On August 19, 2021, for the first time the sound of kobyz was heard on the stage of the New Wave Hall in Sochi Olympic Park.
The tandem of Igor Krutoy (piano) and Dimash Qudaibergen (voice) with the best Kobys player in the world Olzhas Qurmanbek, have presented a new, really unique song in English with enchanting oriental melodies.
The idea to add kobyz to the new song came to Dimash after he first heard the melody "Stranger". He decided that the folk instrument would fit perfectly into the song, giving it an exciting sound. The performer of the kobyz part is Olzhas Kurmanbek.
The music was created by Russian song-writer Igor Krutoy (musictitan, billionaire), and the lyrics were written by Mary Sharon Vaughn (*1947, is an American musician, songwriter and producer. She writes hits for famous singers around the world) The main arrangement was made by Dimitris Kontopoulos (Greece) and Yerlan Bekchurin (Kazakhstan).
“It was Dimash’s talent that inspired me to write this song, his immense vocal abilities and his desire to sing for a large international audience. Franky, I don’t see anyone else who could perform this piece in such a way”, - Krutoy said. (Source: Dimashnews)

I find this absolutely transfixing. Clearly futuristic, it also uses much of Dimash's full range with frequent skips from very low to very high. The dynamism throughout is mesmerizing and the entire production is nigh on to perfect.

It is completely out of the ordinary how Dimash Qudaibergen manages to convey extremely different emotions by singing almost exactly the same lyrics but using a different dynamic, a different key, a different timbre and different sound production techniques! He begins with the shyness and doubt of a stranger who enters a territory totally foreign to him (when he plays in the piano mode and with sounds surrounded by breath), moves on to the desire to try his strength to achieve a new beginning in life (then when he achieves that magnificent passage through the whole spectrum of his vocal rank using very different techniques of singing on each register) and reaches the end to have the power of the winning hero who not only tried, not only fought but finally defeated (when he shows us the power of his belting and that high and super long note of 20 seconds)! I only scored 3 moments, but they were more because between the choruses there were 2 slightly different moments of storytelling, but both in his register below the bass-baritone and there was another chorus (in total there were 4 choruses and two slightly more parts of the story, all in different dynamics, different keys and very different vocal techniques performed impeccably from a technical point of view, but also with strong emotional effects in the sense of impressive and maximum effect on the audience that practically listened to the whole song almost hypnotized)! For me it was the perfect song of the moment and it was a sublime demonstration of how much Dimash Qudaibergen can still progress even though he is already far beyond his contemporaries ! In this song he covered from C2 to F6 ! This traditional instrument is called Kobyz, it is made of a single piece of wood lined with goatskin, has two strings of horsehair and is an instrument used in ancient times by shamans in their rituals! The composer is Igor Krutoy, but the introduction of this instrument was Dimash's idea and it was seen how important it is in the economy of this song!

AND the wonderful kobysist - or however you say that. Great instrument! It has 2 strings, but only one is played - the other is for resonance, I guess. It's said to be one of or THE original stringed instrument that led to all the rest - ancient heritage.

This bowl-neck lute played with a bow is is an old Turkic stringed instrument and called Kobys or Kylkobyz in Kazakhstan. The Kyrgyz variant, for example, is called the kyl-kyyak.
The Kobys is the oldest string instrument in the world and, according to a German scientist, it spread beyond the borders of the nomadic area of Central Asia and became the prototype of all European string instruments.
(Turkic means: The Turkic peoples are a collection of ethnic groups from Central, East, North and West Asia as well as parts of Europe and North Africa who speak Turkic languages.)
A legend about Kobyz says that this instrument was created by the great steppe narrator Korkyt-Ata, who lived in the 10th century and that the tool is charged with magical and even mystical properties and sounds like animal voices. In addition, the Kazakh people believed that the spirits of their ancestors spoke to them through this music.
The old outlook and piety towards their instruments and music was constantly preserved in traditional Kazakh society and ensured the highest spiritual level of musical art and a special respectful attitude towards musical instruments. Simple people, for example, did not dare to touch the shaman's Kobyz. It is said: The balance between the courses of life and death on earth can be maintained by playing the Kobyz. 🌼🇩🇪
I think we've spent all day in the fan groups discussing Di's acting skills. He has already been offered a number of roles but has said that until something comes along that interests him more than music it's not an avenue he currently wants to go down but he hasn't ruled it out for the future.
Seeing him act the playboy prince in Be With Me MV was certainly an eye-opener but to truly witness how good he is and how subtle he can be you really need to see the MV for Akkuym. A truly heartbreaking love story in 5 minutes that encapsulates how brilliantly he can portray love, jealousy and heartbreak.
I agree, I sincerely think Dimash could play a very important role in some movie. He’s that talented as far as I’m concerned. Singing, acting dancing modeling ect! 😊

Great reaction! Everyone was shocked by this. His low voice at the beginning was new to us all. Dimash and Igor are a great partnership. I doubt anyone can write songs for Dimash. Igor’s composing for Dimash is amazing. Every performance is epic. Another person mentioned the video My Swan. She used the other name. You will want to give Dimash a hug after seeing it. Dimash may do acting but it will have to be within the medium of music. Music utilizes a different part of the soul. He’s dramatic because with him its a journey and it is imperative he can reach the listener so that they experience the journey with him. Dimash is so skilled and in control he is actually able to be truly free onstage. And he is. He is open and not afraid to bear his soul. Thats not being dramatic so much as just being real. He reveals what the listener generally cannot. Vulnerability.

@@cristyrawks6325 Well.......this one was written by Igor Krutoy especially for Dimash. Krutoy is a well-known Russian composer; he's the piano player here--if you see him at the piano for a Dimash song, he wrote the music.
This was performed as an opener for the International Competition of Young Performers New Wave 2021 in Sochi, Russia. Dimash had been a competitor in the past; he was a judge and also premiered several songs there this year.
So, the song was written by a Russian and premiered in Russia. And Dimash is from Kazakhstan. He did make an international splash performing in the Chinese show The Singer, a competition for professional singers. He was the first foreigner invited and came in second.
But I agree, this song sure is haunting and goose-bump worthy--it's my favorite Dimash piece (so far)

Thank you! I am Over the moon that it was released! The musician you speak of would be my husband, Josh. He's not a pro, does it for fun and stress relief. He has played in local bands, but not in a while. He is a true Artist/Geek by nature and is a Graphic designer at an Ad-agency by day! lol. He inspires me. A very Eclectic and varried music taste, #1 band? RUSH.
