Will it help for time predictions to calibrate and save the distance when on the treadmill? Will that keep your predictions for 5K, 10k etc on your watch correctly? Or, is it best to not even calibrate the distance to keep predictions for 5k, 10k when on the treadmill at all?

That's a great question, I'm glad you asked!
The "calibrate and save" will not impact your Garmin analytics (race prediction, VO2 score, etc.), no.
Notice when you use that feature, it adjusts the TOTAL distance, but it does not adjust your splits within the run. It's closer to a "manual entry" in terms of Garmin's ability to decipher the real work you did.
BUT, it is good practice to use this feature regardless - it can help your watch "learn" your treadmill if youre using the same machine every time. And it helps you keep more accurate records for both yourself and for your coach.
Your race predictions will be the most accurate if you do all of your work outdoors. (That's not to say that all outdoor running is actually the most beneficial for you - it's not, necessarily. So don't sacrifice your best fitness and training for the sake of pleasing the algorithm!😜)
