opinion…

      There's never really been an "original artstyle". Most artstyles are inspired by cartoons, realism, anime etc. I recommend using an artstyle that not only do you like, but also that your comfortable with.

      I forgot the youtuber's channel, but his main point is: art style is about problem solving. Example: you have to draw an arm, how you do it is your style.
      On the side note, "everyone" is stealing, even since centuries ago.

    Even though I'm not so good at drawing, watching your videos and finally diving into digital art 7 months ago, Inspired me to create this channel. It's first video Is going public tomorrow and the concept of the video is learning how to draw a head, but from the mind of another beginner, but your head video is also linked in the desc because that video is the reason why my heads are improving. (and of course if whoever watches it would rather watch the more put together original than the "beginner knock off" I call it)It used to take around an hour alone just for a head, but your video simplified it so much for me.
