@Zombiemage2 We've never had a rope fail here, or in any real context. In any case, the hole is within an inch of the end of the rope. I'm not sure that it would be a problem if it did pull out. A couple of times in Costa Rica when we've been pulling ropes a long way up through a lot of vegetation the haul line (paracord or zing-it) has broken. The connection to the rope is apparently stronger than the haul line.
Lol watching the video and I’m like, why not just buy a rope with an eye at the end. Then I saw the year this video was created. Lol thank you for your tip
@Zombiemage2 That would work for a lot of situations, but if you were trying to pull a rope through a tight crotch, or as we often do, through a false-crotch type friction saver, carabiner, or pulley, it would be a lot harder.
@maxinpains I think a better way to say it is that you should never put yourself in a position where you can take a fall onto a prussik. There is no inherent problem with simply climbing the rope with prussiks. The classic system uses three prussik knots. You can climb safely with fewer if you are careful to tie a hard knot to your harness every so often.
@danthelambboy You should easily be able to climb a static line with friction knots. Contact us through our web page and we'll be happy to help adjust your system.
Sure - many years ago we did that, but every so often the students would tie it incorrectly and lose the toss. We've found the permanent p-cord loop is a lot more reliable with our population. It is also basically instant...
Hi Mark, yes the Home Depot shrink sleeve is cheap and nasty if you go to a wholesale electrical supply store and get the abrasion resistant 3M shrink sleeve it last way longer.
What a great tip I've thought about it but get called crazy for my ideas. Thanks so much.
Your voice is fine and your video is good to glad very informative.

oh boy, that little hole in the rope trick just saved me endless fumbling in the dark trying to tie onto the bigger rope!
very useful vids! i'll be in the trees soon enough :)
@CornellTreeClimbing ok one more question have you ever had a rope fail because of it?

Try shrink sleeve much neater less prone to snagging on things
Yeah, we use that also. The kind we used didn't wear well over time, but perhaps there is some better version out there.

this might be a stupid question, but instead of burning a hole through the rope wouldn't be easier to buy a eye splice rope.
@preshur Just be glad it isn't yours. There really isn't anything I can do about it.
nie mogę słuchać tego głosu
Dude, cheers to that! He should be working as an police interrogator...any suspect will beg to tell the truth, just to shut his mouth! Lol
