My heart just jumped when you said The Stationery Shop. That’s my all-time favorite book, and not many people talk about it, and I’m so glad someone else enjoys it like I do 🥰!
I'm soooo in agreement about a Man Called Ove. I read it for the first time in 2020 when the reading prompt was "A book about a senior citizen." I did not expect to like it based on its description, but I was doing a book challenge, so I thought "What the hell, why not." So glad I did, and I've read it twice since.
I just have to say one thing: I’m so happy because you posted. Because of your last video I picked up Before The Coffee Gets Cold! Can’t wait to read it when university lets me. Also can’t wait to pick up more books because of this video and have an endless tbr! And feel emotions.
Hey hannah, I was wondering if u would ever post a cover of a song? I know ur a singer and pianist( idk why I think I sound like a stalker saying that) and u posted a cover years ago I think and u honestly have the most calming voice. I'm also currently reading the night circus which I started years ago due to ur recommendation but I didn't care to finish it but I picked it up again and I'm absolutely loving it!!
A Man Called Ove is such an incredible book and I'm glad you gave it a shoutout. Have you read Beartown? I finished that one recently and I'm beginning to think a theme of all Fredrik Backman novels is feeling, even if the intense emotions are different in each book.
Omg hearing you say “lithuanian” 😭😭❤️. This is mood when you live in a small country that some people don’t even know exists. Also I read all 4 Heartstopper volumes like last week and it was so cuuute 💞 can’t wait for the show
I ver very loved the japanese book titled THREE DAYS OF HAPPINESS. It’s matter of sorrow and surprising that most of the people doesn’t even know about this book. Such an underrated Gem
Thank you for another amazing video, Hannah! They always make me so happy :) I would love it if you could do a video with recommendations of books with good sibling relationships (or even just good friendships). There's just something so wholesome about those types of bonds and I love reading about them! Anyway, I hope you have a great day!! ❤
Being lithuanian the history aspect of Ruta Sepetys writing whrenches my heart. We are though about this at school though. Its a very important part of our history. If you have not yet, you must read her book "Between the shades of gray"
I read Astonishing Color of After a couple years ago based on your recommend and I was not disappointed. I've read it several times now, and it's one of my all-time faves! Can't recommend that one enough!
Loved these recommendations so much!!❤❤ I'd watched the anime movie of Five Centimetres Per Second a year ago and ended up crying a river (the ending IS truly heartbreaking😭) but I'd loved the story, so hope to pick up the manga soon. Before The Coffee Gets Cold and Heartstopper are two of my all time favourite books. Can't wait to check out the others too! Also, I had a manga I'd love to recommend to you which also fits the vibe of this video - Banana Fish. It's overall storyline is quite tragic (won't give any spoilers😅) but the relationship b/w the two main characters gives you all the feels. The story has quite a few trigger warnings, but it's one of the most heartwarming (and heartbreaking) stories I've ever read/watched (it has an anime too!). I hope you'll love it too🤍 Sorry for the long comment, and thanks for posting so often. This video made my day💓💓
hannah! if you haven't read anxious people by frederick backman yet, PLEASE READ IT! its an all time favorite book of mine. the characters are all so charmingly weird, and it's got the most unique plot line! like you said about a man called ove, it does a great job balancing very heavy themes with the best humor. and there are some fun plot twists too!
I literally started reading Maybe in another life TODAY!! I’m like 1/2way through and can’t wait to see how it ends. The only reason I stoped was bc I have to go to bed bc I work tomorrow lol. When you started talking about it I skipped that section and will come back after I finish it bc I don’t wanna ANY spoilers (bc I am loving it so far)
How is it that you know what I need right now? Literally yesterday I was like "I want a book that makes me feel something" and then today you upload this video. Thank you! I really needed
I have just read my first Ruta Sepetys book, her latest: I must betray you. This shook me. It is about life in communist Romania and the revolution in 1989 from the point of view of a 17 year old boy. I loved it so much and it really moved me. By the end I just had to let it out and I cried for at least 10 minutes ( even if the ending wasn't particularly sad). I highly recommend it !
A book that very surprisingly made me feel (a LOT) is A School for Good Mothers by Jessamine Chan. it's not the kind of book i'd typically read, i mainly picked it up because the cover was really pretty and it was on sale, but oh my god this book made me feel so many strong emotions. i felt so angry, and frustrated (for the character, not the book itself lol), and so SAD (but also happy at times). i went into the book not expecting much, and finished the book completely HEARTBROKEN and in awe. Its the only book that left me genuinely sobbing- I've cried many times reading books but i think this book is the one i cried the hardest. I was reading the last two chapters and I was so surprised that I was even tearing up let alone sobbing at every paragraph (every time i stopped crying there was a new part that made me cry lol) it takes place in the modern world but has dystopian elements, it's about a mother who has a "very bad day" and has to go to this school where they teach "bad mothers" to be "good", and (loosely) gives me the handmaid tale/detroit become human/black mirror vibes (this probably wont make sense until you read it) the main character (and i believe the author) is Chinese, and also has some bits about growing up with immigrant parents/ being asian ! (ps i would check for tw's if needed)
oh gosh i cannot wait to get my hands on the stationery shop... my grandma was growing up and falling in love at just around that time in Iran so i feel like it's going to hit me extra hard ohh i cant wait
I read Before the Coffee Gets Cold and it is so emotional, and made me cry in the end. And now I am here again to stock more books for next year because finally I get over my reading slump after reading BTCGC. AND I AM OBSESSED WITH DAISY JONES AND THE SIX. I don't regret reading it until now because the mini series will be in March 3 and I am excited for it but putting my hopes down because I don't want to disappoint myself (if in case). I'm definitely adding 'Salt in the Sea' to my wishlist. I've never even heard of this tragedy. ----- I recently bought 'Before the Coffee' after seeing Jesse talk about over on jessethereader. I just finished a lovely, heart-wrenching historical fiction called The Bronze Horseman. It was so good. I never hear anyone talk about it. I picked up it thrifting. It’s about a couple falling in love during WWII in Russia and so much goes on especially with the girl’s family whose sister loves the same man. I think you would love this book. I couldn’t put this book down.
Big thanks to you Hannah, you have brought me back on track to reading, currently Iam reading the Starless Sea(iam LOVING IT!!) , and i have also ordered, A man Called Ove..😇

4:28 The reason that you don't learn about the Wilhelm Gustloff-disaster is actually as simple as it is sad: It doesn't matter. It takes place in thwe last few months of WWII, it's a German ship, that sank by Sovjet-doing and, how tragic it is, it isn't a significant event in the grand scale of things. It had little to no impact on the war itself, so why mention it at school if youy have a lot of history to get through anyway?
I just recently completed a series entitled Empress Orchid, and The Last Empress by Anchee Min. Both very good books that made me sad and I cried a lot reading the sequel, The Last Empress. It will definitely tug at your heart strings.
I recently read Maybe in Another Life and I loved it. I read Daisy Jones & the Six earlier this year, and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo a couple years ago, but at the moment, Maybe in Another Life is my fave. But when I was reading Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones I kept thinking to myself 'this is good. but I know I'll enjoy it so much more on a reread.' So it'll be interesting to see where they land when I DO finally reread them, because I love Maybe in Another Life as much as I'm ever going to, so one of them may top it. And even though I haven't read One True Loves, I can't wait for the movie.
Your videos are what got me so into reading, I haven’t watched all of them so sorry if you’ve mentioned it before. Have your ever read the manga series a silent voice? The manga and the anime are both amazing!
The most I've ever cried reading a book was with White Fang by Jack London. I was full on sobbing. Will definitely check out the books you have mentioned!
I lost my mother this year from suicide (I'm the same age as you so it was very shocking) - thank you so much for recommending the astonishing color of after. It sounds like exactly what I need now and very relatable - I didn't know there was a book that would do that
ok but my teacher, who I'm really close to, just said she's reading "A man called Ove" Like I never heard of that book before and you recommend it! I should really pick this up!
I was cleaning and looking for videos to listen to so I put on ur sad books video and then this one. Both times I heard “ A man named Hoova “ I was like wtf kinda name is that so this time I heard it I checked my phone and I saw it was a man named Ove!!! I can’t believe I didn’t recognize the book based on description either time… I’ve both read it and watched the movie adaptation SO many times and I just feel ashamed I didn’t even consider it might being that one 😭😭 but as I said, there’s a movie about it too and it’s sooo good, got many Oscar nominations and now when googling it I saw that Tom Hanks is in it for some reason lols but yeah you should totally watch it!!! I’m just not used to English speaking people saying Swedish/Scandinavian names so that’s probs why I didn’t understand it was that book 💔 broke my heart a little
you should read this book called the reader, it was adapted into a movie, but its really heart wrenching and makes you FEEl. bonus one of the main characters is named hanna!
It's coming up on the one year anniversary of my mother's death. The Astonishing Color of After is absolutely the book I needed I didn't know I needed. Going to purchase ASAP. Thanks for the recommendation.
