I’m here ALL DAY for the “that’s what she said” comments 😂 it’s like a bat signal and I’m immediately drawn to it no matter what. Might have a little bit to do with the fact that my brain never developed past age 12 but still… Oh and I used to live in Charlotte Park when my wife and I first moved in together 33 years ago and the traffic sucked back then and it’s off the chart shitty today - God bless you for embarking on that trip… 😂

You people who live in the USA are very lucky to have so many "pawn shops" all over the place for cheap bargains.
Here in Europe you never see this kind of stuff - except (maybe) on certain weekends at flea markets, but they dont have guitars on sale.

In france we have a lot of pawn shop in big cities, but they’re not selling gibsons for 2.7k $…. The pricing of this shop were very high imo, 180 $ for a shitty valvestate or 180$ for a no name acoustic guitar is VERY expensive

Cool vid, Marty - as always. And man what a SWEEEET haul you got there, for $90 Scooters. Even for $100 with the tax. That's awesome. The mic sounds really good, and it's a cool piece of gear. And hey - nobody could go wrong with that Epi LP Special II for $70. Wow. Simple. Durable. And flat out rockin.' Man that thing sounds killer coming through that Freidman! This was fun, and a great start to my Fathers Day! Hope you have a good one too.

Marty, Nice score.. I frequent pawn shops in my travel for work and have found some gems for sure.. Fender 68 Custom Twin needed tubes for $ 350.. a Les Paul LPJ with a JB in the bridge and 50'sd wiring for $ 200.. but i have a satin black Epiphone Special with wrap tail and 2 P90's, the Epi P90's are hot.. I plugged the tuner screw holes and bought some stew mac no-name kidney bean mini tuners and shimmed the neck and did a quick fret level.. and she has action at 1.0mm.. unreal how she plays..

Pawn shops are great! I have found some nice, budget price guitars at a couple pawn shops in my area that I wouldn't think twice about using them for a modding project guitar. They are usually around $100-$120 or less. Much cheaper than paying full price for a new epiphone or squire or whatever to upgrade stuff on. Good times.

Awright, gotta tell my true lie.
A little over two years ago I stepped into my local small-town music shop just as they were setting up a a nice, clean barely used looking 66 Fender Bassman Silverface head and its matching cab.
I asked how much, and the guy said they just put it up on Reverb and the price is $1,000.
I said $800 cash dollars in the time it takes to get it out of my wallet?
The 3 employees were excited. It was Friday at almost closing. I guarantee $800 _total_ hadn't come through that door in the past 6 days. They were eating steak tonight.
The price was the only thing mentioned about the amp the whole time. It may be full of beer cans.
Got it home, did an inspection.
*Untouched* Like digging up a pristine tomb of a Pharaoh. It had a service sticker from the same music store dated 1972. It had never left town. AB165 Circuit. Not my fav, but I can fix that. Caps were all original, none leaking visually. Tubes were all matching 60's-70's era RCA.
I bypassed the death cap, and installed a 3 wire power cord. Fired it up, keeping my eyes open Awesome. Sublime. A moment that will always seem a soft-focus dream like memory. Those old paper n oil filter caps seemed in ok shape. Dabbled and fiddled a bit. Turned it off, put a cover over it and currently awaits a complete up and down with a couple mods, hybrid circuit, and full recap.
    Just 1 more false fact.
That store was owned by a guy named Larry Welborn. His brother ran it, though.
The Larry Welborn that just happened to be I think the last remaining original Cricket. As in Buddy Holly and the Crickets. I shit you not. He was Buddy's bass player from their Lubbock high school band, the Western and Bop Band. That's Larry on _"That'll be the Day."_ But Larry was replaced by Don Guess early on, so that's the only credit I'm aware of.
Larry passed away a little over 2 years ago.
And I've got the last Crickets last amp.
How's that for a bullshit story that happens to be completely true?

For many years, collectors have teamed with pawn shops , so that they are called when anything good comes in, so they have first dibs. I was told this by several shops 35 years ago. To this day, I have yet to find anything good at any pawn shop. I did find a 25 year old Fender squire standard series Strat in great Condition at an antique shop. It could be poplar instead of mahogany

    • @Ranch5150SkinWalker
      @Ranch5150SkinWalker  7 місяців тому

Hard to say. Some were made of popular, some mahogany, laminate press board, maple. It varies. I need to take the plates off and carefully inspect the inside. They spray the cavities with dark black paint so I need to look for ripples etc. it may be laminate!

@@Ranch5150SkinWalker it really doesn't matter but if you are super curious, you can remove the neck and that may reveal the wood, anyway, enjoy the guitar!

  • @ronedee

Pawnshops pay shit for gear. Any music store would beat any pawnbrokers offer. Nashville is probably an exception because of the music scene...but there are only 3 reasons a piece of gear ends up at a pawnshop: 1. it's stolen. 2. it's a piece of shit or broken. 3. the player is a drug addict.
