Dave, For me, solo camping is like going camping with a person you don't know well. After a few days, you get to know that person and that person then becomes you, and you're truly solo and at peace. Thanks from Saginaw, Minnesota! 🌲🌲🌲
This is why I love this guy. While those questions seem to have been formulated by folks who are "praticing bushcraft" Dave answers them in a way that shows he lives a lifestyle rather than a hobby. His answers are practical for everyday use whether in the bush or in town. The best knife is the one you have. The best fire starter is the one that works to save your life. It's all about the life you live in the outdoors. It's not about the "right" equipment or the "right" technique. It's all about the right experience for you. My favorite videos from Dave are those that talk about common sense topics, his outlook on the outdoors, and the straight talk about life and perspective in general. This thing called bushcraft that everyone one is jumping onto has been around for as long as man has been outside. We in the modern world have been removed from it for the most part. Those of us who feel the need to be outside in a more nateral setting usually don't give a hoot about the fanciest knife, the best ax or the right tarp. We care about the experience of the outdoors and all it teaches us. Thank you, Dave, for your perspective.
Really like your perspective and how you said you really didn’t care for rules. I always appreciate how you go with basic, good working tools and equipment and don’t ramble on about the “right” way to do things. It’s refreshing to see you pull out a Bic lighter and a knife that doesn’t cost $300. Great answers to interesting questions. Always look forward to your videos.
Ok, I’m a nurse who helps take care of my elderly mother. I have woods around my home but that about ends my bush life. Hahaha Never started a fire excepted to over cook popcorn in the microwave, but….I LOVE BUSHRADICAL!! Also GIRL IN THE WOODS! Could listen and watch you two for hrs. You are so interesting and I’m going to carry a bic everywhere now! Love your show!
I just started watching your channel a few days ago and I find that it's really easy to get wrapped up in your story telling. Excellent videos. You have a gift for painting a picture with words. I smoked for 38 years, but quit 14 years ago. I still carry a Bic lighter every day. My other everyday carry is a Leatherman Wave. Thanks for sharing with us.
Great answers to those 8 questions. I see why you and Brooke are together. You really compliment each other and are a great team for your family unit. Stay radical. 😺💞
I have a lot of folks to thank for my outdoors skills. But Horace Kephart said it best when he observed that "In the school of the woods, there is no graduation day." We can always learn something more. That's what campfires are for ... good coffee and great conversations! BTW ... loved hearing the spring peepers in the background. One of my favorite Michigan memories! Kihelakayo, my friend! God Bless :)
Your honesty when answering is a breath of fresh air David, so many people telling you that you DEFINITELY NEED this or DEFINITELY NEED that...when all you really need is a bit of twine, a Bic lighter and a pocket knife.
I love your perspective, Dave! And your honesty...truly refreshing. Have a great time in Alaska. I've backpacked on five continents but have not been to Alaska...that's gotta change! Now that I'm totally retired a trip is coming soon. I hope to meet you and Brooke someday...you two rock!
Thanks for the challenge tag Dave! I've already been putting quite a bit of thought into my upcoming answers! Lots of good stuff to think about, that's for sure...
My every day carry stuff consists of a pocket knife, Leatherman, Bic lighter, small ferro rod with attached p-38 can opener, small pocket sized flashlight, and for urban survival I carry cash and car keys. I use every one of these items on a regular basis. Also, same as you, I am already pretty much bugged out. Loved hearing those happy spring peepers for the music background to your video, and the coyotes too. Thanks, it was fun.
I like camping with a group, but for the last 8 years I have been solo camping in the Bush with my dog. I am a paddler and painter and I find most people don't enjoy true wilderness without technology. I am just fine "alone" LOL
My best memories camping are the ones that test your abilities. Hiked around Beaver Island in Lake Michigan. Got to 24 below that night. I'll never forget that trip. My favorite knife is a steak knife. Enjoy your videos. Northern Michigan is the best
I quite enjoyed watching this one, it was fun watching you formulate your thoughts on the fly and then give honest answers that let us learn more about you and how you think. Thanks.
Thanks Bob, It was lots of fun to have a format given to you....Having questions to answer and seeing how other people answer the questions is pretty interesting.
Interesting choices of equipment. Having dumped my canoe on the Yukon’s Pelly River early spring just after the ice went out (yeah I know not too bright but a buddy from Virginia was up visiting) I’m certain my heavy wool sweater and good old Zippo lighter saved my butt. Love them both
Great video, I'm new to proper bushcraft but growing up running around the woods and setting up camp where we got too tired to keep going taught me alot about wilderness survival. My dad taught us how to read a compass and map and build a fire, everything else we learned the hard way. Never left home without a lighter ever since, it can save your life. Also never left home without a basic tool set in the truck. Nothing like replacing a rod bearing in a ditch with a piece of my leather belt.
Im a stranger to proper "bushcraft" myself! but, the tool things is totally correct. My first trip to AK i had to tear apart my one barrel carb in the hood of my old f150 on the side of the road in the yukon territory in the snow.....Not a rod bearing but also not the best place to fix a carb. I bet we would have a great time talking about stuff like that. You know you're in trouble when your pulling an oil pan in a ditch !!! I blew a head gasket in Edmonton Canada last spring......fixed it with a can of Rislone head gasket sealer......it held for a whole year.....I dumped in another can last week.....so far so good.
😂 At least you fixed it right. That car is why I'm a mechanic now. It was my running experiment, I threw a rod on it the first week I had it and swapped the engine with a 63 Ford Fairlane 260. I even dirt road raced it. I miss that pile of junk.
Good answers to thoz questions Dave! I like that u carry a Big lighter... I do too! Once someone asked me why I carry it when I don't smoke... I told them it's always good to have fire.
@@Bushradical I think the Bic lighter is actually a litmus test to determine who is pretentious and who is real. People I know who actually live remote always seem to have lighters. I can't actually think of anyone who carries a ferro rod as EDC. I've always got a pocket knife, an LED flashlight and a Bic lighter in my pocket.
I heard about that smelting thing when I arrived in Duluth back in 83. My HS buddy (from Miami) studying at UM Duluth told me its where people sit in yard chairs with pole nets and drink too many refreshments. Unfortunately, some of them fall into the water, and perish... That is uncool. Au Geesh. God Bless. Essential worker here in Miami. Love your video uploads. We are living in trying times. Wear a mask peoples!
Thank you bro. Those questions I think I'll pass them on to my Facebook page and ask my audience what they would do and what they would use. Thank you, Dave.
Great video Dave and good answers. Other than the best camp question I'd have to say your answers were pretty solid, well thought out and informative. Thanks for sharing
Dave, I never really had a strong male role model in my life to teach me how to do mechanical stuff..here I am at fifty watching you and Brooke's videos just hungering to learn. I feel as If am playing catch-up!! Thanks for the videos!
Thanks CW! I think what everyone needs in life is an avenue to apply what they learn or they will never learn anything.....example....I used to get roped into helping my dad work on cars_hated every minute- until I bought my first vehicle. Then I had a reason of my own to understand what we had been doing and it all made sense and became interesting ( and easy to retain and use) .....my advice is .....if you want to learn how to fix cars, then buy a beater with 250k on it. It you want to learn how to build , then build a cabin....Everyone can do it if they try and you will learn SOOOO much. same goes with most things in life ...dive in head first with a reason and you can learn almost anything......but you need to have a reason, or an avenue to apply what you learn.
Christopher Watrous You are just learning things in a different order than Dave. Life gave you different priorities. There are probably things you know that Dave hasn’t gotten around to yet. Life is funny that way.
Christopher Watrous Don’t feel badly, I’m 70 and loving these bushcraft videos. I enjoy Dave’s attitude, love, humor, humility. Sort of like the male influence i never had. Dave has fun like we did when we were kids.
I love how many comments that you respond to! I can't think of any other creator with over 1 million subscribers that answers any! Unless you give them money! I'll be a subscriber for life!
I thought it was cool that you brought up the lighter. I've been watching a lot of videos and people stress Ferro rods, and i'm all, Why not just grab a match or lighter? Great video, thanks for the info.
Yes I did hear the coyotes. Just about the time you said something about them. Another great informative video. Thanks for your answers. I really enjoy watching your channel. It reminds me about the times I used to go camping and fishing a lot. Not near as primitive as yours. Thanks
Great video! Really respect your input! I love that you carry a lighter. Makes me feel better. I watch Brooke on her channel and she is such an expert with the rod and steel. I keep practicing but the lighter is a no fail fire starter. Love both you guys!
Thanks Chris. I feel like there is an expectation of some viewers...that everything needs to be done the hard way...LOL. I like using a lighter for sure.
Some brilliant answers to my 8 questions Dave, especially questions 4,5,6 & 7. It is awesome seeing how others answer these questions and just how many have done VR's I look forward to Brooke's VR. Atb Carlos
Interesting point of view on the questions. I've been following you (and Brooke) for the las few months and I've been going back and watching some of you early videos. Great content. If you ever want to talk knives, let me know. I have one of the lardest collections around...just don't ask how many, I don't want my wife to find out LOL. Anyway, thanks again for your videos and maybe we'll meet at Clyde's for a cheeseburger one day. 👍👍
Howdy David Thanks for taking part in the tag...great answers, loved the coyotes,...i always...ALWAYS, carry a bic lighter and i always recommend others do so as well. Also thanks for the good mention amigo...i agree that having an aptitude towards solving problems in general, can play a large part in ones ability to deal with the possible stresses and challenges encountered in a wilderness environment. Well done and thanks again...stay radical my friend...woods
I plan on watching some of the other people tagged and see their responses.....I bet its pretty awesome to hear all the different answers. Anyone I should check out first?
It sure is David....they are all great folks...but if" ScoutForLife" does his eight it should be extra interesting...he's a great guy with an awesome channel...very humble...atb...woods
Never forget the TP!!! LOL. I don't do the bug out bag either, I'm with you on camping alone. Often I go camping because of other outdoor activities fishing, hunting mushrooms, ginseng, deer and hiking.
I live down in Grand Haven. My dad started taking me and my brother's up to Baldwin when we were little kids. My dad is gone now but my brothers and I still spend a lot of time up there. I have some incredible memories from up there.
Id rather camp with friends/family but i usually end up going alone since i cant seem to get anybody else to go haha i do choose campgrounds as ive never done a solo camp completely in the wild yet 😮😮 but NEED to...SOON! (Brooke is definitely giving me the courage to do it)
I agree about your attitude on appitude. Growing up on a commercial fishing boat really feed this as well as just being hands on. Thing people make a big deal out of as being bushcraft is just camping to me. It drives me crazy to have bushcraft as being you can only do it certain way. Thanks You go in to be in Alaska this summer.?
I'm limping my 98' Ford escort up the highway in a week! I feel the same way about the whole thing. When I use the word "Bushcraft" I do so, so that people will know what context I'm speaking in.......but i personally don't use the word much outside of youtube. When people talk about the "proper way" to perform a "bushcraft skill" I just want to laugh.
Bushradical I maybe be heading up at the end of June, but I'll be West of Bethal on the coast. Not sure if your be around Anchorage first part of July when I'll be passing through back state side.
Great video Dave thank you for sharing your preferences and some common sense. Also Thank you for also pointing out some other channels for responses. I have two questions that aren’t so much about wood lore and I won’t be upset if you don’t answer, how hard was it for you to start your UA-cam channel? And do you have any advice for someone who’s considering starting a channel? I’m just asking for a friend (yeah right lol).
Enjoyed that video very much. It gave me some ideas in terms of survival preparedness and also for turning old butter knives (of which I have plenty) into knives, (Like I need another one). I like your outlook on things. I am a sub and signed up for notifications a while ago.. Keep up the good work. Thanks Dave. Florida, USA.
On the subject of fire, I got stranded in the woods at night with a friend with COPD and no inhalers. We were hypothermic and it had been alternately sleeting and snowing all day so everything was wet or damp. Even though he is a smoker and had a lighter it was impossible to get the fire to light and stay lit. I carry in a huge zip lock bag in all of my packs a DOT issued 30 minute road flare. That is my guaranteed fire in emergencies.
great video. those are good questions and as always im curious how others folks do things. thought it was interesting what ya said about camping being a social activity. i mostly camp alone for the last 15 years. seems like nobody has time for it or if they do they prefer a busy public campground and i just cant stomach that. im taking a break from the internet for a few months so ill catch up with you and girl in the woods on down the road. hope yall have a great summer. take care
Thanks Timberdrifter! Hope you have a great summer. I do like camping alone to an extent, but I really like to talk and visit, so I usually have a better time with friends. I went out for an overnight last week with my brother. we had a great time.
(1) My favorite campsite was at a place called Brown's Lake just outside of my town of Saint John NB, it was lovely spot the loons were noisy on the water and the forest around was old growth, game was plentiful there and fishing was okay. I had a 20' round tarp tipi set up and loved the camp because I could feel close to Mother Nature; it looked like a cattle herd was wandering the place but it was bear poop, and deer and moose had left their trails as well, bobcat and coyote were common there as were the wretched wild-dogs. I loved relaxing at the lake having fiddle heads, eels and fish for meals, a person could live like an Indian there.
(2) I camped by myself a lot it gave me time to find myself, when I did have a group there they loved the spot but made a horrible mistake of calling back to wild dogs which drew the pack right to the campsite (Thankfully the dogs realized a group of people were there and receded away again (no one howled back to the dogs again ;)
Nice to see someone not naming a knife as the most important kit, I think a source of fire is most important too. Subscribed all the way from Scotland 🏴
Wow, Dave you put so much in to this one, don't ever now what to awnser. One thing,I do now,you are a Michigan man for sure,I can tell.maybe when I do get to the point of getting out there on the tub. I could answer them .but think you did a great job . And yes could see you just fine.was getting dark but ok for lighting.. have a good night cheers ,and keepim sharp and keep it burnin.;).
Ok let's clear something up!!! When you talk to that very patient Colley what I hear is Daisy. When the lovely and talented Girl In The Woods talks to her I hear Maisey!! So what is it???? Good questions and great answers!!
Thats a good question. All of our pets have several names...Daisy was originally named Maisey. Ive been calling her Daisy for years. We have a 15 lb cat named "Angry" his other names are Jessie, fatso, tubby, etc, etc.
I'm seeing a pattern with you here...I like it. I like what you said in the ax video and the roll on paint video..."Not being radical as the world is radical, now that's radical. Your views remind me of this verse... Heb 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Hey there Dave that is a really good segment - thks for your time & info ya shared there - good job on those questions ; ya got bub - covered many skills - being real is everything - thkx for sharing your time & info > you rock it Dave - take care & have a blessed day - spot on bud ; chow for now - kirk out for now
Enjoyed the video Dave. I sure hope it didn't take you 12 hours to find your way out of the spot you were in when it got dark on you. 😄 I particularly liked your response about fire lighting.
Super great video" do you bring a side arm, like the Mrs. ? I am looking forward to when you 2 head to Alaska . You 2 are awesome bush peep's ! LOL Rock on...
Thanks Rudy! In Michigan I don't carry a firearm, in Alaska....different story. I'm 6'2" and about 245 so I don't worry about running into trouble from people like you would if you were a 125lb girl.
Dave, I've been having big problems with PMs not going through (and apparently in a month they will be gone for good anyway) If-- and at the risk of being annoyingly redundant--you didn't get my prior PMs, I just wanted to let you know that I put up my 8 Question video a while back. I also decided to do a 3 books video that you might want to check out as well. As it pertains to the 8 question vid, I'm quite embarrassed at how much of a rip-off the first few minutes turned out to look like. I chopped all that out, until I realized that the video need some sort of opening, so I put it back in. I hope that the state birds up in AK aren't too bad this time of the year!
Hey MCO. I "may " or "may not" have gotten your message....I don't know ...I'm totally off grid right now AND swamped with work...so I am soon far behind I don't know what to do. I haven't even had time to edit my Alaska road trip video. I'll try to pop over and check your video out soon....and check my messages. LOL
Bushradical That's a-ok.....your situation is pretty much exactly as I imagined it! Trying to edit videos in a wall tent or off-grid cabin sounds, well, "interesting" ;) Shoot, I have a brand new (much more powerful) laptop, new editing software, and a backlog of video footage from over a month ago waiting for me to get to....
Nice video. I laughed about the lighter. Me too. When Im at home making a back yard fire I may use a feral rod just for the practice. Camping...give me a dam lighter, I dont have time to play around. Lol
Bushradical OMG...WOW. I found you just trolling and see both you and your wife are Alone celeberties. I got rid of cable TV couple years back but just watched that last episode of season 4 on youtube. Now I gotta find the whole season. I wouda died 2 weeks in. Lol. And you built a house. Totally awesum. Well you got me, Ill be watching your stuff. Thank you.
Glad I subscribed to you. You seem to be a down to earth person. Not trying to sell me the latest greatest piece of equipment. Looks like you need a headlamp. I keep a first aid kit in my truck just in case.
I gotta laugh ... I bring up my Subscriptions page and see you and Brooke both released a video the same day, a few hours apart. Then you tell us you don't like camping alone in this video, while Brooke's video is about how she likes camping alone. :)
Bushradical I enjoy spending time with you (and your wonderful wife-She loves you man, so don’t screw it up) I was once a real outdoorsman/adventurer. Right now i am unable to adventure because i’ve been quite ill. I believe i’m going to get better and get back out there soon. Anyway, your channel is a delight for me while I’m on the disabled list. God bless you,, man.😊 ps I’ve done a lot of solo camping backpacking. It brings peace to my overstimulated brain. I’ve also gone on many 10day silent meditation retreats to deepen my tranquility. You might try it sometime if you’re not afraid of keeping your own company Being outside is calming even to my baby and toddler grandchildren. Whenever babies and kids get upset and cry/tantrum, I pick them up and take them outside. They immediately calm down. Never underestimate the joy you can bring to other folks just being yourself. You are clearly a well-fathered man. I missed that in my life, so i get vicarious “fathering” thru your dad’s influence on you. If you ever venture East, you’re welcome to camp on our land here in New Hope, PA (on delaware river soutth of Delaware Water Gap where the AT crosses over from PA to NJ. So are any of your friends and subscribers. Believe it or not, most thru hikers agree that New Jersey had the most scenic views and campsites closeby the scenic spots. (I agree but White Mountains and NE Tenn are also spectacular.) Sorry for running on, but that’s what happens when you respond to an old man with way, way too much free time. :)
Great Vid and nice perspectives and answers. You got me thinking though how you said that’s a story for another video I’d love to her you and Brooke do story time vids like Jeff at CutleryLover does her on UA-cam. Y’all are down to earth and make things nice and easy cut and dry on you philosophies on the things you discuss on the channel and share such great knowledge like the white fire retardant tarp y’all took on alone id never thought of that even though I use a white cone on my flashlight to diffuse light just like the tarp lol plus y’all have such great personalities it would entertaining and educational lol Btw Brooke said in here previous vid on Facebook he 25,000 subs your getting ready to for the road trip to Alaska I hope it goes well and there’s no problems like last time with the head gasket I believe it was? Have a blessed Day Anthony ✝️✌️❤️😊
A lighter to start a fire? YES!!!!! I laugh at all these macho "Survivalist" who look down on a lighter. My philosophy of "Survival situations" is the best way to survive one, is not to get into one! USE COMMON SENSE! Sure know how to start a fire a few different ways but don't slam the lighter! I fell for the "buy the best gear; it will last forever" lie. "The more you know, the less you carry" is true... a lighter is a great primary fire starter. Don't get me started on "Bugging out."
This looks a lot like Oscoda National Forest near Grayling, Luzerne and Mio area! Doesn't look like Hiawatha National Forest around St. Ignance though?
hey BACA, by all means, feel free to answer the questions and post a video. Its a fun exercise to see what everyone comes up with. Thanks for the comment.
you know what, i just might do that. Mix up my content a bit. As you would know, creating new content can be a challenge in itself at times! take it easy mate
Best dam outdoor information channel on you Tube, Haven't missed one video of your yet, keepm commin
Wow. Thanks RB. Thats high compliment coming from you. I'm honored.

A pair of dry socks is a Must! Put a pair or two in a ziploc bag inside your backpack. Keeping your feet dry is essential along with a lighter & TP.

I always enjoy your style of teaching. I really like "Cheap Wheels" as well!
Dang Dave, that was awesome! Somehow I understand your philosophy and I always learn something. Thanks

In USMC trying I received my skills then stated watching shows like yours no# 4, I think
, I don't hunt anymore don't like killing anymore
I very much appreciate your service to our country Reggie....may God richly bless you and all others who have served!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks . People Smelt all over Lake Superior
Thank you bro. Those questions I think I'll pass them on to my Facebook page and ask my audience what
they would do and what they would use. Thank you, Dave.
Great video Dave and good answers. Other than the best camp question I'd have to say your answers were pretty solid, well thought out and informative. Thanks for sharing
Thanks Murphy!
Bushradical Thank your stars you had such a rare father.
Thanks
Yes I did hear the coyotes. Just about the time you said something about them. Another great informative video. Thanks for your answers. I really enjoy watching your channel. It reminds me about the times I used to go camping and fishing a lot. Not near as primitive as yours. Thanks
Thanks Joyce!
No# 2. It depends on my mood, alone if I need to reflect
right on
Some brilliant answers to my 8 questions Dave, especially questions 4,5,6 & 7. It is awesome seeing how others answer these questions and just how many have done VR's I look forward to Brooke's VR. Atb Carlos
Thanks Carlos. I had a fun answering the questions.
I don’t camp, fish, hunt or tinker, don’t own a knife or even a lighter but I really enjoy these videos.
thanks
Thanks. I appreciate the skill involved in making primitive fire, which is what motivates me to always carry a lighter...
Very good explanations. Thanks for taking the time. Take care, Al
Thanks Al.
Good video... fun.... I always enjoy your YAK. be safe and keep up. best...
Thanks for vocally tagging your wife and spending time with her.
Howdy David
Thanks for taking part in the tag...great answers, loved the coyotes,...i always...ALWAYS, carry a bic lighter and i always recommend others do so as well.
Also thanks for the good mention amigo...i agree that having an aptitude towards solving problems in general, can play a large part in ones ability to deal with the possible stresses and challenges encountered in a wilderness environment.
Well done and thanks again...stay radical my friend...woods
Thanks Woods! I was honored to be tagged, and happy to answer the questions.
Yup, camping is better with other folks. I'm going camping for the weekend , dipping suckers in the U.P.
Thanks for being honest. Like your channel.. been watching since you appeared on TV with your wife.
Thanks Steve.
Great vid Dave. I deer hunt in Lake County. I love it up there!!
I'm just a stones throw from lake county......literally its across the road. My place is ON the county line.
Thanks
You go in to be in Alaska this summer.?
I'm limping my 98' Ford escort up the highway in a week! I feel the same way about the whole thing. When I use the word "Bushcraft" I do so, so that people will know what context I'm speaking in.......but i personally don't use the word much outside of youtube.
When people talk about the "proper way" to perform a "bushcraft skill" I just want to laugh.
Bushradical I maybe be heading up at the end of June, but I'll be West of Bethal on the coast. Not sure if your be around Anchorage first part of July when I'll be passing through back state side.
I'm north of Fairbanks about 20 miles.
Dave, my best camp sites are the ones with the most fish.🌲🌲🌲
Great answers! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Jeff!
Most my friends would rather stay at home than backpack or camp, so I find myself forced to do solo camping if I want to go at all...
its better than not going.
@@Bushradical Heck yeah.
I can't wait to see what they have to say!
Thanks Axelbrode.
Good idea. I have old friends in Alaska that traped and they have mentioned carrying a can of naphtha.
great video. those are good questions and as always im curious how others folks do things. thought it was interesting what ya said about camping being a social activity. i mostly camp alone for the last 15 years. seems like nobody has time for it or if they do they prefer a busy public campground and i just cant stomach that. im taking a break from the internet for a few months so ill catch up with you and girl in the woods on down the road. hope yall have a great summer. take care
Thanks Timberdrifter! Hope you have a great summer. I do like camping alone to an extent, but I really like to talk and visit, so I usually have a better time with friends. I went out for an overnight last week with my brother. we had a great time.
Thanks for sharing. Glad you were tagged, it was nice to hear a litle more about you.
It was super fun to answer the questions.
Thats Awesome!
(3) Right now it is Mora knife, and Swiss Champ knife, when I was younger I loved the bowie type.
Lmao when I was young I thought a bowie knife, some cards of matches, and a hatchet made me Lord of the wilderness but soon learned that wasn't true.
(4) I favor matches even though I possess the other ways of fire lighting matches are old fashioned.
Nice to see someone not naming a knife as the most important kit, I think a source of fire is most important too. Subscribed all the way from Scotland 🏴
Scotland! Thats awesome. I'd like to visit your part of the world sometime.....Denmark and Ireland too. Thanks for the sub.
Thanks SW!
You have a great channel Dave. Enjoy all your videos.
Thanks, Dave I thought I was going mental there for a minute.
I must be doing something right then. Thanks Allen
Sho nuff bro. Love your videos. Stay RADICAL just as you are. EHHH. LOL
Like your calmness
Always great content Dave, but, I have a question. What's your thoughts on Sasquatch? ;-) J/K
...........thats a story for another time
lol'' yea !
@@Bushradical How about that story? It's been 3 years.
Hey there Dave that is a really good segment - thks for your time & info ya shared there - good job on those questions ; ya got bub - covered many skills - being real is everything - thkx for sharing your time & info > you rock it Dave - take care & have a blessed day - spot on bud ; chow for now - kirk out for now
Thanks Kirk!
Enjoyed the video Dave. I sure hope it didn't take you 12 hours to find your way out of the spot you were in when it got dark on you. 😄 I particularly liked your response about fire lighting.
Thanks Myn6211! It was a lot of fun.....I was thinking when I walked out how I should have carried a headlamp!
Super great video" do you bring a side arm, like the Mrs. ?
I am looking forward to when you 2 head to Alaska .
You 2 are awesome bush peep's ! LOL
Rock on...
Thanks Rudy! In Michigan I don't carry a firearm, in Alaska....different story. I'm 6'2" and about 245 so I don't worry about running into trouble from people like you would if you were a 125lb girl.
What about your Condor on Alone season 4? Or is this from before that?
These are great questions
And your answers seemed real and gives us a little more insight on you enjoyed the video and your channel very much 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks.
Nice video. I laughed about the lighter. Me too. When Im at home making a back yard fire I may use a feral rod just for the practice. Camping...give me a dam lighter, I dont have time to play around. Lol
Absolutely.
Thank you.
Thanks Gre Gory! Glad you like the channel!!! By the way, my middle name is Gregory.
most important piece of gear i think is health
Glad I subscribed to you. You seem to be a down to earth person. Not trying to sell me the latest greatest piece of equipment.
Looks like you need a headlamp.
I keep a first aid kit in my truck just in case.
I was thinking....as I filmed this....." I should have brought a headlamp". Glad you enjoy the channel !
I’d love to hear the story of that canoe flip.
My favorite knife ...is a sharp one🙂
Thank you for your questions, God bless
Thanks
I gotta laugh ... I bring up my Subscriptions page and see you and Brooke both released a video the same day, a few hours apart. Then you tell us you don't like camping alone in this video, while Brooke's video is about how she likes camping alone. :)
I do like camping alone, but I get bored by myself.
Great video, Dave! I'm not a fan of rules either! Lol
Nice.
Thanks
Bushradical I enjoy spending time with you (and your wonderful wife-She loves you man, so don’t screw it up)
I was once a real outdoorsman/adventurer. Right now i am unable to adventure because i’ve been quite ill. I believe i’m going to get better and get back out there soon. Anyway, your channel is a delight for me while I’m on the disabled list. God bless you,, man.😊
ps I’ve done a lot of solo camping backpacking. It brings peace to my overstimulated brain. I’ve also gone on many 10day silent meditation retreats to deepen my tranquility. You might try it sometime if you’re not afraid of keeping your own company
Being outside is calming even to my baby and toddler grandchildren.
If you ever venture East, you’re welcome to camp on our land here in New Hope, PA (on delaware river soutth of Delaware Water Gap where the

Believe it or not, most thru hikers agree that New Jersey had the most scenic views and campsites closeby the scenic spots. (I agree but White Mountains and NE Tenn are also spectacular.)

I could have used a flashlight. LOL
Great Q & A. Thanks
Thanks !
Great Vid and nice perspectives and answers. You got me thinking though how you said that’s a story for another video I’d love to her you and Brooke do story time vids like Jeff at CutleryLover does her on UA-cam. Y’all are down to earth and make things nice and easy cut and dry on you philosophies on the things you discuss on the channel and share such great knowledge like the white fire retardant tarp y’all took on alone id never thought of that even though I use a white cone on my flashlight to diffuse light just like the tarp lol plus y’all have such great personalities it would entertaining and educational lol
Btw Brooke said in here previous vid on Facebook he 25,000 subs your getting ready to for the road trip to Alaska I hope it goes well and there’s no problems like last time with the head gasket I believe it was?
Have a blessed Day

A lighter to start a fire? YES!!!!! I laugh at all these macho "Survivalist" who look down on a lighter. My philosophy of "Survival situations" is the best way to survive one, is not to get into one! USE COMMON SENSE! Sure know how to start a fire a few different ways but don't slam the lighter! I fell for the "buy the best gear; it will last forever" lie. "The more you know, the less you carry" is true... a lighter is a great primary fire starter. Don't get me started on "Bugging out."
LOL, thanks !
