I don’t know where I was taught this. Maybe it was from an easyriders magazine, but they say to stand on that throw out bearing with 1 foot and spin and if it spins, it’s good.😊.
Anyway, nice to share some garage time with you on a cold winter day. Spring is just around the corner.

@@Mr39knuck I'll give that a try I kind of makes sense I mean cuz it's got a fair amount of pressure when you got it in gear and holding the clutch in.
That's what I keep telling myself spring is around the corner 😉🌞

@@JCcanU I hope that bike gets rescued someday. I like watching my time it's my time the video guy and he rescued a shovel out of someone's yard that they lost interest and he's doing it now in his channel but I hope somebody rescues that bike. Sometimes it's hard to ask the family to purchase the bike or bring up a conversation about it because the person has died. In the early '80s a friend of mine passed away I think it was because he had a bad they put a pacemaker in and I think the pacemaker the electric line was defective. Which I learned later was a great possibility he had two Sportster, but I was hesitant about asking his wife what she was going to do with them. In the end I did not say anything.

@@MoeLarrycurly1 I think his wife is just holding on to the bike as a keepsake they got married in the 70s he owned the bike then so its been part of her life for 50 plus years .

That moisture is probably from condisation through out the years. Maybe its related to the bike i'm working on. lol. I would just clean up on the wheel and maybe put a thin layer of lubricant.

@@edZILLA64 Yes I was able to clean it up pretty good and it's not bent. Because in my books my parts books they seem to stop in 1965 a part number for that rod that goes through the transmission it starts up again in 1975 I can't seem to find any part number for my specific rod for a 1970 I've asked on several of the Facebook shovelhead sites and nobody seems to have an answer. I guess I'm lucky I don't have to try and get that rod. Cuz when I put in the two part numbers one stops at 65 the other starts up at 75 neither one looks like my rod. The one that goes through the transmission. Someone suggested standing on the throw up bearing on a piece of wood or something solid you don't put it on cement. And standing on it and turning yourself with your weight and if it feels like it's turning smoothly with no noise that's how you check out those old time throw up bearings. Makes sense considering there's probably a lot of pressure when it's holding the clutch plates open when you're pulling the lever. That's in good condition also. Have a great weekend

@@Rapsgarage I was thinking of that too I did for the shift lever whenever there is not one. And I have done it on a another bike I may just have to do that also. Even though I'm pretty sure the grease will last a while in there. Have a great weekend

@@Rapsgarage you know I can't find the part number for that rod that goes through the transmission for 1970 that pushes up against the throw out Baring. My parts book One stops at 1965 number and starts up at 1975 which then has the small throwout bearing size of a dime. But for those several years around my year 1970 my parts book does not have a number for that long ride that goes to the transmission. I should be able to clean mine up it was a little rusty. But I'm just curious because when I put in the part number it gives you the two part numbers neither one looks like my rod that goes through the transmission that works off the throat bearing. I'm on the hunt to try and figure out the part number. I've asked it several of the Facebook sites that have for shovelheads but they don't know either.

@ I’ve never thought about doing it on the shifter linkage like that. I’m gonna have to give that a try. It looks like.
