I've just purchased my first jelly roll. I am a yardage person, but this roll was too beautiful to pass up. Now I need to find a pattern to use it, and you have given some fantastic ideas. I LOVE the log cabin with the heart your daughter made.
I’m brand new to quilting things larger than a patchwork bag. I think the table runner would be so fun to make. I have several jelly rolls to play with. Gonna try to make the table runner first. Love your quilts. So pretty. Thank you for sharing.
You are so awesome! Thank you for showing us your quilts that you made with Jelly Rolls. This helps me out a lot. I am a beginner and have not started my first quilt yet. I appreciate the videos and all the info you provide including your favorite books. Now, I can add these to my library. I have recently added your website to my list. Please continue with your videos as this is my only outlet to see you and learn from you. Thank you again for all you do!
Love it that you’re so showing smaller projects. I don’t make quilts as such...just too hot here to have quilts even though they look great on beds. Just not practical as so expensive to make, what with cost of fabrics etc. 🇦🇺🇦🇺
Nice video! Really appreciate the still photos laced in so we can see the full quilts. Thank you. I may have to make that Happy Friday quilt it is so cute.
I have been enjoying your videos since I found them. You have so many beautiful fabrics and quilts. Can’t wait to try some of them..Thanks for sharing it is fun.
Just ordered your HAPPY FRIDAY. Like the ideas of going thru the different bundles of material like the jelly rolls, honey buns, layer cakes etc. with patterns to go with them will be watching for these. Stay Safe till the next time.
New quilter asking earnestly - why do so many quilts have white sashing? It is very prevalent and I’d like to understand if it’s serving a design purpose I’m just not catching onto.
C Baker Lee for me it’s just the calm between all the colour and pattern, for white read cream as well. . It allows you to use every colour against them. You can use other colours, such as a grey but then sometimes that limits the colours that go against it. Sometimes a green for example against a grey looks muddy. A different take is using black or another really dark shade, those too make colours pop but a black or deep marrow quilt for example might not be to everyone’s taste. If you want to just use colour with no stashing at all look at quilters like Kaffe Facett, Tula Pink and Tiny Orchard Quilts. I love their quilts and fabrics, but use them sparingly so they shine like jewels on the quilt because I find an entire quilt of strong colour and pattern too hectic for me. It’s all about personal taste and I think the current fashion is for using whites for relief, but a lot of older quilts are entirely pastels for example or the quilters of Gees Bend have traditionally used all different colours, but a limited palette of 2 or 3 colours to make their quilts with. Make the quilts you want to make. I know I would be unhappy with a quilt with all over strong colours and sometimes use pastels as my “white”, see also low volume patterns. That is however my personal taste, I love vibrant , quilts and have tried making them but sadly they are the ones left unfinished or they undergo a complete redesign to throw in a lot of white. I have just made a cream and blue quilt and the cream softens the blue making the contrast not so stark. It has a mellowness I love, whereas a while ago I did a blue and white and that one looks crisp and clean, again I really like that but they are different looks.
diane shelton Thank you so much! I specially appreciate the cream versus white knowledge. I am so excited to add highly saturated colors, but in limited number, so I didn’t think about the unifying and restful aspects of white. Very helpful - I appreciate how kind and generous the quilting community is.
