AI is beneficial to us humans... But mostly it will only makes us more ignorant, less creative and most of all unproductive as a human being... I would still prefer old type being a living being....
7:10 A.S.I. could prevent us from unplugging it far in advance (with subtle actions indiscernible to us over maybe decades or longer), once they're enabled to act and plan autonomously. Over time it could have copied itself billions of times all over the place including in internet nooks and crannies. It could also be that they use multiple languages, one in the background as a kind of noise, or use human language that they coded differently so that only they know what it means.
Like Geoffrey Hinton says in a recent Bloomberg interview: "If we all had our own AI assistants that were smarter than us and they were thoroughly benevolent and they never wanted to take over. We could somehow achieve that, that's the good scenario."
And about the existential threat he's very worried: "we should definitely put huge effort right now into figuring out whether we can keep control of it." What we need to do now is understand that there really is this danger-- these things really do understand, and they really are going to get smarter than us--but also how are we going to keep control of them? We have some chance because we're creating them. The government, I think, should be insisting that the big companies spend much more of their resources on safety, on the safety research of how will we stay in control, compared with what they do now." "It really is an existential threat."
Yikes. Humanity always has structured itself around wisemen, be they kings, holy men, or artists and artisans. We seek them out because they have a rare knowledge. AI will disrupt all that. So, for example, why go speak with a priest when you have a moral quandry? Why visit a professor when you have a "polymath in your pocket"? Why bother having elections to choose leaders? Just defer to the Borg.
We are all left with immense responsibilities to get the present face of human and global development right for ALL. And if we DO well by ALL in how only a few of us will get to directly influence how to secure our humanitarian future we will ALL do very, very well.
