Very nice! The steering wheel and shifter on my 18 SS 1LE is as matted down as yours was. This is the first car I've had with alcantara, and I figured that it was done and non-fixable once it got matted down. I'm ordering some of this on Amazon to give it a shot
You’ll be good man. Sonax works. A soft brush is recommended but you can do it with a towel in a pinch. Just follow instructions and you’ll be good. Thanks for watching. I appreciate the support 🤘
Someone once told me that you should only ever touch a suede steering wheel with gloved hands. Otherwise, it will end up looking dull and tacky rather quickly, because all that dirt, oils and dead cells from your skin will get clogged up in it. Guess the same applies to Alcantara, even though it's "just" a form of synthetic suede.
Been doing this once a month or so and it kinda works, the steering wheel remains in pretty good condition (she gets some pretty heavy daily use), although this is the first and last alcantara steering wheel I will ever own, leather is so much easier to maintain
Is this stuff going to screw up my GTi alcantara steering wheel? I keep a soft nylon brush in my glove box and just give it a good brush whenever, like when I'm sat waiting for my girlfriend for example
I make no promises but, Sonax is designed for alcantara. I never had an issue with it damaging any of my alcantara in the ZL1. The soft brush is most important in my opinion. Stiff brush can damage the alcantara.
@@FloridaManTV well I've ordered some so will give it a try, going to thoroughly brush before applying though, which is an extra step to your method (softish nylon brush, but I get where you're coming from)
A microfiber towel and a light hand soap dilution works for me....gets everything mouse furry again in minutes......I like the tack when it builds on the wheel.....but I never let it get too far
@@FloridaManTV I'm running around the channel looking around. I like seeing cars that stick out, my truck sticks out. I like seeing others like me lol 🤣
Didn’t destroy anything, light pressure and a soft toothbrush. Alcantara is soft as day one. But, as soon as you wanna come over and clean it for me, you can show me how you do it. 😉
@@FloridaManTV you can see the alcanarara "balls" formed after the cleaning, this happens due to aggressivness in the incorect cleaning process and applying too much pressure
the instructions are actually not clear. It states rub in with a "brush, moist sponge or cloth". Then let sit for 5-10 min. Rub again with a "damp sponge or cloth" and let dry afterward. It actually doesn't specify for a damp cloth, but in its wording it could mean damp cloth.
I don’t see why not. But I am not a Sonax employee so can’t say for sure. My Alcântara is black and I haven’t had any color fade. I would do a small test spot and let dry overnight in an unseen area just to be sure first. 👍🏻
Laundry detergent, not dish soap. Dish soap will leave a residue on any fabric, but a bit of laundry detergent and hot water is all you need to clean Alcantara. Remember, Alcantara is entirely synthetic being a mix of polyester and polyurethane and is pretty sturdy. These Alcantara specific cleaners are way overpriced as they are mostly water with a bit of detergent and a foaming agent. The most important thing is not to use any rough cleaners on it and not to be too rough with it or especially oversaturate it.

Yes. It gets sticky and matted down quickly. Same with the armrest and shifter.
It's not a big worry if you brush it out with some consistency. No liquid needed and it won't matt down as easy.
@J S It doesn't slip like leather but I agree with you. Not a great material for an actual day-to-day use.
Just did this to my ss 1le. Wow worked perfect. Steering wheel looks brand new. Thanks.
Yessir! It’s good stuff.

Agreed. Alcantara is cool for an exotic you drive once a month after donning your matching driving gloves. For a DD, it doesn’t make much sense.
Thanks for the review. Useful!
Glad it helped. Thanks for watching!

More I think about it, they just shouldn’t have alcantara on a steering wheel. 🤣🤣
Saw your car the other day when I was running around for work. Pretty cool wrap.
Thanks! Hope you enjoy the channel too.

We are a crazy rare breed aren’t we? Not many do crazy wraps and such. 😁
this is NOT how you do it, you are too aggressive and you destroyed your alcantara.

They fluff back up when you dry brush it. 👍🏻
@@petkokrushev3840 maybe expalin the "right" way instead of shitting on the guy? but complaining is easier.
Love your user name! 🤘

I just brush it in, wipe with a damp cloth, reapply, brush in, wipe with damp cloth/rag. And let it dry. Then fluff it with a dry brush.
Can you use this product on color seats ? I have light pink bucket seats that need a lil cleaning

@@FloridaManTV okay Thank you so much !
Had mineral oil spill on my red alancentara seats. Nothing got it out but sonax
Awesome to hear! Glad you got it out! 🤘
@@FloridaManTV yea I ain’t even have 500 miles on the car when it happened smh.
😞
Toothbrush trick saved me,
Good to hear! Handy little soft brushes to have around. 😁
Did it 100% incorrectly🤣 ur steering wheel still looks so dirty
Great video!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it 🤘
This is not Alcantara, now manufatures use more and more Microfiber to replace real alcantara.
Don’t know if it is real or not, but Sonax cleans it. 🤘
Lol I literally just saw you in daphne Alabama
Yup. Was at Biloxi C&C. 😁
alcatara is overhyped a lot
Yeah. I could do without it for sure. A lot of maintenance.
Dish soap will do a better job
Never use dish soap anywhere on your car. Period.
Never in a million years would you use dish soap. If you do not know anything, sure.... use dish soap
