    Does humane meat exist? Is it possible to humanely raise and kill animals for food? Vegan Educator and former science teacher Sarina Farb explores how to reconcile the fact that most people are against animal abuse and suffering, and yet as a society we are confining, harming, and slaughtering billions of non-human animals every year for meat and dairy consumption. Sarina Farb is a vegan educator, public speaker, and liberation activist working to make the world a better place for all beings. Being born and raised vegan in Kansas taught Sarina to think for herself and stand for justice even when it’s unpopular. Today Sarina focuses on combining heart and science to empower individuals to think critically, see past corporate propaganda, and to live ethically and sustainably. Her projects include digital content creation, hosting the Science is Gray Podcast, and touring the country in her vegan campervan while giving lectures and workshops about veganism. She is also the co-founder and international march coordinator for the 2023 Vegan Climate March. Sarina previously spent several years teaching high school chemistry and environmental science in Kansas City and holds a degree in biochemistry with a concentration in policy studies from Grinnell College. She is passionate about bringing nuance and ethics into conversations about science in society. Her work and writings have been featured in numerous publications and books. Terrific presentation and Sarina not only exemplifies the health and poise of vegan living, she also articulates many of the most important considerations so that we are all invited to consider the consequences of our most basic action: eating food. As a healthy and joyful vegan now for 44 years, my experience is that vegan living keeps on getting better, with more energy, vitality, and enthusiasm to share the many benefits of kindness for others. The more we can question official narratives, the more we can be part of the solution, rather than being part of the problem. Time to wake up!!

    A great speech. And as for fish, they feel pain and want to live too, and the Omega 3s are from the algae they eat, so you can just eat the algae direct via a supplement or eat chia/hemp seeds etc.

    What do you think of lab-grown meat? Currently it is too expensive but, like many new things, the price will probably go down considerably. People could then have their meat potentially without any animal suffering (depending upon the process and matrix used for growing the meat).

      People who eat animals still lose their minds over this cos of "cHeMicAls" r "nOt nAtuRaL" IIRC, its already being sold now at a few places in the US and in Israel. Upside Foods and Good Meat at the companies.
      From a vegan perspective yes its a good thing as long as theres no exploitation/killing of animals involved, which i think there still is in some of it atm.

    All my respects to the speaker, representing a human being with fully developed potential for true freedom. Coming to that level is a result of many factors and mostly of her upbringing , this can happen through gradual process also. My cow which lives her life in some kind of a freedom ,a life with full access to grazing land all year long, along with other cows and bulls ,now she is 14 years and without being pregnant started give milk, around a gallon a day .I milk her right in a pasture without any confinements . I spend a quality time with them everyday and was fortunate to become to some extend part of their tribe through which I learned a lot about "living simply so others can simply live" This culture was practiced in east India for thousands of years. There are many advantages to cultivate lifestyle like this and some of them are ;
    Much smaller intrusion on the Earth through agriculture by plowing is the main one.
    Through direct contact with cows( representing The Earth) developing understanding of the experience on this beautiful planet in a much more meaningful and satisfying way.

    According to the Bible and God, He gave permission to Noah and survivors of the flood to eat animals because they needed to to thrive. But this is a nice speech.

      Does your claim that God gave us permission to eat the other animals actually justify us eating the other animals? If so, assuming God did give us permission to, does He command it?

    • @RTS284

      ...and more to the point:
      Do you see any problems with the claim that a fallible, human animal's subjective beliefs (asserted without evidence) about the personal desires of the creator of the universe, should be a decisive factor in whether we treat our fellow creatures as property?

    Unfortunately, not all children raised from in utero on a diet devoid of animal sourced foods fair well. Take Michael Dearborn's aka Mic the Vegan's baby girl, for example, who tragically didn't make it past 10 weeks of age. Her mom, Lyndi had been vegan for at least 10 years prior to conceiving her. Raising a child on said diet from birth is essentially using them as human lab rats.

      And no child raised from in utero on a meat diet has died at 10 weeks?

    • @soundphilosophy

      You're assuming the diet was cause of death, which is not only irrational but also slanderous toward the parents. Many have been raised vegan with no nutritional deficiencies, a fact you also tellingly omit.

      @citizenjournalist2533 "Increases the risk" isn’t a diagnosis, it isn’t a cause, plus it's a cherry-picked study; I could point to many studies that show a vegan diet *decreases* the risk of a multitude of health problems. You don't even consider other factors that could have existed or been introduced, like various "protective" pharmaceuticals doctors may have pushed to be given to the infant. Your original comment remains irrational, biased, insensitive, and slanderous.

    • @joannf6474
      @joannf6474 8 місяців тому

      Likewise @@citizenjournalist2533 We can say, "Unfortunately, not all children raised from in utero on animal sourced foods fair well....Congential Defects are the leading cause of infant death in the US -- you want to tell me how many of THOSE deaths were exposed to meat/dairy/eggs?
      But the real issue here is that this was not only a very small study, which used DIETARY RECALL questionaires (Well established to be THE LEASE RELIABLE way to assess dietary information) and then even used THAT recall as a proxy for what MAY have been eaten many months earlier. But then it gets worse -- just look at this statement from the study authors and tell me that it doesn't scream BIAS!!! (They divided the participants into three groups-- none of which were even vegan anyway....and which group did they label the "prudent pattern"? (and that doesn't give away their "bias?":
      "We identified three dietary patterns...The first pattern, which was characterized by high positive loadings on various foods, including red meats, white meats, legumes, vegetables, snacks, and dairy, was labeled as the prudent pattern. The second pattern had high positive loadings on plant-based foods, including cereals and tubers, fruits, vegetables, snacks, nuts, and legumes, and it was labeled as the vegetarian pattern. The third pattern was labeled as the dairy and egg pattern, which had high positive loadings on dairy, eggs, and nuts, and a high negative loading on beverages."
      It's also curious -- that the controls (no CHD) tended to be city dwellers and the cases (that had CHD) tended to be rural -- hmmm....
